I have 1900 build Bluthner overdamper, and I keep it at A440. It also was at one time at A442, no problems. Although must be noted that I did complete restringing in 2017, so there wasn't fear of string breaking due old strings. Your piano seems to have old style iron frame, where iron frame doesn't extend over and above pin block, as it does with modern design, and also in my old Bluthner. That is very old design, and I don't know if that matters, when choosing the pitch. I have only tuned very few of such designs, and I think one was at A440. It's possible that your piano could take A440 pitch. Cautious approach would be doing gradual pitch raise, for example in three phases: 415 > 425 > 435 > 440.

Thank you so much for your very kind and helpfull input !!! As you might have noted, you're the first after ½ year since this video was made and I did my first scouting on this very old piano. Meanwhile it has held its tune very well, so I was hopefull to continue. With your very good advice not to rush from A4 @ 415Hz in one go to 440Hz, but via two extra steps in between I will surely give it a go!!! I had a look at your channel too and what beautifull music you make, for being self taught you're a pro in my eyes 🙂

@@Pianist203 oh that is even more wonderful, who would have guessed that? I'm using a laptop with "Dirks Piano Tuner" program on it and a proper microphone on a stand, to do my tuning. It is slow but really opens the possibility to tune your own piano as an amateur. Here at the French countryside (and I guess too in Finland?) it is very hard to find people that also have no problem with the distances and still be payeble. Now the winter has started, it is very cold in the unheated studio so I will wait untill spring to start tuning up!
@Pianist203
@Pianist203 28 күн бұрын
You're quite handy to tune overdamper piano as an amateur. I also started tuning as an amateur and I remember that as complete novice it was quite a task, and results weren't that great either. Too bad that you don't have a piano tech in your area. Maybe if there were several pianos in your area, travel costs would be divided and more resonable. You're right that conditions are not ideal right now if temperature and humidity is on lower side. Of course such big pitch raises are not going to be that stable anyway, so you could technically do those before spring, and leave more accurate tuning to spring time.
@Ernie-Tech
@Ernie-Tech 28 күн бұрын
@@Pianist203 Well because we're retired, we don't know many people in the neighbourhood that we just moved into 4 years ago, but that's okay. Nice and quiet. Apart from that I love a technical challenge. To do the tuning you on an overdamper it just takes patience and carefull handling. The trick with this KLEIN piano is that you need the push the string dampers during tuning in from a very weird angle going beyond the mechanism of the key right next to it. Once you've found this angle, works are not that difficult, only very slow compared to a modern piano. Meanwhile we're restoring our 200yo farm, and once my studio is insulated I can turn on the electric heater (carefully again!) to closely monitor temp/hum to rise to normal again. Thanks again for taking the effort to help, really really appreciated !! But weather in Finland must be far more extreem than southern France, how do you manage that with your pianos?

Still useful now in 2024; i have that engine in my boat a Sea Ray Seville 19 Cuddy Cabin, from 1986; you still have your van? good thing i can give it up to 160 hp, just by manually adjusting the load bolt in the back of the pump; and adjusting the pressure on the Turbo; have water cooled intercooler, and i need to watch the pyrometer (exhaust gas temp) not to go over 650ºC before the turbo; Anyway, great video, outstanding music, you already said where it is from, Game of Thrones, whatever that was; THANKS

This is so great to read your reaction Jose, thanks a lot! Is it indeed exactly the Sofim 8140.61 engine in your boat, cause I thought the turbo version was also a slightly heavier engine and so a different number?! Just being curious. My van is scapped cause shortly after my rebuild the gearbox fell apart, the carrosserie started rusting from within, tires were worn and we desperately needed a reliable long distance transport, so we bought another campervan. Too bad, but I learned from it 🙂 (never buy an Iveco again, cause spare parts are incredibly expensive). By the way; Game Of Thrones was a sensational television series, a bit like Lord Of The Rings style, I loved the music instantly, although the series became worse year after year. When are you gonna put a video of your boat on your channel? I'd be the first to watch, like, subscribe!!!

