PLEASE do not teach anybody how to tie a bolt snap to their octo! SPG? Sure! Anything other than an octo? Of course. Your octo? DO. NOT. DO. THIS. Somebody will follow your advice without thinking, and then there's another diving casualty.

These two styles presented all make sense. Its what I use on my primary. But all the other covers I got are neither of the 2 styles. They have no pocket and just 2 dangling velcro straps and I have no frickin clue how am I supposed to attach it. When I ask people around they go "aah yeah yeah thats simple, just weave it throught the thingy and clip it off and yea all good." And it never makes any sense.

Often times zip ties can get brittle and when they are tightened down on something can often just break when twisted in certain angles so I dont mind spending a little extra time if it means i don't accidentally lose my flashlights or camera.

Thank you for the educational video. I had plenty of tips from older divers where you need talc powder on your mask if you're not gonna use it for longer than 6 months. What is your take on this? While I have not not used my mask longer than 6 months, I might be doing this soon as I'm now saving up for my dream gear (and it's currently winter -- nothing fun about diving in the cold (not ice)).
@TheDiveWagon
@TheDiveWagon Жыл бұрын
Thats a new one, that I have never heard of or seen any of my fellow divers (who have been diving for some time...long time ;) ) use. Its possible but I cant verify that unfortunately. I have masks that have been sitting in their box for 2 years with no use, and their silicone is still nice and soft and seals on my face. I would say its something you probably dont have to worry about if its just being stored for the season. Maybe ill have to do an experiment - one with talc and one without, stored for a couple years.

Regs, cameras, computers all go in my carry-on & personal item. The rest goes in the checked bag. When you book a flight, check if the price includes checked luggage, and if not how much a checked bag will cost. Often times tickets with checked luggage included are cheaper than when it's an additional charge. I'd love to put my BCD in my carry-on as well, but the TSA tends to get bitchy about the dive knives and shears. Bringing a couple of drybags isn't a bad idea either.

Don't ever clip your alternate air off with a bolt snap. Your alternate air should be easily deployable and accessible in case of an emergency. You can use this tie off technique on your SPG, your primary second stage, a dive light, or a dive knife, but never ever on your Octo/alternate air.

The issue isn't changing lenses. The issue is FINDING lenses and FINDING lenses that match your model. I made a HUGE mistake buying mares X-vision liquidskin thinking I could easily find lenses. Even if you find a store, chances are that the lenses won't match your model because Mares is unable to use proper product names.

@TheDiveWagon
@TheDiveWagon 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! That’s too bad, looks like the actual clip isn’t holding. Depending on the mask there are replacement clips and that would work. A shop would likely be able to source one for you or find one in their parts bin. And once the mask strap is being help firmly you could add a neoprene band or pad.

A dive knife is a safety tool. Are not going to cut rope with that string cutting tool. Me I like the flat tip knife they are safer. And if you dive and you don’t use your knife it was a good dive. Now as a signaling thing get a tank banger it is a plastic ball on shock cord it goes around your tank and you grab the ball give it a pull and let go. And handle of a good dive knife is heavy so if you drop it it with fall handle down. The large knife with a flat tip can be used as a prying tool. And if you get stuck in a wreck you can use the knife as a hammer to signal for help or a prying tool to self rescue. But you can’t use something you don’t have. And the weight are you on drugs? You have a weight belt with weights on it just remove some weight to compensate for your gear weight like any good diver. You are a good diver right? Now a dive knife as a weapon no. Cutting anything with blood in it is not good. But if your knife is a wasp knife that is a little different but not much. Now some reefs dives is a no good on dive knives but some replacements tools are welcomed. Me I would look up the place and dive master of the site and call and check what is not welcomed on the dive.and if it is closed to outsiders too before I book a dive.

A tank banger is so awesome, many people buy lots of them because they forget to take them off of the rental cylinder. If you need to bang something against your cylinder, how about something that isn't sharp? Or that you already have with you, like say, a bolt snap. Hell, you could even just use the spring gate to make noise. And please use them sparingly. Use them when you're in trouble, or you spot something truly awesome like a manta ray, a rare shark, or a whale.

Can you do a video on transporting your gear? When I travel through an airport, I can fit my kit (BDC, Reg, fins, mask, snorkel, computer, dive camera) in one large travel suitcase. But when I go dive, I don't want to lug my suitcase on the boat where it can get wet and nasty. Any recommendations? Do I buy a mesh bag to transport from boat to hotel? Bag recommendations?
@TheDiveWagon
@TheDiveWagon 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Chester, just saw your other comment. yeah i take a smaller mesh bag with me when I do warm water trips. AKONA or Mares have some nice bags that dot he trick. And then up here in Canada on the big charters I usually just take the large tub on the boat with me, cause they often fit.

I have the Oceanic Vortex V16, is the method for removal and replacement the same? How can you replace the stainless steel springs? thanks.
@TheDiveWagon
@TheDiveWagon 2 жыл бұрын
yeah the V16 have just a standard knob on the fins for the buckles so it will just pop off like the Mares one in the video. If it has a stainless steel spring strap - the buckle should be the same so it should come on in the same manner. But if the spring part is broken off of the buckle its probably not something thats easily fixed. It may need a replacement.
