The note names are utterly irrelevant to most folks lol

Finally! I've been searching for a greater explanation of this. I hear it so often in tunes I listen to and have wanted to learn the technique, but couldn't find anything on it until now

Keeping the bow straight and bending wrist is easy when playing scales. But As soon as I start playing a tune it derails.

I’ve never seen that approach before. I need more practice at identifying the notes by ear and at speed. Kevin is such a relaxed and humorous teacher, with a beautiful playing style. I always love seeing him play.

There’s a recording from 1979 of an Alabama lady in her 80s singing a folk song to this melody she learned as a child from her grandma. It’s fun. Search on KZbin Over the River to Charlie (Roud 729) - Eunice Yeatts McAlexander

I'm so glad there is a video on this topic. I live in a small town and had to start with a classical violin teacher. Now that I'm 2 years in I'm making the switch to fiddle! It's funny how scared I was to try double stops, I thought for sure it'd ruin the muscle memory of my normal angles.

Me ayudó mucho este video, me encanta el bluegrass y estas ornamentaciones me sirven para avanzar más rapida en mi trayectoria musical. Que pena que en España solo enseñen música clasica .

That was an excellent tutorial on playing double stops! I"ve been playing around with Sally Goodin' for a while and didn't know how to get started on the 4th finger drone.. As the Mandalorian would say "This is the way". Next I'd like to see a tutorial on vibrato. As for the Gardenia Waltz, if you find it frustrating, it'll be a while before it's on my list of tunes to play.

I'm just starting at 64 years old. This was my father's favorite tune. We went to a lot of contests around Texas when Uncles competed. When CD players came out in cars, I took my dad to an appt. At Brooke Army Medical Center, 45 minutes away. We listened to this all the way up and back. "Better play that one again" for an hour and a half. I'd do it again tomorrow if I could.

I'm really enjoying your lessons Hanneke! It is so wonderful you learn with Alasdair Fraser himself on Skye Island!! I say this because one reason I specifically look for Scottish tunes on this channel is that I love a '90s Album from him that I downloaded on MP3 many years ago! xD Life looks like a full circle sometimes...
