I have the first gen w the 2 way zip (worth the weight, sad to see the new versions still doesn't come with them) & it doesn't have any self-stow pocket. It came w a separate sack which I use for other stuff since I just toss it in my pack & it fills out empty space.

Okay I have the newest version of the Das Parka. I love this jacket and it even holds up to 10 below, BUT! I'm returning it. As a photographer 50 miles east of Anchorage in the Matsu - Valley in AK when I'm standing around in 20 degrees to below 20 degrees the hand warmer pockets of all things are way too small they barely fit my hands. I'm 5 8" 180 so I'm not a big guy. Not to mention there's no liner in the hand warmer pockets so it's brutal even if it's 30 degrees and the wind is howling. For 4 bills I want my hands warm while taking pics and not have to wear gloves. It's beyond frustrating patagonia made an amazing jacket and the hand warmer pockets suck. I'm willing to pay more money to patagonia if they made the hand pockets the way they should be, a little extra $ no prob to keep my hands warm while standing around. I can't even believe this is an issue lol crazy. So close but yet so far. Peace

Nice review. I have an earlier version of this jacket in black with many of the same features that I use for winter camping in N Minnesota. The mesh pocket inside is used to keep a water bottle (at the time the preferred bottle was 32 oz Nalgene) inside so it doesnt freeze. Mines got a lot of patches from cinders from campfires. Also has one larger hand pocket that can be reversed to stuff the jacket into w a lot of work.

the fit’s one of it’s best features IMHO. I’m 5’6” 130 lbs in winter & my XS even fits over a XS Macro Puff if need be. I find it breathable & enough for cold & fast hiking, & bouldering, but blocks an enough of a breeze. If I need precip protection it’s great under a shell. I like that it’s not as warm & fleecy as an R1, & lighter than a usual soft shell Love the stretch, long simple sleeves & how it slims down towards the waist. All individual preferences 🤷🏽♂️

Maaaaan, I had this jacket back in 1994/95 in all black before they started with the "Summit series" stuff..the new 2024 version seems to mix this jacket and the Himalaya together..the new 2024 version has black by the elbows like the older original version and now they added the black on the wrist part like the old Himalaya jacket..

My favorite Patagonia piece. Sold my first one several years ago and really regretted it. I have been searching and finally found one for a reasonable price, same blue and orange as before. Wish Patagonia would make this again (non hybrid).

how is the DWR? i read it's not good and it deteriorates quickly
@almostadventurous2 ай бұрын
Great question! Patagonia’s DWR on the Triolet, like most eco-friendly finishes, is PFAS-free, which makes it more environmentally friendly but does mean it might require a bit more upkeep than older DWR formulas. Out of the box, it should do a solid job repelling water, but over time, dirt, oils, and general wear can affect its performance, leading to that 'wetting out' effect where water starts soaking in instead of beading off. To keep it performing at its best, a quick clean and reapplication of a DWR treatment (I usually go with Granger's or Nikwax) every season or after heavy use really helps. Just a little maintenance keeps the water-shedding strong!

I’m in between the Granite Crest and the Triolet, I got similar prices in both of them, and I shouldn’t need but in exceptional cases something too rugged, on the other hand I’d love to have the extra waterproofing and breathability of Gore-tex Membrane. So I wanted to ask is: You said it doesn’t pack to small, but how small does it pack? I was informed that it packs pretty as small as the Granite Crest, but I can’t find anybody showing it packed. Did you experience packing it down? How far does it go?
@almostadventurous2 ай бұрын
I can easily roll it into its own hood for packing. Honestly, between the two I would go Triolet, mostly because of the Gore-Tex. It really is a premium shell.

last years XS fit too tight so i cut the sleeves off at the seams & turned it into a vest. It’s the perfect little versatile nothing that fits anywhere and blocks core & head wind in key situations. This years size small is just lose enough & extending the cap LW through the pits was def a plus.

Would the nano puff jacket be better than this if you live in a wet climate? I live in the U.K. and it rains a lot. Sounds like where down wouldn’t be a good idea?
@almostadventurous6 ай бұрын
If we’re talking synthetic from Patagonia I think the closest comparison to the down sweater would be a Micro Puff, though the Nano Puff is also a good, albeit not as warm (imo) option. If you want something synthetic that’s even warmer, I really like the DAS or the Macro Puff, both of which I’ve reviewed here. Thanks for watching!

Do you recomend it for -20º celsius?
@almostadventurous6 ай бұрын
When it gets that cold I always layer. Last year I did a summit hike around those temperatures and this jacket was part of what I wore. Underneath I wore a baselayer, then an R1, and a shell over it since it was pretty windy and snowy. Layering is always key. Over just a t shirt? Not gonna cut it. As part of a layering setup? Sure.

First, great review. We need more current year Patagoni content so ty. Just a warning to anyone buying anything Patagonia from 2023 or newer so you don’t ruin a $300 jacket like i just did. Their new non-toxic DWR does bead water, it DOESNT block stains anymore. I ate in mine.. mayo drop right on the front. Went to Patagonia site and followed their directions to the T and still have a big discolored grease blob. I wear them til they fall apart so I’ll be embarrassed for a decade. DONT EAT IN ANYTHING WOTH THIS NEW DWR. how I wished I’d have known that. Hope this helps someone.

@almostadventurous9 ай бұрын
Depends on what you are using it for. It is a fairly slim piece so if you like it to be slim and want it to fit under other clothing then I would say order your regular size. If you want it looser then get a size up.

its a good piece, but why did they make the breast pocket so small? i have to use 2 hands to get my phone in and out. its very tight.
@almostadventurous9 ай бұрын
I agree with this so much. I find it not very useful at all. I'm sure it was for weight or money savings (or both) but if a pocket is unusable then why bother? The R3 of old has nice large chest pockets, I wish they went that route.
