Welcome to the four years where we will add trillions more to the national debt and the very rich will get richer.

We are in our 50s with nearly $3M saved, no debt and $50K annual spending. But we avoid the stock market completely.

I’m retired. Your story of a conservative savings profile is a common one. Any course of action involves risks. You might be avoiding market risk, but you are taking on other risks like inflation and reinvestment risk.

My hisband is willing to work for another 5 years if needed. Are we in good shape? Will we be okay if I begin withdrawing from Social Security when I’m 62 and my husband is 67? Should we hire a financial planner to help us navigate this?

No one likes market risk, but without longer retirement, taking on risk is often a necessary evil to compensate for inflation.

Certainly get a pro to look at your predicament (if you even have one, lol) A second opinion from a comprehensive financial adviser can help you look at more than just your current estimate of cash flow and needs but also longevity risk, outliving your money, tax considerations, legacy planning, healthcare costs, inflation and a myriad of other things you may not be considering when reviewing your current situation

Why don't they just raise the cap? Why do the rich only pay on the first 120k or so and are tax free on all income above it. I pay on 100% of my income and I think everyone should pay on 100% of theirs as well regardless of income.

Many companies declare and pay bonuses on March 15, based on the prior year earnings. But, if you terminate prior to that March 15 payment date, you won't get that bonus. Something to think about.

Im 61 and I still do everything I was doing 10 years ago, or 20 years ago nothing has changed for me. It's cliché but it all starts with your thinking and acting your age. Don't think about not doing what you always did, and don't act your age. Until this body can no longer do things, nothing is going to change for me. Its all up to you....simple ❤🙏

When I earned tips, I never reported any on my taxes. People living on SS already pay little or no tax. Trump is only cutting taxes for the Wealthy Class and he's cutting Medicare and Social Security to do it. He still hasn't said where he's going to get the money to deport all the immigrants, build the border wall and jail all the Democrats. What new tariffs are going to generate that kind of revenue? How is this not going to cause a huge spike in inflation?

They got all these excuses not to pay. If you are American and live in America you should not be denied the peanuts they offer. In fact they should of invested your money and pay to compensate for these high prices. How you gonna pay taxes when you make peanuts or pay a student loan that was a scam? They need to lower the age to 60 and increase it to 300 percent.

I challenge my self mentally and physically every day. It’s essential to never retire and make your self useful to society. It is a good time to get a foreign bank account in a reliable currency. The day they pass tariffs against China, watch the stock market collapse. Second, China will dump it's T-Bills and the bond market will crash. I am afraid Mr. Schmidt is like so much of America, who thinks that authoritarian regimes follow rules and laws, and are controlled by legislatures. The GOP is very specific they intend to tear down the USG...good luck for those dependent on Social Security and Medicare.

My Wife & Son are coming back from Ho Chi Minh City next Monday early because the air pollution is gotten so bad over the years or we would be staying there 6 months out of the year. Sadly even in the mountains of Da lat, where we lived years ago, and the beach in Da Nang have terrible air pollution most of the time. PS, We're actually heading for Mendoza in December to see if that's our new spot 😊

This is a really helpful video! I’ve been thinking about retirement for a while now, and the timing is such an important factor. I’m curious, how do factors like taxes and the cost of living affect the decision on when to retire? Do those things change depending on the month or season? Would love to get more insight into that! Thanks for sharing this!

The cloture rule is what requires 60% ... it has been used as a type of fillibuster inappropriately. The cloture rule is to say that the issue has been adequately heard and debate should be cloded . Im past years senstors opposed to a bill would approve cloture and allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote. Therin if a senator wanted to fillibuster then they could by controlling the floor before the vote was taken.

My pension was adjusted up about $4,500/year just before I retired due to changes in the retirement plan. I also had a window of about three months before the subsidized health care from the pension would have cost me $1,700/year more. So I retired in that narrow window, somewhat due to planning and somewhat due to luck.

I worked for a company that had a pension plan where the pension was accrued by fiscal quarters. I had to work until the 15th day of the last month to get credit for that quarter. The plan also had a cost of living adjustment that kicked in on November 1 after you had been retired for a full year. As a result I retired in late September to get the full quarter credit and that was before November 1 so I would be eligible for the COLA the following November. I should mention late September-October is great vacationing time in the southwestern USA; all the crowds are gone and the weather is great. 😎

My day is in January. I realized this month while signing up for healthcare that 1. The company makes an HSA contribution in the first week of February and 2. I have 8 weeks of vacation saved up. If I had planned for terminal vacation (I had but my projects are extended) then the company would pay for two more months of medical insurance and 401k contributions. I’m leaving money on the table.

When I used to live in apartments, renting, when things went wrong like a plumbing back up or a leaking ceiling, it would take forever to get the landlord to send someone to remedy the situation. I'd rather own a house and be able to call a plumber or other professional and pay them to come in a timely manner. Maybe expensive apartments don't have this problem, but I still can't afford a luxury apartment. I own and am 100% debt free with a $450,000 house. If I had rented my whole life, especially luxury, I'd not have a penny of that equity. The question for me now as a retiree is how long my health holds out so that I have the energy and brain power to deal with maintenance and other decisions. If I invested the proceeds of the sale of my house and took 4% of the earnings, it would only be enough to rent a crappy apartment like when I was young, so it's better to stay in my house.

Hey, thanks for the video but yeah, I’m 62 but I am a Wallcovering contractor so I’m up on ladders and scaffolding all the time. I plan to retire is at 67 God willing. The one thing I do is I try to stay in as good as shape as possible , I do some weight training and cardio and I am literally the same way I was in high school I mean, what are you gonna do you never know when something can go wrong, but I’m trying to keep myself in some kind of good physical shape.
