Do finesse lures work effectively in murky water. I’m in central Florida and a lot of the lakes are super murky
@jakemeetsfish6 күн бұрын
I am also in central Florida and have great success. You would be surprised at how well these fish can navigate and track small baits, it's what they have to do to eat! That little DIY beetlespin setup is a cheat code down here🤫

Yours is the first video I found with a review of the 650c. Been eyeing that one a long time for throwing small jerkbaits in creeks and ponds, but seems like most guys gravitate toward the longer lengths. I always thought the 650 would fit the bill, and your video confirmed that for me. Just pulled the trigger on one from the 25% off Halloween Sale at American Legacy. Thanks for the info! Oh, and I subscribed 👍🏼

Shoot I am debating between the 690 and the 691 model. I am mostly targeting white bass and walleye. I mostly use jig for bottom contact and moving lure such as chatterbait or crank bait. Which would you recommend for me?
@jakemeetsfish20 күн бұрын
Like a micro chatterbait? Could definitely not throw a normal chatterbait on these. My general recommendation would be treble hooks = 690, single hooks = 691
@Zz-id5qp20 күн бұрын
@@jakemeetsfish yes micro chatterbait my bad. Oh okay if that how the rating works which is the most versatile in your opinion between the two ratings?
@jakemeetsfish20 күн бұрын
The 691 is more versatile because you can upsize treble hook baits to make them work for it. It's hard to manage any single hook baits on the 0 power. The 0 power is a ton of fun for small treble hook baits though.

BFS makes me laugh, there were a lot of these rods 20+ years ago, we just didn’t call them that. For one example, I have a moderate action All Star II Finesse rated 6-12 lb line that is every bit FBS as anything today, same with my Fenwick Golden Wing about the same specs. Seeing all the pros muscle-in hard hook sets with broomstick rods took over the last couple decades due to marketing bass tournaments, now lots of people realize how ridiculous that was, it’s a lot more fun to have a bend in the rod while fighting small fish. Sure, the new BFS rods probably are lighter weight and more sensitive and might have better guides, but it’s nice to see the old rod actions finally return to what bait casting was 30 years ago. I hate fighting with broomstick rods.
@jakemeetsfish23 күн бұрын
Wow! I had no idea, thats so cool! Agreed the stout rod bass fishing got out of control and really got away from the fun of good bend and fighting the fish. Thanks for the back story, really interesting!

@@jakemeetsfish i’ve used a spinning combo every time i go trout fishing, what are the advantages of a bait finesse setup?
@jakemeetsfish28 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say one is better than the other, bait caster form factor allows for much quicker spool engagement after casts and for quick flick casts without having to flip a bail over. These are all small preference things and I would use a spinning reel in a heart beat as well!

Great vid. What's the best way to retrieve it? Do you want to let the worm sink or keep the rod at an angel and leave it above the muck a little bit?
@jakemeetsfishАй бұрын
Thanks! I would not leave your rod at an angle because then the bait will sink and be tail down and look unnatural. I would pull up, dance it, and drop it back down on slack line to give it a natural fall. And keep repeating that.

Sounds good thank you!

I think it’s a sin to fish trout with a bait caster
@jakemeetsfishАй бұрын
It's not a traditional bait caster, it's a bait finesse reel designed for ultralight fishing like trout. Try it out it's a blast!
@espio23ifyАй бұрын
I ran into an issue with a drop shot where if I cast it out say, 30 feet, I noticed that as I retrieved it (slowly, with pauses), the bait would rotate to the front of the line and sort of drag belly up. This is as opposed to what I would expect, which would be the bait trailing behind the line, with the drop shot weight below. As far as I could tell, the bait wants to sink and rotate where gravity wants to push it, down and in front of the line due to the angle from your rod tip to the drop shot weight. I think if I used a floating Z-Man bait for example, there'd be no issue. Am I missing something? What's causing the bait to rotate under and in front of the line on the retrieve?
@jakemeetsfishАй бұрын
You are absolutely correct and I found the same issue with that retrieve. My solution is to not hold the bait still with my line pulled tight. Instead I would let the bait fall the bottom naturally and pop it up a few times and let it go completely slack line again, allowing it to naturally free fall back the bottom and repeating that process. This way it's more like fishing a weightless lure that happened to be tethered to the bottom.
@MrCalamitehАй бұрын
Don't lip trout like they're bass. Their jaw is nowhere near as strong as a bass's jaw and theres a good chance that you legitimately fucked that fish up right there. Just wet your hand and hold their body. It seems backward as a bass fisherman (I am as well) but it's the correct way to handle trout.
@jakemeetsfishАй бұрын
Thanks for the info! Will definitely be better about that next time, had the hook in an awkward spot and my instinct was to lip him.

What product is that allowing dual rod holders? I can see the argument for anchors if your paddling but when pedalling I hardly use it. Certainly still occasionally use it for some situations but it gets used less for me.
@jakemeetsfishАй бұрын
They are called "side arms" made by yakattack, I think they are linked in the video description. Yeah anchors definitely needed as a paddler but I can see if you have a peddling boat how it becomes less essential!
