I’m a retired Army 11H/11B and served from 1983-2009, all Active Duty time. I spent over 6 years in the 101st and we often carried a Gerber LST small folder to use to cut cotton tape on Helo,LZ’s. The multi-tool was available and in the late 80’s you’d see Grunts carry a Leatherman in a leather sheath on their trousers belt, the only thing we’d put on our LBE was an M-7 or M-9 bayonet (and the M-9 wasn’t popular, the thing was bulky and always snagged on things as we moved in and around our HMMWV’s.). Each HMMWV/Squad was issued a Machete as you have, it was for chopping local vegetation to apply to our vehicle daily to keep fresh vegetation to camouflage our vehicles. We also used camo nets along with vegetation. During my deployment to OIF 1.5 in 2003-04 with 2-6 INF, 1st AD I carried a Leatherman Wave, just a great tool. As for a fighting knife, we were issued the M-9 but it was often left at the FOB and many men carried an old M-7 bayonet or other straight blade knife but not one as long as the bayonet. We had one instance where a Grunt used a knife to kill an Iraqi when a bad guy came behind him at a small cafe, it didn’t go well for the bad guy and the platoon sergeant pulled out the dead guys wallet and found his home phone number and called his mom with a sat phone and told her to please send another kid since we killed her little Ahmed. Anyway, back to knifes. We also had the pilot’s survival knife option and some men would secure them to their IBA and it did the job. As long as the knife looked military in appearance and it wasn’t oversize the command didn’t mind. The Marines made a good choice with their fighting knife and some of us had the older Ka-Bar knife but we sort of felt guilty carrying one since we’re not Marines. The Gerber LMF made a big splash with Grunts and it’s doing a great job. When working around Iraqi civilian workers, they’d always try to borrow my Wave and I knew what they had in mind and the answer was always NO. So my advice for a young Infantryman is to get the Wave and a Gerber LMF. Thanks for the great video, hope the new generation of Grunts use this knowledge.

Black Hills Steel made that pack Golok out of Stainless Steel, a couple years ago and called it the wide belly. They also made a Stainless version of the El Chete. Both cost around 30 bucks apiece.

This a class video from a class gentleman. He has a picture shaking hands with R lee Ermey in the desert. On a separate note, Ive worked for the manufacturer of KABAR since 2015 and i can tell you theyre good to ok knives but if you're looking for kabar but nicer, the Cutco Explorer is a beefier, more refined version. Plus it comes with Cutcos forever warranty and has a kydex sheath. and I have personally replaced dozens of Cutco Kabars for my customers free of charge no questions asked. You can break the blade in half all your fault and they'll give you a new one. American made kabar made in New york and they stand by their shit. Cant get much better. My favorite kabar specific line is the Becker lineup. Each becker is built like a damn Abrams.

Definitely impressed by the Mossy Oak it is the first knife I have ever purchased that has totally off the wall sharpness really blew me away that you could shave with it right out of the clam shell packaging and so cheap! I admit the sheath is crap but wow! cut a patch of fir off my forearm dry and my skin was nice and smooth as if I had used a 5 blade razor! Mossy Oak bowie has my vote.

Believe it or not… but I ruck every single thing I eat or drink. When you’re carrying multiple milk gallons and potato’s and food for a few weeks… it’s easy to get it heavy. I’ve done over 90 pounds… granted I only go 2 miles to the store and back… but for those type tasks. Where you are willing to kill yourself with the weight but want to carry everything at once… it’s a great system. Especially with four sustainment pouches attached to it.

I have this knife. Mine doesn't have the liner lock problem. However, that damn thing has cut me many times, because it opens in my pocket. Cold Steel needs to put a stronger spring on it. Maybe my spring is just worn out from flicking it open about 300 times. I can't trust carrying it anymore.

I carried three knives in the field, a simple swiss army folding knife (you'd be surprised how handy those tweezers are) I also carried a schrade LB7 and a K-Bar. Occasionally bayonets were issued but not very often. I'd swap the bayonet for the K-bar in that case.

