@@HoustonWindowExperts Approximately how much does tempered glass add to a cost of a project. 16 windows, and I would say at least 8 or 9 windows would need temepered glass because they are only\ 12" off the ground.
@HoustonWindowExpertsКүн бұрын
@Greg-cs7pg if a window is below 18 in from the floor surface, and exceeds nine square feet of glass, it must be tempered. I will check to make sure that the piece of glass nearest the floor exceeds nine square feet before considering tempering. Tempering the glass will add to the cost in a significant way. We can get you exact pricing on that once we have the sizes. We're looking forward to connecting with you and answering any of your questions.

@@HoustonWindowExperts I was afraid of that. About 10 windows at 17sq ft and one at 22sq ft. :All of those windows at less then 18" from the floor. :( Guess I'll find out all the options tomorrow evening.
@HoustonWindowExpertsКүн бұрын
@Greg-cs7pg remember that one specific sheet of glass must exceed in 9 square feet. I've seen windows that are much larger than that but the bottom piece of glass was under 9 ft and the top piece of glass was much larger. If you have one sheet of glass that is more than 9 square feet and it is 18 inches from the floor, then it needs to be tempered.

Jeff, I’ve got quotes from Marvin Infinity and leaning towards these Infinity windows however I’m also looking at Marvin & Sierra Pacific Aluminum exterior windows with “wood” interiors. Now I can’t make a final decision. Anything to push me going all fiberglass vs Aluminum w/wood interiors?
@HoustonWindowExperts4 күн бұрын
You have to remember that the wood products are going to have a much deeper frame profile and use a lot deeper of your wall space. Can you accommodate that? What is the reason for wanting a true wood interior? If you do not have a good reason for that, I would avoid a wood product and stick with the fiberglass.

What about sliders? In cost there seems to be a benefit for going that route over two single hungs. Wondering if there is anything else to consider though when comparing those.
@HoustonWindowExperts5 күн бұрын
You are correct. Sliders do tend to save money when you can replace two single hung units that are mulled together. The primary disadvantage would be that they are not as energy efficient as other types of Windows you could choose for that opening. It will also not look as a nice on the front of a home as two side by side windows would. We usually only use them on the side and back of the house or in bedrooms.

If I'm not mistaken, it looks like that window is side loaded instead of tilt sash, which I actually prefer. I think it gives a little more glass area.

Thanks for this wonderful video! So I assume that for vinyl windows that are using "full-frame" (new construction) installation method, at the end, the stucco and the edges of the window should still remain water-tight and air-tight (maybe caulk around with Sika construction sealant), and the "only" place that the water should go out, would the bottom weep holes on the window, right? Thanks!
@HoustonWindowExperts5 күн бұрын
What you are referring to sounds like jumping the frame. That's when you leave the existing window frame in place and put a new frame around it. Yes, that is a good way to maintain the water envelope of a home. However, you are going to lose quite a bit of a glass space in that scenario.

Just install three of these - left and right on each - and two (out of the six) are already broken. The gear/belt mechanism is flimsy. It is a toothed belt that runs from the open mechanism Jeff shows on the side down and around gears. If you lift too hard on these open mechanism the belt snaps. Easily. Not sure what it takes to repair or replace this.

No doors are designed as structural components. You would need a header that would span the distance to support the weight of the wall above the door.
