We rented a house in Darwen in 2007.. It was the wettest Summer since the ice age, and me being from Wharfedale (on the East side), it was depressing. After 10 months, I said to her indoors (who is a yank), "do you want to stay here this winter, or go live in Florida" ... She thought about it for around 1 nanosecond, and we went to Florida.. Then in Spring, moved 3,200 miles to extreme right wing Wenatchee in Washington State. Then, after 4 years, we put the cats in the back and drove to here in Wisconsin. Next week we are visiting Yorkshire for the fish and chips. I got some from a Chinese place in Darwen and they were done in old Chinese burned fat... Absolutely honkable and I threw them out of the car window. So extradite me .... laugh out loud..

Nice, I can’t say I blame you! We live in Blackburn but like to travel a lot, and have visited the US many times, never been to Wisconsin though! Hope you get some decent fish and chips this time (Haddock is my favourite)!

@@Robbo8ball Yes haddock is the way to go... leave the Cod to Southerners... We used to walk up to Darwen Tower and then to the pub about a mile further across the fields.. "Royal Arms".... Benches outside. I was trying to teach her East Lancashire dialect and she heard a mother say to her kid 'Will you not squeal"..she still thinks that is funny.. My first wife's family were from Barlick, so I am bilingual. Do you not think so ?

@SunofYork Been up Darwen tower many times, you think you got it done then realise there’s another few flights of stairs to go up! Not sure about the pub, I used to do most of my drinking in Accrington having lived in a pub over in Clayton le moors as a teenager. My wife is originally from the Philippines and has picked up a bit of an East lancs accent having been here nearly 15 years, her sisters tease her about her accent!

@@Robbo8ball I like East Lancs and Brum and Northern Ireland... Don't like Scottish accents or Scouse although I was addicted to Rab Nesbitt and understand Glasgow. A Summer in Inverary on the dole helped with that.

Hmmm it’s definitely an acquired taste, I think my brain was buffering it couldn’t believe what I’ve put in my mouth! I think the smell reminds me of stink bombs we used to have as a kid, but also sweet and creamy. I might try it again and see if I can get used to it!

Hello, Fleming Square car park is pay and display that is probably the most central, also the mall has a multi storey car park which you take a token on entry, then pay at a machine before leaving, both are reasonably priced. Good luck 👍
