Thanks for sharing your story, it was an interesting and fun listen/watch. The video itself was extremely impressive considering you haven't done any video essays before! Felt really polished. I'm not 100% sure, can't honestly remember, but I think I might be a follower since the Saxxies? Or maybe stumbled upon that stuff a bit later and subbed, I really enjoyed gmod and SFM videos. Your story is relatable - I always wanted to do something with games or videos or stories, or something. Felt the tug of gamedev as well, and even by pure, absurd luck, worked as something like a writer for a game. My creative outlet has been running ttrpgs for my friends, and man, do I get a kick out of doing that. Also, absolute mad respect for actually getting a game out there - that's so damn much work! Tried (and am still trying) to learn the ropes of actually making a game, and it's rough road.
@Daucus4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching & welcome back! TTRPG is great as long as you're feeding your creative soul! What game did you write for? Also, it really helps having someone else to keep you accountable in game dev if you're doing it as a passion project. Game jams can be a really great way to meet people if you feel like you're struggling sticking with it or find the technical bits not interesting enough to learn.
@TheOwlslayer4 ай бұрын
@@Daucus The game was called Project Nebula, it was a crypto game (so ya know, that's a whole can of worms). I've got my thoughts about that topic, but nevertheless was super-grateful for the opportunity and experience I got there. I've been keeping an eye on a handful of game jams over the years, but never did take the plunge. I suppose I get a bit demotivated whenever I see the absurdly amazing things people create in a handful of days, especially when compared to what I manage to scrape together using tutorials and 10x the time! Though I know that such an attitude won't bring me far.

If you don't mind me saying: you don't know how good this video is. Having known... the history... i would've never gave you a high enough judgement of character, to even fathom that you could make something like this ever at all. Certainly not first thing 8 years later. It's as good as if the first SFM you ever made was The Gambler. Those 8 years have been beyond productive. You could say in those 8 years you didn't just make a ton of right decisions, but somehow also validated all of the questionable ones you made before. If life was an equation and our choices were the variables - i'd comfortably assert that you solved near all of yours. You never know the true value of a decision, until you see where it fully leads you. Until the final payoff. Until you cash it in. Until you make it pay off. Done right. With proper steering you can land your life into net positive. Truly. You convinced me. This is a really special thing that happened here just now. A real big moment. A huge tiny moment for the internet randoes certainly. I hope there are enough of them here in the know to appreciate the journey. Because you, sir, deserve some hooras. Man. I can't say anything of substance here. Hell. Really, i'm sorry, but the words are just not enough. This is special alright. This is one of those internet fine vine moments: where you only know it's value - if you are aware of the journey it took. God damn, big H. God damn.

What a heartwarming comment. There's certainly a lot of history in this video and I really only feel like I touched on half of everything that actually happened but I feel that I landed on a good runtime for each segment without losing the core of the story. A lot happened in game dev as well as personal friendships/community that really changed who I am at my core. I'm extremely happy that what I was trying to do/say with all of this has been coming across clearly to people as well. Thank you for sparing your valuable time to watch! <3

to be honest I don't remember subscribing this channel at all but I recognized some of your sfm/cs content so I guess thats why I subscribed for. Anyways this is probably not the kind of video I expected from here ever but I really really love the message and I really liked the style. You made me laugh a lot and I was schocked when I watched the video til the end and realized it was over an hour long when it really didn't even feel like half of that. So I guess thank you for coming back. I'm all in for this!!!
@Daucus5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! I was really worried about the second half of the video dragging on and was very adamant about trimming/cutting the fluff out and I'm relieved to hear that it was successful in that regard <3
@Al-cm8ny5 ай бұрын
quite insightful, alot happened from your first sfm to the second one alone, damn! like a year or two you had so much change, its quite inspirational. Ya googling stuff, everything is right there, i think its a mix of perfectionism and overwheleming choices that prevents some ppl from googling, i myself had/have this issue and am still trying to overcome it
@Daucus5 ай бұрын
It's hard to let go but if you can reframe acceptance only coming from yourself and embrace learning from failure you will come to realize that if anything was perfect life would be so boring. As for the overwhelming choices I believe it's extremely important to give yourself the opportunities to explore! Follow what feels right in the moment and don't stress the outcomes. It's also never too late <3
