I just beat it today with rich cat, rock and King of Extinction Phono. He is immune to surge. The crystal cat was used as well along with level 50 Balrog. What worked for me was Phono. The rock only stopped very few surges, but Phono killed it!

I’m not gonna lie I just used a legend ticket that I bought for $7.99….And got her not even knowing how good she was. 😅

This strategy used to work 3 years ago but there may have been PONOS updates. It seems that quite a few (including me) cannot do it with this strategy in recent years. The thrillerz or scizzeroo seem to block stone cat about 50-70% of the time now.
