I know this video is about 3 years old, but you might check out the 3d printed korry buttons that are going around. They're available in a lot of different places, but if you have a 3D printer and some basic shape modeling ability - they're not hard to make on your own. They use two different LED's. The best replication of a korry switch 'click' feel are the keyboard-style tactile switches. With all that, they'll use three pins of your Arduino, but a Mega can handle quite a bit. Mobiflight makes it easy to program the LEDs as two individual outputs. The time consuming part is figuring out which output to program it to. Also; I use the buttons you have in your video, too. They have rectangular shaped ones that make EXCELLENT Master Caution/Master Warning switches. With the addition of a backing layer, they can sit nicely flush. Also available for them are the clear safety flip-up button shields to keep them from accidentally being pressed.
@QosmokidАй бұрын
Hello, thanks for your comment. I have not seen the 3D printed buttons you are referring to but I will look them up. Since I do not have a 3D printer, all of the videos are about using readily available off the shelf components. So my videos are not really about making a realistic cockpit, but rather teaching how to connect them to the Arduino and configure their functions with SimVimX. The few 3D printed parts that I have looked for always seem to be ridiculously expensive though. I'm sure some day I will get a 3D printer and try to make my own, but for now I'm just teaching the basics of using SimVimX. I have looked into MobiFlight but it just seems to much more complicated to configure assignments.

Thank you Carlos, this one actually came out pretty good. Although I could've been a little more careful when cutting the holes so the wood would not split. I should've also taken a little more time on the painting. I do plan to make videos on using servos and maybe even stepper motors to make gauges. I'm not sure If I'll actually make a pressurization panel though. I normally try to show the basics needed so everyone can then build their setups. One of the things that I haven't figured out how to make is gauges that have multiple needles in the gauge. I know it requires gears and concentric shafts so that's a little complicated. There are a lot of people who have sent me pictures of their home cockpits and all of them are very realistic compared to what I build 😂

It was really cool! My home cockpit is simple, 99 cm wide. Before, Virtual Avionics EFIS and MCPM worked, but now they don't. MIP works with SIOC input and output languages and servo motor for flaps. I tried to create a pressurization panel that would show the cruise and landing altitude on the display, but I couldn't. It seems to be a simulator disease. kkk!

The reason why the displays flicker is because they have latches and any glitch causes them to latch data which isn't there. This is one reason why I asked Vlad to refresh the displays in case the display lines do something they're not supposed to, like when I forget to turn on the external power supply. Vlad only refreshes to displays when data changes and even then, the displays could go into sleep mode and I would have to reload the data.

@efrenkov3 ай бұрын

Just a comment about something that had me baffled for weeks about DM13As til I figured it out. The wiring illustration on the SimVim website isn't entirely clear with regards to how the pins are identified. The 24 pins on the IC chip itself are pretty straightforward - BUT there's a second set of numbers that apply to the LEDs. Yes, they're shown on the illustration but it's not exactly explained that the fifth pin down isn't really pin 5, it's LED pin 0. My LED was connected to the fifth pin so I naturally assigned it to Pin 5 - but of course it never worked. I reassigned it to pin 0 and bingo! I may be the only dummy who got tripped up on this but if your LEDs don't work, this could be why.
@Qosmokid3 ай бұрын
@larryspotts3266 Hmm actually the diagram does show LED 0, LED 7 on the left and LED 8, LED15 on the right, but you are right there is no explanation or correlation between actual IC pin numbers and LED positions. Hello Phil, wow all this time we've been in contact and I never knew you were an engineer. Thank you for the nice comments. As far as my cockpit, I really haven't done much with it in the last few years. Pretty much what I showed in my "Evolution of my home cockpit" video is what I have now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXeYq32Ld9KJja8si=SY3Eww2tOE7PQa_W&t=656 I have been thinking of starting an overhead panel and/or stating to use SimVim Panels but I just wish I had more space to build.
@philnelson23644 ай бұрын
@@Qosmokid Well, building your own simvim panels takes time but if you use a dremel tool and other tools, you can make your own panels. This way, you can make them the size you want to fit. The comm panels you have are rather large and if you saw my latest video, you'd notice how it all fits together (of course, I use 3D printing - Cutting out panels takes time and I don't have the patience.) I was thinking of getting a CNC machine (about 200 to 300 dollars now) to cut out my own panels which would look better than the ones I printed and are more precise than 3D prints (you don't know how many tries I went through to adjust the various cutouts for each panel.) Also, although Vlad doesn't recommend anything but direct soldering, the best solution I found are the JST connectors that you find in various devices. You can disconnect and reconnect them many times without failure. I bought bags of 100 of different pins (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 pins types both female and male) for about $5.00 per bag of 100. The male pins are directly soldered to the pc board and the females use connectors that you can either crimp with the right tool or, as someone on youtube said - solder the wire directly to the connectors. As for space for the sim, I have the same problem. I live in an appartment built in 1947 for the returning soldiers from WW2 so the appartments are small. I could take over my wife's work room but then, there would be hell to pay. As for designing boards for various parts like 7 seg displays, switches etc, I already did this for encoders, small push buttons with LED displays and even a board for a dual-axis stepper motor (which I might use to design an working altimeter some day) I enjoy designing pc boards and 3D printed parts so if anyone has a need for something, let me know. As far as taking time off, I did take a year off in order to figure a few things out so it's a normal thing. Currently, I am thinking of getting a curved 42" screen for my main display so that the side windows (screens) are closer to it than they are now. When I get my taxes back next year. The other thing I need to do is build the cockpit itself instead of using an old TV stand but, building takes time and I don't have the patience. Maybe one day before I pass on into the great beyond although at 70 years old, I have less time than I did 20 years ago. I wish I had all this technology then.
@Qosmokid3 ай бұрын
@@philnelson2364 Wow a lot of nice ideas here. I still have the PCBs you sent me a while ago but I haven't made use of the JST connectors. Now that I'm working on the 7-segment display videos I got inspired to do a more realistic MCP panel than what I currently have. I actually got sidetracked by that so I need to complete the videos on the TM1637 & MAX7219. You'll see my mediocre cutting skills when I post the video on my MCP panel. I had no idea CNC machines were down to a couple of hundred dollars. Last time I checked (many many years ago) I could've sworn they were in the thousands of dollars. Maybe I should look into getting one myself. I've also been looking at a 3D printer too but I probably won't buy either one of those until I live somewhere else :(
