My coping mechanism is stop and read or stop and sing- idk why shes associating this with bad and implying that everyone says its bad bc i dont see anything wrong with it or anything that might seem wrong in it

Hi - she is actually saying that exactly - that it's not bad. However she was (in context) talking about a less healthy coping skill of busyness and overdoing (in order to avoid rest which brought on negative emotions that she was avoiding). And even WITH a less healthy coping skill than that - it still wasn't bad because coping skills are designed to keep you safe. When you later in life realize that an unhealthy or no-longer-useful coping mechanism isn't serving you and may be harming you, you can thank it and have compassion for the role it's played in your life ... and then choose other strategies in the future. But even those "negatively viewed" coping skills like overeating or drinking or self-harm that are more destructive are never your brain's way to harm you but in turn trying to keep you safe. I'd invite you to check out the whole episode to hear more about her amazing journey from self-destructive coping to learning to thrive in new helpful strategies :)

First off I am sorry for the trauma you endured. This topic is not easy to discuss. However as a survivor myself I appreciate the candid discussion. It's a very needed topic for many people to learn about and heal from.
