Swearing at the ref is disrespectful. Without respect the ref is ineffective, can't exercise authority. Football (soccer) players get away with it, it's less gentlemanly, a lot of pissy little overpaid primadonnas (I am a footie fan, but I'm under no illusions). Rugby, is considered more honourable in it's code.
