It`s a shame that Blizzard can´t write good female anti-heroes/villains. Look at the poor girl from Diablo 3, Sylvannas BS story arc or Kerrigans story arc.

If they really wanted to go to the point of redeeming kerrigan in the end. She should have remained fully zerg honestly. I really would not know how to get her back to being zerg'y without involving something nasty happening to Raynor so i get them going for that as her motive and I understand the motives she has during the first half of HOTS (Fuck everyone else because the one i care for is gone) but through heart of the swarm maybe get her to go to Zerus early and find out after that Raynor is alive but guarded somewhere she would still need the full might of the swarm to get into. Now she realizes she made a mistake actually get her to mellow out alot more and start exploring for lost zerg genetics or increasing her power to be able to get raynor freed. Have the one time she runs into the Protoss where she tries to negotiate that she is simply looking for something and doesn't want to get in the way. but the protoss refuse to budge. make it so she tries diplomacy and maybe objectives where you have to only disable the protoss. not outright wipe them out and an objective to leave after finding what you need. And yea.. Wings she should have gotten a couple of wins. The lack of wins in Liberty really undermined that aspect of her in SC2. Hell I do honestly like the idea of Kerrigan ultimately being the big blocker to Amon taking full control over the zerg broods. But it was not explored enough and honestly. A fourth expansion of starcraft 2 with all three factions slowly developing a trust, co-mingling properly and building to stabilize things before going after Amon might have been an interesting idea (Could have even been something the co-op missions could have been used for instead of being non-canon). To help flesh out some story plot holes or something. But no.. They made her angry purple zerg superwoman. Really the only hint of her positive turn towards not being a monster was the small snippets they really should have expanded upon. Particularly the one with Valerian being a big prominent one before the attack on korhal. Hell it would have been a neat idea where one of the objectives was building up and defending yourself while you are forced to await for the civilians to evacuate.. or even defend them. Primal Zerg Kerrigan would have to prove she is actually different after the storyline. hell it could have even brought a few good storybeats for SC3 if they even decided to do it. Instead of leaving the swarm to Zagara. Prove she won't actually backstab those that help her. and prove she is only taking power for what is needed. show that people still are not comfortable and make her have to work to prove she is legitimately different after the artifact purified her of Amon's "influence" Also the stupid kerrigan becoming Xel'Naga.. will never stop upsetting me. Such a dumb move. It's only after Sylvanas that i noticed just how similar the two were. I like kerrigan alot more honestly. She had potential. Now she is just a weird mystical Deus ex machina character. could have been much better. Am thinking of things that could have actually made it a bit more believable if they wanted to stick so hard to redeeming kerrigan. it could have been better.

"billions of zergs" you know that zergs are like not individuals there is not much difference between a zerling and a nother while every protoss and terran are unique individuals that can not be replace by the families and close of kin? The only sentient zergs are like Broodqueens, Abathur and Isha and all they feel is murder.

I left another comment regarding the allged stupidity of her in wings of liberty, however there is a bigger flaw in everything you did here. She isn't really the same person she was, she goes through 3 massive changes to her personality. 1. We have Kerrigan the Ghost, the weapon for Mengsk, formerly a test subject as well. She's got all the attitude in the first SC campaign. There's a potential romance between them, she just puts pursuing it until the theoretical end of the war, she's a bit focused on things like freedom and revenge. 2. The queen of blades. The zerg take her, alter her mind heavily, not just her appearance and enslaving her to the hive mind. She is essentially a new personality, though she has pieces of her old self and all her old memories. She gains freedom when the overmind dies but her mind was still heavily altered. 3. She is freed from the majority of the changes from the zerg, her original personality re-emerges, though she is horrified by what she remembers from the queen of blades. She's changed but basically her old self again. 3.5 following Jim's "death" she puts herself through a lot of zerg changes, but her kind is still intact, she later goes xel'naga but again her personality is still there. The queen of blades of brood war, and sc1 is basically a different person. They twisted her mind and gave her a lot of new desires, amped up her aggression, and a lot of other things. She gets mostly returned to her old self.

I think you exaggerate her incompetence in wings of liberty. Sure in brood war she has a plan, executes it nearly perfectly and deciebes everyone, but it relied upon them needing her for what they wanted. That isn't repeatable because they won't trust her at all. Also is smart and capable, but to expect perfection of her at all times is ridiculous, she may not have time to plan things, and even if someone is smart they cannot come up with every single good idea. Also, gameplay limitations mean she can't act perfectly or you would lose. You also can't trust each gameplay momemt to be "canon" on the same was as story cutscenes.

I feel like the Hybrids and Xel'Naga characters all suffer from not being given a campaign of their own. Because SC1 allowed you to play the baddies (Zerg) but SC2 had you play only goodies (and made the Zerg goodies too), which is sad. Playing the rise of the Xel'Naga and THEN bringing their downfall could feel very satisfying.

