Great stuff! I was gonna build a chassis to go with a 1970 Camaro, this has got me thinking now. Oh the options, thank you! 🫡
@hobbitracing6 сағат бұрын
Absolutely. The possibilities are there. I look at cars like these, and some FLY models, where you can really 'clean up' the out of the box stuff and then get great results from the tuning mods. Thanks

Hi is your 720 noisy ? mine goes fine on a Club track but is fairly noisy, expert club members have tried and given up finding solutions 😁 car handles really well and is a wee bit slower but i can live with that, cheers Mike
@hobbitracingАй бұрын
Hi Mike. Yes. I owe everyone the last part of the tuning video to conclude, but I agree. I've done many things across many tunes to calm the rattles and noises, but this car, while quick and great handling, runs as if something is rattling around. It may be the way the body rests when achieving float. It could be gear lash, however unlikely. It could be pod to chassis connections. Either way, what I can say is that this car is on par with my Slot.it and Scaleauto GT cars when it comes to performance and that is what matters most to me! Thanks for the feedback.

Happy to hear, maybe we get some momentum if we make enough noise and they keep making these 'low nose' cars like this. And yet such a simple solution, that you'd think the entire goose-neck could be redesigned in an updated mold. Thanks for the feedback.

@hobbitracing3 ай бұрын
Nice info and agreed, not surprising at all. We have 2 classes (NSR GT & Group5) with the baby king. Then (GT High Performance, DPi, LMP, GrpC, Slot.it Classics) with MX-16 (or a Piranha). There's interchangeable nature. Slightly lower rpm, but the torque or the other way around. It's great to have them all fit in. Thanks for the feedback!

Why are you using the tape underneath the chassis and pod?
@hobbitracing4 ай бұрын
Great question. The strapping tape provides a level of dampening that allows the pod/chassis connection to be smooth and gradual in the side to side inertia that comes into play as we corner. Sometimes even very flimsy chassis that have no motor pod are even helped by this dampening. Many folks use different kinds of tape, but I prefer the strapping variety.

The screw could possibly be binding on the wing of the pod, as well as being screwed into the anchor plug that sits on top of the pod.
@hobbitracing4 ай бұрын
Indeed, there was work ahead of me. I didn't capture it all on camera, but there was binding. Thankfully, it's all good now...and I'm keeping the 5-point pod after all. We got a screamer here! Thanks for the feedback.

Try adding 5 grams behind the rear axle. Can’t guarantee it will suit your track but works on my Porsches.
@hobbitracing5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I love trying rear weight, under or behind the axle, as well. Oddly enough, it worked well in the #21 Kenwood, but not needed here. So much so that this one could be considered a 'class buster', producing some of the fastest GrpC times for this track...without anything but the magnet for rear weight.

I agree with @slotjournal... I was not a fan of Group 5... until we raced the sideways cars at Cincy Slots.. and they really grew on me.. now I love them! The Beta Montecarlo has become a favorite.. my brother picked it up in the Fruit of the Loom livery and it looks fantastic! The Baby King is a great motor for these cars! Great choice!

@slotjournal6 ай бұрын
Initially, Group 5 cars were not on my radar - I never cared for the look of the aero effects from this era - but after buying a purple Carrera Pantera for my wife (her favorite color) they started to grow on me a bit...so now pretty much have I have one example of most types in mixed brands. The advice to at least take a new car and inspect it before running was a good one - as evidenced by that back wheel issue. I understand going to the 17k for more torque...what stock motor is in that Sideways?
@hobbitracing6 ай бұрын
Similarly, they grew on me. That is a flat-6 from Slot.it. When Scott set up classes originally (long before I rebuilt the track here ) from his years of experience and testing, he determined certain classes would run very well with the high torque, lower rpm NSR baby king. It's just enough to stretch the legs on the straights for a track this size, yet allow for such great take off power when geared appropriately.
@turboprop53716 ай бұрын
Nice cars... why don't you fix the obvious defects then run the cars as is? I don't understand buying beautiful quality cars and start buying aftermarket parts and hacking up perfectly good cars. I don't get it... Good Luck on your endeavors
@hobbitracing6 ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for the feedback, and more importantly, the opportunity to clarify. We're not 'hacking up' any cars here. We're tuning per racing class specs as run at HRP. The only major exchange is a motor, and then possibly changing gears that provide better speed and performance. Weighing a slot car appropriately, inserting axle spacers and a better guide are very routine These are basic performance increases, if allowed per your club or commercial track rules, along with the fact that most classes have a motor spec parameter as a primary consideration. Overall, these are options and opportunities to increase the fun! Take care

Did you do any tire trueing to the rear and front tires or was the tires kept as hey came out of the box? What voltage were you runnig around your track?
@hobbitracing7 ай бұрын
Hi. Great questions. Quick Slicks really are slip-on silicone tires, as they say, but I like to knock off the sharp edges created from the mold that sometimes sticks to the tires. I do this with dry wall sandpaper. Front zerogrip are a similar case where I try to ensure no flashing rubber left behind, and if they roll true, I try to avoid scuffing the zg compound. The track is run at 9.5v. Thanks
