Great work. Look forward to trying your design. To answer your question about the cracker/tassel: it's meant to dissipate the kinetic energy generated by the wave/whip motion traveling through the sling and is usually made from a material that is far more durable than what the sling is woven with. Without it, all the energy is transferred into the end of the sling, which causes wear and potentially breakage.

You should review some of the Survival Archery Systems folding and takedown bows.
@JayhooOutdoorsАй бұрын
I should try one was looking into one awhile back. But the take down recurve seems to be better for shooting and brakes down to the same size basically. The fold up survival bows I’ve definitely always found interesting though and the air bows
@survivalarcherysystemsАй бұрын
The SAS bows are actually quite a bit smaller than a recurve. Probably nearly half the packed size and because everything is straight they can be packed way out of the way. The recurves get in the way of everything and can be a big pain in a pack with other essential gear like sleeping bags, etc. Would you like me to organize you a bow or two from them?
@derekgrizwald3157Ай бұрын
I love all 4 but if I could only have 1 it would be the sling. I'm no expert I've only started recently but I can hit a bucket from 15+ meters and actually find it easier to hit longer shots compared to closer targets. Plus it can't be overstated enough just how fast it can sling rocks in rapid succession in case the first rick misses or doesn't kill immediately.
@JayhooOutdoorsАй бұрын
I’d have to agree and the power a good sized rock 🪨 hits with the speed of the sling. And there is nothing to brake on it

Got the same stove, same model for the same reasons (weight mainly) since I hike where I camp (no car); Trick: I litter the bottom of the stove with little rocks 1-as stated, to "protect" the bottom as much as possible 2-they retain heat 3-no need to carry them as they tend to grow locally wherever you go so you just put them back and that shuts up the anal-retentive glampers "to leave the spot as you found it"
@JayhooOutdoors2 ай бұрын
That’s a good idea with the rocks 👍 Definitely like the weight normally I canoe in to my camp but winter will be hiking. Having something so small and light will open up so many more opportunities for my winter camping

At the hardware store you can buy cheap 6’ 8’ dowels or what ever they call them sand a tapered end and it works great. 👍 Or just find a good stick in the woods and clean it up. That’s the way I go but I’m sure others have some great ideas 💡. Good to keep the point above your head though so you are less likely to fall on it which would be vary bad
@DDDYLN3 ай бұрын
@@JayhooOutdoors I've never owned a Cold Steel Bushman, so I'm unaware of the sheath retention. Is it possible for the sheath to pop off if you take a fall, or is it secured well?

I’m way too damn broken to sleep on the ground anymore… I do it a few times a year just to remember why I pack a light weight cot around 😂 If you are camping on snow pack the tent will be quite a bit closer to the ground and seal up better…. That’s a mixed blessing with a waterproof tent tho because they don’t breathe thru the fabric and you get condensation even with the wood stove blasting away. I have the canvas version of the northgaze and it’s 14lb’s… haven’t even set it up yet… I also have the same stove as you so hopefully it’s up to the task…. She can get chilly in norther Alberta 👍

Wow, very instructive video thank you. Good point (forgive the pun) about the 2 blade vs 3 (or 4) or hypo for a trad bow. I have never considered the fact that the more blades there are, the more energy would get expended for the penetration. I figure the exact math would be interesting... Also, quite cool to see that a 3-pin hunting site does, in fact, work (and quite well, judging by your shooting) for a Sage or similar recurve. I'd be curious as to what distances you set up the pins at (10, 20 and 30?). Anyway, cheers and ty!
@JayhooOutdoors4 ай бұрын
Thank you vary much. I did set them at 10,20,30 yards really probably should go 10,15,20 as that’s kinda the range for a recurve bow but easy enough to judge the 5 yards between the pins and more fun at the range to shoot farther
