Excellent use of sightlines and hiding the back fence of the mammoth habitat! That tall boundary marker looks intriguing, as if it would serve an actual purpose. That greenhouse looks convincingly simple too, though would have to be upscaled for realism. Since you are playing challenge (or sandbox with these settings) do you feel that the amount of food producing stations is manageably low or would it benefit from requiring more facilities to be more realistic with how fast food can be grown?
@dinobob54019 күн бұрын
It's hard to get a handle on how much food production is enough in game, especially with the way the staff operate right now. But you're right, the space given over to production of food in the modules is way too tiny.

The silhouettes outside the first enclosure don’t work well. The doubling of the tusks makes the mammoths look as though they have bizarre loopy growths coming out of their heads!

@dinobob540123 күн бұрын
No animals jump tab this time. Jumping is something the devs have on their to do list, so maybe someday. It''s an open question as to what sort of anti-jumping measures, if any, they will introduce. That said, I imagine those habitats walls have hot wire near their tops (something that would be invisible almost all the time if I bothered to add modular pieces to simulate it.)

Just a question: were their snowy winters in the dinosaur park formation ?
@dinobob5401Ай бұрын
In a 2018 paper, Bamforth and Koppelhus concluded that "According to the Köppen Climate Classification System (Köppen, 1936; Esssenwager, 2001), this places Dinosaur Provincial Park within a ‘mesothermal’ environment classification, defined as a climate in which the temperature during the coldest month is less than 13°C. Subtropical climates (a subdivision of mesothermal climates) are characterized by a temperature range of 6-13°C during the coldest month, and an average temperature greater than 22°C during the warmest month. With a cold month mean temperature of 5.1°C, the paleoenvironment of Dinosaur Provincial Park falls just within this range." They did note that further research would be useful in clarifying a number of matters.

This viewing building is pretty big but you don't notice it so much because the walls from where you approach it is broken up: pretty clever! The habitat definitely looks good in surface area and the lake turned out really nice with the different depths. I think I would have used more greener patches of ground texture to paint around shrubs and trees to not create this large sand expanse. It's equally jarring to me seeing different ground textures between exhibits as seeing vastly different foliage. I will correct you on the size of this species of Camarasaurus: the smallest in game are C. grandis, while the medium variant is C. lentus. This C. supremus is the largest one. It's probably the cheapest way they did alt species since the models don't change proportions. I wonder how noticeable that eventual size difference will be on the baby sauropods though

@dinobob54014 ай бұрын
Yeah, it does. with their talk of separating all the alternative species out into their own thing and the possibility of information screens for each, maybe that will extend to the animals signs. After all, 2 out of 3 Edmontosaurus types in the game do not have the soft tissue crest.

The two-tiered viewing building is nice; it allows for visitors to hide from rain or shadow if they wish to. I'm excited to see everyone building the backstage areas focused more on the logistic side of the game and running a park, but more so if they know how to make it look pretty.!

The Hapi skin looks really good in this sandy beach environment. I find myself indecisive what skins to use for Spinosaurus in particular: despite them all looking great, they seem very much inspired by their physical environment. @dinobob54015 ай бұрын
There are actually three habitats in the video: 1 Muttaburrasaurus and 2 Carcharodontosaurus. How long they took is hard to say as the whole of Port Prehistorique was built with a lot of quick habitats and roughed-out buildings to get the park up to 5 stars; I have been going back to finish out habitats and buildings prior to making videos, so it's hard to know exact times. It's definitely much faster using the PK foliage brush with the curated selections (or making my own by selecting a small range of plants) than Planet Zoo style place them all individually mechanics. In PK I spent a fair bit of time tweaking what the brush puts down both for "necessity" (underwater terrestrial plants are silly) and esthetics.

Yeah I do actually hope the devs will take our feedback over the size of Lambeosaurus: I think it would even make the larger skin even more impressive. On that topic, you must have confused this Chestnut skin with the Cosmic (bluish males, grey females) skin: the latter is inspired by Magnapaulia, being between 5-10% larger on average, but due to individual variation the Chestnut and Equine skin will approach that size too. Setting them next to each other, the difference to Parasaurolophus is rather jarring, but because of its alternate species it would kind of detract from their uniqueness if they were closer to the currently hypothesised average sizes. All three species would end up being very close to the P. jiayinensis size

I bet you had to adjust the path and plaza sizes after you saw the massive amounts of guests. Sure, a five-star dinosaur park would attract thousands of visitors per day but I cannot help but think of the noise in that area if real animals had to live in the middle of the crowds. Not a jab towards enclosure design and park layout, but rather a mechanical challenge to consider from a game perspective as well. I think having animals respond to stress from lack of privacy could be an interesting feature
@dinobob54017 ай бұрын
I had intended a wide plaza/path where the worst bunches of guests clumped but not quite so wide as I went to. The real problem is the guest AI. IRL people don't march straight into a milling clump of other people when the want to get past them; they skirt the clump. Planet Zoo has stressed animals, often crazily so as they continue to stay where the stress impacts them and are too dumb to go to the screened portion of their exhibits. If PK animal stress becomes an issue, a lot of parks would need redesign. If that comes to pass, guests better be able to get around into "deeper" parts of the park to spread out. Right now, for the thousands of guests, very very few get to the furthest exhibits, which is weird because in my parks they are usually where the 5 startanimals hang out.
