I need one that will notify me if someone is 15 feet away (not more), between my house and a carport post of the other side (covering the driveway entrance). I want another sensor between the steps at my back door, so when my pet comes up the steps, I'll know it. I don't want it picking up neighbors walking their dogs (I'm 20 ft. from the street) or wind and the receiver wouldn't be any further than 20 feet away inside. I think this would be too powerful for what I'm looking for, so I'm really asking for advice if anyone knows what I'm looking for. Thanks for showing us you set!
@DaveDrawing2 ай бұрын
These will work if you aim them downward sharply. If you have one by your door, just point it down, and it'll only "see" your dog when it comes to the door. It'll take a little adjusting, but it will work. 🤗

@@DaveDrawing I appreciate you describing that. I decided instead to get a Toucan video doorbell that detects motion as well. I had seen one on a shopping channel and seeing it work, it's best for me. I'm sure the Owls are great for more distance, and I think that's their main advantage, but I didn't want it picking up anything further than like 15 ft. Most people want more distance, not less like me. I also will now have the benefit of viewing my carport on my phone when I'm not there. I hear something at night I can just look at my phone as it has night vision and 2K resolution with no subscription fees like Ring has. It's only available on HSN right now, and after their special ($50 on sale from $200), it will be available on Toucan's website, but it will be higher priced (according to them). For my cat alert to come inside, I'll use a real bell attached to the door. Thanks again!

I'm having great success with my set of four. However I need a "hack" for how to use these in areas with trees and bushes. The wind makes them go off constantly. I am not going to cut down trees but have trimmed them and it worked for the summer when the wind was calmer but now it's October and it's driving me nuts. Can I put a toilet paper roll on it to make like a telescope so it doesnt pick up every little motion?
@DaveDrawing3 ай бұрын
It depends on what you need to cover. If it's something very specific like a gate or door, you can make a "snoot". That's a tube made of whatever material you think best, and attached to the owl so it only "sees" what you want it to see. Kind of a "tunnel vision". If it's a wide area needing coverage, trees may continue to be an issue. Let me know if I can be of any more help!

If you have a bunch of sensors how does the base unit know which one to make a particular sound on?
@DaveDrawing7 ай бұрын
I don't know the electronic details of how it does it, but it does. When setting up the sensors, you just wave a hand in front of the one you're setting, and it dings. Then you use a button on the base unit to cycle through the various sounds. You can have up to 32 sensors, and even add several bases if you want the sounds to come from different areas! 😁

What I'm struggling with now is that one of my fence gates is on the other side of a wooded area because my property line is on the other side of the trees and I had to fence it off due to the new neighbors being trespassers and would be squatters. So now the sensor is going off about 100 times a day due to vegetation movement. I have it strapped to the fence gate facing inwards so they cant see it but my tree branches are moving constantly! Question: I have four transmitters and one base station. Once I set them up, can I move the base station from the outlet in the home office to the outlet in the kitchen without erasing their programming with the transmitters? In other words, once they are programmed, does the inside the house plugged in item need to stay put or can I move it around to where I am in the house or will that erase its connection to the transmitters? And perhaps a better way to put it is if the power goes out in the house, do I need to bring in the transmitters and reprogram them or does it retain its connection and continue working?

Mine worked perfect for a year. Suddenly both of the sensors began to malfunction. OK I misspoke. They only worked PERFECT for a day. They can be set to make different sounds which would be handy. Thar functioned for a day and then they both reverted to the doorbell sound. After that though I got used to it and knew the first ring meant driveway and the second ring they are on the porch. Recently they both began to signal repeatedly though nothing was moving. I took them both down and brought them indoors. I took the batteries out of both then put them back in one and set it facing the wall. After a few seconds it began alerting repeatedly. Removed the batteries and did the same with the other with the same results. Anybody know what is wrong?

@user-be2mr5su1l, I don't think so. Alexa only wakes to these words: "Alexa", "Amazon," "Echo," or "Computer" . This would make it impossible for the phrases the owl can make to activate the Alexa device. Also, Alexa can only use one wake word at a time, so you'd have to say "Back Door" or "Driveway" each time you wanted to use your Alexa.

Well made video. Thank you for that. I am thinking of ordering the same units. I have some question. Do you get lots of false alarms? I don't want the sensor to detect cats or dog , so for that , i wonder by putting the sensor high enough, it will not detect low animals. What do you think? I just want the units to let me know when someone is in my yard or trying to jump my fence. How is the batteries holding up so far? Thank you for your help.
@DaveDrawing Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you found my video helpful. How high you put them isn't so imp;oirtant, because you can pivot the unit up and down once installed. It takes a few tries to get it right, but our driveway cam only triggers for cars, and taller animals like deer. Raccoons and smaller aren't a problem. There will always be a few false alarms, for example a squirel is tiny, but can climb up and pass the sensor. We have security cameras on their own monitor, so we can glance and see if its a car, or not. The battery life is phenominal, a year in now, and still on the original batteries! We added a sensor at the back of our mailbox to let us know when we have mail, it's a good application. Good luck with yours, and let us know how it goes!

@@rejeanpoirier6047 hello again! Yes, after a year of flawless performance, I would definitely buy this system again. I don't believe insects and birds set it off. We do have the occasional false alarm, but not enough to be an issue. As I mentioned, we use this in addition to a camera system, so when we hear the alarm, we can glance at the monitor and see if there's a car in the driveway, or a critter at our feeder, for example.