Hi there, the tires and inner tubes are commonly available searching for 5x12" tractor tires, but the rims I bought at www.microtracteurs-lebosse.com/produit?rech=jante Payed about 193€ for a set. Can advise to look closely to the exact extérieur sizes of the tires. More expensive ones can have far more rubber on them then the cheaper versions! I've been jamming into some tree trunks and other unforgiving objects while mowing rought terrain, and I'm surpised to see the new rimms really hold up very well! The whole tractor has become much more stable and, of course, less sensitive to steep pits and rocks. But keep your thumbs out of the inside of your steering, to avoid braking them! Must admit, I've given up on turning sharply with mower up, not in 4x4 drive but 2x4 drive, and then hitting the split brakes at one side. That puts a lot of stress on the rimms, and all for nothing in the end it seemed... Hope you're in Europe? US might be totally different story.

There is a growing move in the world of early Harley fuel injection to revert to carbs and even points ignition kits are available to replace the factory supplied ignition. The Guzzi would convert easily with earlier model parts or even some aftermarket mikuni kits. Great bike but made less enjoyable with poorly supported and newish technology.
@Ernie-Tech
@Ernie-Tech Жыл бұрын
I do agree that an ecu made things more or less out of reach for repairs by hobbyists, which is one of the reasons to have a bike; the fun of doing maintenance and little repairs yourself. The carbs are indeed easily put back, but the ignition I'm not too sure of assuming you'd go back to mechanical ignition. Especially the governor for more or less pre-ignition needs the original cast and then you're more or less back easier buying a good old 850T3. I do have to admit that since I'm driving this ecu-tech Guzzi, it starts very easily and runs stationairy as steady as a swiss clock. Something I'd never seen before, which pleases me most. But nowadays you need a laptop, usb-ecu adapter, software and knowledge of it all, not so common as it was before indeed!
@stephensaunders4668
@stephensaunders4668 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right about the mechanical ignition advance unit. A good electronic ignition with built in advance might be a halfway solution. Not completely free of electronic demon potential but better than a full-on ECU. Perhaps an older Cali 2 is in order. They looked great. I fixed one for a mate when one set of points had closed up. Took half an hour and then ran great. Nothing matter though so long as you are enjoying it.@@Ernie-Tech

Thanks a lot for posting this, Ernie! In my case, while the door is shut, no program has started yet, it keeps filling and emptying water forever. It seems that it is stuck in a loop. Resetting does not help.. ends-up in the same loop. Starting a program does not help either.. it does a wash cycle but does not heat up the water.. Could the water inlet valve be behind all of this?
@Ernie-Tech
@Ernie-Tech 2 жыл бұрын
yep, it looks like the water inlet valve spring is broken or the valve leaking (latter is most likely) or stuck. Replacing it, in general is not complicated, but for this machine (which I no longer posess) I can't tell you if it is difficult or not. Knowing Bosch spares are easy to get and repairs like this, depending on your skill level and tools, not too complicated. Before ordering any parts, try to find the electro-magnetic valve, detache its wires (or just one), isolate the detached connectors and see what the machine does. If the same, it defenitely is the inlet valve. Good luck!

Sorry Abdo, I just realised the inletvalve is not in the machine but on the water tap connection itself. It sits in that block which forms one piece with the hose. I replaced the whole thing on another Bosch machine, not too complicated but expensive :-( So taking it apart, to do a test by interrupting the electricity to the electricmagnetic valve, is often not so easy. It means you'll have to find the right wires in the bundle comming from that waterinlet combination in the machine and disconnect them there. Then put the water pressure and electricity on again and listen/see what happens. If no water flows, the inletvalve is still okay and then it means it is opened when not yet needed. Could be the driving circuitry to the valve, could be other electronics. Can't tell from here.