This is the "playing the bad guy" problem back in the early 2000s. Before 2000, you can play as the bad guy in games. Like for instance in Red Alert Soviet mission 1, you commit war crimes. In warcraft 1 and 2, humans good and orcs bad. After 2000s, they tried to redeem the bad guys. Look at warcraft 3, orcs were redeemed. Even in the undead campaign, you do not really play as the bad guy as you are being controlled by a higher entity. Even in CNC, back in the 90s, GDI good and Nod bad. But in CNC 3, Nod gets redeemed because they were pushed into less hospitable territories and so had no choice but to rebel. Red Alert 2, soviets were controlled by Yuri. I have seen these transitions back in the day, but I have no idea why. They were never going to make a brood war style Kerrigan in Starcraft 2, probably because they could not. It was always going to be a redeemed Kerrigan and Zerg.

I'd say things are not even that complicated. It's just they fucked up campaigns in order. And have to follow linear timeline. If they can just switch Campaigns and made stories happen simultaneously, the result will be different. The only thing requiring to be fixed, is Amon has to be the ultimate threat across all campaigns. And Kerrigan definitely should play a very important role so killing her in WoL is big no no. That's too predictable and Zergs will have no reason to battle Amon. Overmind will also look like idiot to create Queen of Blade for nothing. What could happen, is from storytelling perspective, Artanis can fail to reclaim Aiur and encountered Amon's Hybrids army early. He has to gather all other Protoss to face Amon. It will perfectly explain why Protoss disappeared in entire Terran Campaign. Raynor's rebellion going against Mengsk is the main Terran story but Zeratul involves and Kerrigan's importance kicks in. The rest is the same. Then Artanis finally appears to warn everyone Amon is ready to be revived. The rest is HoS but changing the theme from pure revenge, more about Kerrigan slowly accepted her destiny. Mengsk is a problem because he has helped to create Hybrids and if alliance needs to be built, Mengsk has to be gone so Raynor can command Terran. Kerrigan also needs to reclaim Zerg. Then the whole Zerg Campaign is to build up the final battle. Eventually, Amon finally be born and the whole universe is near the oblivion. The Final chapter can start with Artanis trying to claim Auir back from Amon but got controlled, Zeratul sacrificed himself just like LoTV. Finally, Protoss, Terran and Zerg can build ultimate alliance to battle Amon. Kerrigan eventually sacrificed herself to put Amon in the end. Finish her redemption arc. Then if we want to give Raynor a happy ending, It can always be Kerrigan lost all her power after battling Amon. Somehow it means she also got back to human form and not even her psychic ability can ever be recovered. Queen of Blade or Xel'naga become history, and she goes with Raynor to live the short mortal life.

Yea Starcraft and warcraft have very similar villians, IE there is an overall single villian, then there is a swarm villian which one person has to take a place of to control, then there is corrupting others. However the thing is, that Starcraft 2 is very isolated and does not jab at the first game, it make sense to not be concern of it in Wings of liberty since, well, no one truly knows until Raynor is given a hefty dump that "oh Amon is returning". An issue between the Xel'naga and the Burning legion, one has a mold, the other is just there, however there was something when I played Wings of liberty and heart of the swarm, I noticed one felt heftier while the other felt shorter than short, sure its a revenge story but I felt like there was more to the plot in some regards.

DUDE YOU NEED AND I MEAN NEED, TO PLAY the old c&c-s Or at least watch the CG movies. You can easily find compilations on youtube. Kane IS the greatest RTS villain ever. No one will ever come close to Joe Kucan as Kane. He defined a franchise. It's also a lesser known fact, that Joe was not only playing Kane but he was also director, and co-writer for the FMV cutscenes. He is the GOAT

The only half-fictional person that affected me was Chris-chan (as sad as it is😅) due to his issues with fame, among other things. As for truly fictional character: Shinja from Battle Realms affected me deeply: "What would YOU do?! Hide for another 7 years in a falling-down hut, sipping tea and waiting to [unalive]?!?!" 😮

Was that even a question, about fun without StarCraft? 😮 If we speak solely about fun, then StarCraft isn't high on the list: WarCraft 3, Red Alert and Warhammer 40K have specifically comedic elements. Anyway, if someone asked me to recommend RTS games, I'd probably mention StarCraft as number 5 at best. (WarCraft 3, Stronghold and Warhammer 40K are way more interesting, in my opinion, and the Red Alert series has way too funny campaigns). StarCraft is overhyped, ladies and gentlemen. But at least it keeps the genre afloat.

Something that I love about Kel'Thuzad, which now that I think about it, I also love about Arkhan the Black from Warhammer, is the fact that hes loyal to the big bad, in spite of having free will. Hes not being blackmailed, hes not bound to loyalty, hes not doing it to protect a loved one from his masters wrath. Hes fully capable of going it alone, has free will, yet chooses to be the Right Hand anyway. Kel'Thuzad is not required to save Arthas when hes ambushed by Sylvanas in Frozen Throne, he Chooses to. Theres something awe inspiring and a little bit intimidating about that.

Really of all the people in this list who have killed thousands of people for their own reasons you put Illidan among them? The guy who in his campaign either was fighting against the bad guys(Legion, Scourge) or in self defense? I am not saying that you couldn't present an argument for Illidan being a villain, but he does not compare to anyone on that list when it comes to villainy(in the quote you presented he was literally saying I am going to destroy the bad guys essentially).

The only reason Kane can't win in this is because half the fanbase would oppose him being called a villain, lol:D Tbh Mengsk was killed off too early. I guess Blizzard felt that they won't be able to make Starcraft 3 under Activision so they decided to rush things and do everything needed to wrap story up in SC2.
