I’m pretty much convinced this is the best single engine on the planet 🌎 However G3000 w/autoland, more range >1803nm hint…hint…. jump seat option/ toilette cassette with fully reclining main seats 💺 onboard radar and a Medevac STC would secure its position. Then…… can we get an E2000 carbon fiber twin jet pretty please and thank you 🙏

I was shocked at the poor pickup technique, thought maybe it was a factory pilot giving a demo to non experienced pilot but it looked as though only one person up front. Must have been having a bad day

Nice plane and excellent idea for the motors. No one has talked about emissions. Turbocharged diesels are certainly fuel efficient. They are simple and this one has no electronics. Looks like just turn on and off the gas with a throttle. No electronic controls on the injectors. Very simple. A supercharger is needed for starting for positive pressure without the crankcase feeding the cylinder. With the separate sump there should be real reliability. Replaceable liners is like in race motors. Cheap and fast to replace. All you have rotating is the supercharger, crank, rods, and pistons. Those parts last in a wet bottom end. Do they also dry sump it?

Based on your comment "Looks like just turn on and off the gas with a throttle" it appears that you have no idea how a diesel engine works. The power level controls the amount of fuel injected by the precision high-pressure injection pump per cylinder firing; there is no throttle in a diesel, and they don't burn "gas". Operation is fundamentally simple, but the injection pump is more complex than the rest of the engine combined... and it is certainly rotating hardware - as well as the lubricating pump(s) - in addition to what you listed. With no electronics this will puke smoke the if power lever is mismanaged, or if the upper fuel limit is not set properly. The only thing simple here is the lack of a valvetrain due to the basic loop-scavenged two-stroke design, instead of a four-stoke or a uniflow two-stroke (which has valves for exhaust but not intake). "No one has talked about emissions" because aircraft get away with murder... they do not have to meet the emissions restrictions of road vehicles or even non-road industrial engines. It's just filthy, and allowed to be. Turbochargers help diesel efficiency (by allowing combustion over a shorter period closer to minimum chamber volume) but not much. More importantly they do help output per displacement; without turbocharging an aircraft diesel would have either too much weight (for adequate power) or too little power (with acceptable weight) to be useful in an aircraft. Even diesel trucks and ships all use turbochargers now. Yes, the blower (not supercharger) is needed for scavenging because the pistons and crankcase are not used for scavenging.

I love the Epic... But using Chevrolet Malibu seats in a multimillion dollar plane really shouldn't happen. Please, GM is ghe worst. At least use some Toyota seats.

I don’t think it’s all carbon fiber, mainly fuselage. The fuel ⛽️ itself is almost a ton however, these things add up quickly. Engine and accessories probably are an easy 500lbs.

@@nowayoutstp4 but the 2 ton is empty weight. And I think wings are carbon too. only landing gear and such that would be metal. Engine seems to be around 300kg alone plus a heavy prop. One of many reasons why turboprops shouldn't exist and jets are just better. I did some napkin math with GPT. With a 2mm fuselage and 3mm average wing surface the entire structure would be 300kg. then interior covering and seats might add similar. But even then it only adds up to a ton with the heavy engine. Maybe they just overengineered the carbon structure to ridiculous strength. Or wasted weight here and there.

New engine package; apparently still need to sort out the ignition timing and fuel-air mixture during the startup and power changes. Relatively clean when running, though, so they’re getting there.
