So you put people in a cage and then expect them to psychologicaly be well to go into society, the logic isn't working here so in order to survive they lie lie lie because prisoners learn that society and the world doesn't have their best interest. nobody is your friend unless you yourself are willing to submit

It is strange listening to this topic concerning predatory law schools in the USA, by a retired lawyer, here, in Canada. I started off in a large firm, in Toronto; instructed at the Bar Admission course at Osgoode Hall; and finished off on the bench for 20 years. The tuition cost per year, in the 70’s was around $2500; and now, in 2024, around $30,000. The real issue, today, are the add/on costs of accommodation and other necessities of life; that more than double the annual tuition cost. But the real substantive issue today, is when one finally gets out there, in the cold dark world; finding an articling position - smaller and medium sized firms are not taking on graduates - in large firms, welcome to the Gulag, in which the majority of the “newlings” will be divorced (if one enters, married), or separated. So think twice, before contemplating law school. Sorry folks!

What do you call a person who graduated last of their class from the worst law school that is not even accredited by the American Bar Association? A fucking lawyer.

I attend many conferences and seminars. A common mistake is speakers talking with their hands. That's particularly annoying and detracts what's being said. Repeating "like" or playing with your hair doesn't help any either.

What would you say is the number one key to being able to pass the Bar Exam? The reason I asked is because back when I took the First Year Law Student's Exam, which is basically a Baby Bar, I failed it. Not uncommon, as there is only a 20% to 30% pass rate at the Law School I was at the time. Also, I have a nephew who's wife worked at a Law Office for 5 years before going to Law School and taking the Bar Exam, and she failed twice even after working at the Law Office for all this time, but finally passed on her third try. She is now a Licensed lawyer in the State of Alabama. Any thoughts?

People in this comment section are missing the point. These students are being admitted to law school with ZERO chance to pass the bar.

Sorry I missed the big day. Congratulations. My youngest daughter is becoming a doctor herself on May 5th. Her father and her grandfather were also lawyer. Neither practiced. I was a paralegal for also a paralegal for almost 30 years. We all told her she could do anything she wants, except law school. So of course her husband paid her way through the school. He didn't know we told that until her second year. She has been accepted to Northeastern University for her LLM. She has gotten further than either of them. She buys eye shadow every time she goes to a store. She is a high maintenance child. Her husband owns one of the most famous bars and restaurants in the third largest cities in Massachusetts. He is hosting her graduation party. I will look to see how you are doing now that it has been three years. I haven't seen what you are planning on doing. My daughter worked as a paralegal for the man who talked her husband she needed to go to law school. He is one of the most famous lawyers in the same town her husband owns the bar. He has already planned where her office will be. He is moving another lawyer out of his office and is ready to go to work for him. I sincerely hope you have the job of your dreams. Again. CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎓🎓🎓 It is something special to do. If you have ever watched “The Paper Chass” that's truly what I they do in the first year. So anyone who makes it the first year has my undying respect.

If you don't have an in, these schools may not be it for you. However, if you have an in, and all you need is license to practice, it is doable. Nationally recognized as one of the best trial lawyers in the nation, Gary Dordick, went to a non-ABA accredited, private school. It's all about who you know and how hard you're willing to work. Best of luck!

The drudgery of document reviews during discovery has been reduced through predictive coding and Technology Assistent Review ("TAR"). This means spending fewer nights and weekends in the basement pouring throughr Bankers Boxes full-on paper.😅
@notme1237 ай бұрын
Luckily, much of the "doc review" drudgery can be handled with the assistance of AI and production of representative samples of documents pursuant to the amendments to the Federal Riles of Civil Procedure.

Hey Madison :) Saw it on TikTok, but it's great to see it on KZbin as well for people who might not follow you on TikTok or don't have it, mostly for the OG who want to have some news about you ☺ Quick question, do you go to Court a lot yet, or you just work in office? Also, how's Nathan doing, do you keep in touch? (It's interesting to hear about you job and also about the differences with Law School. When I started working at the Courthouse, I was shocked by how it was *nothing* like Paralegal College. Although we learn a lot of hands on stuff and how to file documents, the program is mostly aimed at private practice and Civil law. I ended up in Criminal law in a Courthouse, a.k.a for the Ministry of Justice, a.k.a for public service and it's just so different from anything I had learned. We didn't have *any* class on clerk jobs-some colleges do. The other thing that surprised me was how different it was from TV shows or movies haha (I expected that, but not to that extend I guess). Also, my heart goes out to new lawyers or interns for the crap they're somethimes given. I had this one intern for the prosecution a few weeks ago who had to conduct a trial (a short one, only one day, but still, that still means the whole case rests on her shoulders) that she was handed the same morning because the other intern who was suppose to do it was sick that day. Had to review the whole file the same morning because coming in and interrogating the accused. She was really good though, but it must have been terrifying when you haven't worked the case and don't know any of the facts or the jurisprudence, and aren't prepared. At least the judge liked her and kept insisting on the fact that she was just an intern who didn't know the file going against "an experienced lawyer who knew his case" when in fact the dude was from Legal Aid and had only been a lawyer since 2019 and has had a different/weird start with the whole pandemic situation. We joked about that a lot during recesses.) Also shoutout to all the lawyers working alone without a paralegal or an assistant and who are on the edge of burnout too haha. That's most often the case in Criminal law. There is not "big cab" doing Criminal or Penal law, really. Anyway, always great to hear from you and I'm sending you positive vibes for you future, as always 💜 Definitly would like a part 2 ☺

Thank you! And not really-I started orange theory again to try to keep some semblance of a routine. When you’re in big law, it’s easy to literally work all the time (and make it an excuse not to go to the gym) so it’s been easier doing scheduled workouts to hold me accountable while I’m still adjusting! My diet is a mess though lol

To make big bucks in NYC: start your own firm, get a web site and CHARGE LESS!!! THE AVERAGE RATE IN NYC IS $250 PER HR. THAT IS UNAFFORDABLE TO THE AVERAGE PERSON. A $100 PER HR LAWYER WOULD CLEAN UP. PICK A NICHE!!! THEIR ARE A MILLION PEOPLE WITH HARVARD, NYU AND COLUMBIA LAW DEGREES. DEPEND ON YOUR SELF AND DEFINE YOUR NICHE.

In nyc its all about contacts: Who you know: guys from columbia brooklybn and fordham,pace have a hard time getting a job. GO TO ALUMNI MEETINGS TO BUILD A NETWORK. IF YOUR A PARTNER YOU MAKE BIG BUCKS ELSE YOUR JUST A 50K TO 70K WORKER WHO IS EXPECTED TO WORK 70 TO 80 HRS PER WEEK(doing crap work).