Hey, I bought mil tec Alice m16 mag pouches and the web belt, and my Alice clips don’t fit over the belt, I can’t attack the pouches… what do I do…
@boot_boy_6945
@boot_boy_6945 16 күн бұрын
Two things that I think should be mentioned is that the belt doesn’t need to be a new one. Any of the webbing belts going all the way back to the Korean War will work with this. I’ve also found that if you want more room on the belt that using all of the vest buttons aren’t necessary to keep the belt from falling off. I’ve pretty much always ran with only half of the belt buckles clipped together and never had an issue with them popping off.

Ontario RD-9 I think is a great camp/fighting knife but even that knife can't compete with the Cold steel Kukri plus in 3v.

Great video thanks for sharing very useful information. True with the elbow & knee pad your knees apsalutly smash your knee up really good and you just cut your mobility I half. Èlbow pads love them hate them most hate them . There uncomfortable and in hot weather miserable. I will often just have one on my right arm because I'm a left hand rifle shooter and my right elbow likes to Impact things. The utilities that have elbow and knee pad build in is nice if they line up on those point when you bend your bend those areas.

Speaking from experience no back up no support very minimum cover no cover to run to.. I only had 3 mags when the fight was over I had 3 rounds in my left last magazine. 5 rounds in my pocket. On many videos its all about light armor 3/4 magazines. My experience even if you have to suffer from more weight carry as many magazines you can. Pluss big fan of dropping your handgun to your leg get it out the way and next to were your hand naturally hangs. You're carrying a belt anyways so use that webbing. For me a battle belt is a can't do without piece of equipment. Little against todays must do gear set up.

I have this FILBE kit. Funny how it doesn't look that big sitting there on your table but when you actually get it in front of you it's massive! Way more than most people will need. But I like having all of the separate capabilities. I use the assault pack most of all. In fact I'll be wearing it on a dirt bike in the desert tomorrow.

The gear is all dye-able too, so you can customize it as needed. Also in the front pouch of the assault pack are two snaps that work with the triple mag pouch to snap into it.

I've got my dad's collection & one is a tanto version of that Kbar 1281 you showed. After carrying each knife alternateIy, I really like that one as it has the very comfortable mk2 style handle etc. Ive found that every knife I have cheap or otherwise cuts things, not immensely complicated!

pro tip take a sleeping mat cut a strip to run along the belt between 2 and 5 inches (I did 3 but have not loaded it down yet), I have not tested a lot, but you zip tie it through the eyelets in the belt and you get a decent pad

Like that you keep it all original. I have some of this gear but it might not be all original, like I run with the drop leg holster which works better with my set up because of newer style IFAK that tends to take up alot more room. Thanks for the content. Stay safe.

Just now came across your video. Very interesting presentation. I'm a big Ka-Bar and Ontario fan. I had a few thoughts as I watched what you have and talked about them. The Gerber LMF is as you said and it not full tang so safe for electrical use but it us a little bulky. Gerber also has the Prodigy which is very similar to the LMF but smaller however it is full tang. If you were wanting to use the Ka-Bar USMC you could buy the optional plastic sheath for it. There is also a Ka-Bar sized in between the USMC and the Big Brother. It is the Fighter and comes with or without serrations. I'm right now looking for an Ontario OKC3s USMC bayonet to go with my other U.S. bayonets. Thanks for sharing your gear. Always cool to see what you guys have and used.

Quickly on your reasoning for a min 5 inch blade, the cartoid artery, subclavian artery and others, along with certain organs are close to the surface, easily within reach with a 3inch knife. additionally I have used a fighting knife with a 12 inch blade, a Kukri with a 12 inch blade, and a F/S dagger in combat, they all have plus and minus’s, it boils down to whatever you are comfortable with, and the ability to use it effectively. I find the bigger blades cut deeper with less the effort, also they dont penetrate as much depending on the design. The Kukri is a special weapon, use to deflect incoming blows it can break bones along with severe cut, such as removing ones head in one go,
