Love the drone shots! Since you've done a few of these, what are some of the keys or advice you have for a successful orienteering day? I imagine a good sense of direction... and I suck at reading maps, LOL!
@Lame_Duck7 күн бұрын
Pro Tip: If you have just started with orienteering (like myself) don't go for the difficult course (like i usually do 😓). Pro Tip 2: Straight line between 2 checkpoints isn´t allways the best route. On every race i get wet feet in some swampy field 🙄because i didn't pay attention to some details on the map...

Thanks for watching, my most loyal fan boy ! 🤪😜 Two years ago, for the first edition of this race the soldiers spend their hard earned money for trail running shoes, but then the general ordered them run the race wearing their boots and Uniform trousers. 😶

Great demonstration of upper strength! I would tank on this challenge 😆 So many guys in army uniforms too!
@Lame_DuckАй бұрын
I did tank in the quarry. From there on i had to drag myself towards the finish line. I even missed a turn (while filming) and did run some extra KM to make matters worse 😖. The army takes part in organazing the event so they brought some soldiers for the race. Since they had to wear their uniform trousers i decided to wear BDU trousers (maybe next year i dig up the uniform from my army days some 20 years ago)

What is that cow doing in the woods? Is there a farm nearby?😃 I love watching these orienteering footages. Could you provide some narration or text explanation to enhance our experience? 😉
@Lame_DuckАй бұрын
The cow was minding its business. It was me intruding on its pasture (2 checkpoints), had to jump the fence to get in and out. If you care how bad things went (which the video doesn't show) www.livelox.com/Viewer/TSCHOGGLBERG-CUP-6-/Nero-M?classId=831198&tab=player Here you can see the map and the GPS-Data of some runners. It shows clearly the difference between people who know what theiy are doing (the other runners) and people who are not so sure about what they are doing (myself 😓). Speed it up 50x or so ! I wasted some time around checkpoint 1: "There is people around lets get some footage for the video". Checkpoints 2 & 3 no problem, and then messed it up on my way to 4, by taking the wrong bearing an ending up on the wrong hill. But i was 100% sure of being on the right hill so i ran around for ages looking for the marker that was somewhere else. There was a moment of self doubt with the idea of giving up, but eventually i found 4. Checkpoint 5 no problem, got wet feet because i had to run through the swamp 🙄, found 6 & 7 easier than expected. On my way to Checkpoint 8 I encountered the cow 🐮, 9 was nearby, 10 was also found quickly. Checkpoint 11 was some minor inconvenience. But then I messed it all up again because i had some trouble concentrating ( lameduck.exe stopped working and left the chat 😶) and eventually found 12. Then i decided to take a straight line by crossing the stream through a steep ravine, but trampled gras revealed that others had chosen that route as well. Good progress on the asphalt road to checkpoint 13 and then another drama while looking for next point. 15 and 16 found quickly and on to the finish where the organizers already had packed up (Whoopsee 😅). Lesson learned the hard way: I sometimes suck at taking the right bearing.
