What I am trying to find is one that will show my speed at multiple points on a map I can view on Google earth or other freely available apps. This would be to either help me fight a speeding ticket or prove I was not speeding if an accident happens (people do lie sometimes). As for the ones not looking where they are going who might falsely claim the other one was speeding, it would be fun to see the look on their faces when their lies are instantly obliterated by this evidence. There are two kinds of people who would do that, the ones who just don't care and the ones who commit fraud. I know a dash camera with GPS would also record the speed and make it mappable but it would be nice to have a similar copy of the same data on a different device to make it harder for someone to claim the data was fake somehow (some people think everything is fake :eyesrolling)

Honestly that's pretty squarely in the dashcam wheelhouse. There are some that will let you back up to cloud or phone via app either manually or on an event trigger. There are some lap timing or driving apps that allow open logging but I suspect that might get storage-intense on a phone if there isn't an auto-overwrite or limit.

So funny story, there are two different styles of those, one has a really light bypass spring, and one with a pretty normal bypass spring. I'd used those for years and only discovered the discrepancy after filming this. IIRC same, large-ish filtration area, so all good there, but might bypass more than intended when super cold.

$25 rotors? Really? For track? That’s dirt cheap. I almost wonder if you meant $250
@LapoftheWorldАй бұрын
@@shawnb50 Nope. Going rate on Rock Auto (no affiliation) is $25-30/rotor. Any rotor at the stock size is going to heat cycle into cracking fairly quickly with intense use (small heat sinks), so spending more doesn't make sense unless it buys notably longer life.
@shawnb50Ай бұрын
@ @ I have a 370z with sport package or nismo brakes. Would these rotors be and brakes be comparable in price to your next to get stock fitment. I was looking at getting slotted 2 piece set for $1000 that are normally $1650. I was considering them because you save a total of 30lbs and oem brakes are more money anyways so why not get ones with better performance, but $100 for a full set is crazy. I feel disgusted with how much I spent on new rotors at brake check on my last car. They said they are oem but I wonder if that really meant they fit like oem and we mark it up a bunch. Either way after that waste of money I will now be installing my own, along with all the other services I feel I got scammed on by the dealer on the last car
@shawnb50Ай бұрын
@@LapoftheWorld well I checked rock auto and there are a lot of cheap brakes there… so many options, I wouldn’t know what to pick. I just don’t understand how the price is so different. I know performance rotors will cost exponentially more because of diminishing returns per $ spent, but I don’t understand how a basic rotor can cost 10x-20x more at a dealer or a service shop. If you understand how the pricing works, I would really like to understand it. Are the cheap rotors much worse than stock.
@LapoftheWorldАй бұрын
@@shawnb50 You should also check Summit Racing as they're sometimes nearly as cheap and may offer free shipping at times (which, with a stack of iron, helps). I think the only "fancy" I'd pay for in a brake rotor right now would be those that are directionally vented (the internal vanes) as that will legitimately impact rotor temps. Cross drill holes just propagate cracks faster as modern pads don't off-gas in a way that really necessitates them. Slots are at least not counter productive in that way. Otherwise it's REALLY hard to sift through all of the marketing wank to get to real data on how some specific metallurgy or surface treatment might help rotor life (cryo, WPC, etc). Anyway, definitely exercise your own judgement here, I'm not a professional, etc. Hopefully the info will help save a few bucks in the future.
@shawnb50Ай бұрын
@ thanks, I have learned about the drilled ones being worse, either way I prefer the look of the slotted more so win, win. I know people who really like the drilled look. I’ll look into the directional vents. I think the ones I’m looking at on Z1 (website for Nissan parts) are but I also am interested in the fact they save 30 lbs total. I’ll probably buy these for the experience but the cheep ones sound good for a situation when you wanna save a bunch of money. I know that big brakes are pointless because of the limited amount of grip on street tires. I mean I drove a stock brz with performance package Brembos which are not big brakes but the thing would lock up when you break so for a larger size car like a 370z I think the upgraded rotors and pads will be just enough to reach the grip limit. Plus big brake kits weigh even more.

The problem is the AEM still can't handle data through wirless ways You need a carp display they sell or cut the interior or whatever. Its simply sucks. How much easier it would be when you have a BT or Wifi module and forward the data to phone. So then you dont need to cut, or wire or anything. With Motec, Syvevs, haltech and other ECU you can do that no problem. So for me I consider the AEM infinity was the worst idea I made for my NSX. And AEM just tell you to buy their crap dash :facepalm: (I also tried maybe it can handle MeatPi to use that to forward data to realdash but of course can't.)
@LapoftheWorldАй бұрын
It's worth noting that I'm not running an AEM ECU, I went out of my way to avoid a stand-alone while gaining what we could with the rebuild. Getting the factory Acura/Honda ECU to play nicely with the AEM dash was something SOS had already figured out with getting and translating outputs. That said, wireless would be nice, but I don't have a pit crew and the storage is such that I can just pull logs after a whole weekend.

More people need data to communicate effectively with their tuner or trusted mechanic, whether pre or post-OBD II. (I’m 1999, so post-OBD). Thus, my spending “all the dollars” on the Sjöeberg-modded ID4Motion dash (thankfully on sale LOL). I noticed, in particular, the VERY WIDE range of coolant temp covered by the “1 tick below the center” on the stock cluster😳. I considered the AEM screen as you did, given I run an AEM Infinity ECU, and that’s an awesome option. Another great video!
@LapoftheWorldАй бұрын
Yeah, given the oil temps and seeing that I pushed a little coolant past the pressure cap during the event, I was thinking I'd just been blind to the gauge moving, but video evidence suggests otherwise. The logs put the ECT between like 175 and 205 without the needle moving. In light of the overlap with the oil cooling circuit, I think my advice on the stock temp gauge has gone from "a little above the middle is OK" to "if it moves above the middle at all, in any way, then back off immediately".
