Why would anyone buy a Porsche, Audi if these problem are consistent, Porsche should make a car that last like the Toyota, if that ever happen it will be the greatest car ever. Porsche should listen to people. Why would anyone buy the car and get a headache, it does not matter how rich you are .

Some algorithm got this video to me. Viewed Sep 2024, have a 2017 Macan GTS, bought certified used with 5k miles in May 2017. 7.5 years later, not one problem at 83k. 2 recalls complied with, but a true workhorse vehicle. Comfortable, fast, quiet, and very well built. I personally think a video like this provides information on a potential problem, but Porsche builds great cars. Own one and you will understand.

So what is your recommended interval to change engine oil and transmission fluid?
@christianborck
@christianborck 20 күн бұрын
From my experience it is not a camber issue. It's just that the car is driven to much in the lowest suspension setting. The camber is set for medium.
@TopAutomotiveInc
@TopAutomotiveInc 17 күн бұрын
@@christianborck This base model has a fixed ride hight, this suspension is coil-over spring. You’re referring to the pneumatic version. By design the pneumatic suspension will auto lower the vehicle to the lowest setting at highway speeds. The solution is to bring the camber out from -3 to mid -2s. Aggressive negative camber is not necessary for these vehicles, unless you’re going 200 mph. We set our track cars at 3° negative. This is overkill for street cars.

Awesome and thank you for providing real tech information on the failure of the unit. I have a 2013 GTS and it has a bad transfer case. The dealer confirmed that a replacement is needed. Porsche has extended the warranty to 10 years and unlimited mileage but having purchased a 2013 its over the ten years so I am not sure what to do.

Suggest folks go check out Jake Raby explanation at Flat 6 innovations. He has literally written the book on M97 engines (which despite the claim in this video are not Mezger engines as those are reserved for GT3s. This has nothing to do with air filters, but a known issue for 997's is Bore Scoring. Most of this has to do with the cold start up, fuel injectors, and idling before driving.
@TopAutomotiveInc
@TopAutomotiveInc 22 күн бұрын
Jake and I are actually really good friends. This is NOT an M96/96 engine, this is an M1A DFI! Cylinder bore scoring is a broad subject. In the Carolinas, we do not have freezing temperatures, and we do not have the same effects as the vehicles from up north. Best to study up on what can cause bore scoring, including dirty high flow air filters, poor filtration, carbon, ring problems, extended oil change intervals, oil, contamination, leaking fuel injectors, fuel wash, old fuel, extreme cold temperatures, ect. There’s not just one thing that will cause bore scoring, and there are many factors involved. You’re incorrect about mezger engines. Mezger engines for the H2Os were introduced in 2001 for all TURBO / GT2 and GT3 models. The last Turbo model mezger was 2009, and up to 2011 for GT2/GT3. However, continued, on the race GT3 CUP car till the end of 2018. we are a specialized mezger Porsche shop.

I can confirm, if your Panamera had been driving perfectly then all of sudden it goes into limp mode where it’s saying “Transmission fault no R. Drive possible” Change the battery! Your welcome. It’s not the transmission, it’s the damn battery. My panny felt like it was weak on take offs, but once it was moving it was good. Then one day out of the blue the auto start function started prematurely cutting off the car while I was still rolling to a stop. It finally went into limp mode and I had it towed to my house (luckily not to far away). I did some reading, went and purchased a H8 Duralast battery (249.99) and installed and WALA. The car was back to normal.
@therealnewlite
@therealnewlite 14 күн бұрын
Update: The car went back into limp mode after I replaced the old battery. It appears resetting the battery will take it out of limp temporarily, maybe 50-100 miles. I’m pretty sure it’s the gear box sensors at this point which located in the transmission. So, the good thing is you don’t need a new transmission, but the bad part is one will just replace the sensor, they will do the entire gear box.

As a mechanic- even i farm it out. I cant fix them. Too many special tools needed, software. And i can rebuild motors - done alot and do all major work. Dive into some auto trans work. But these Porsche pdk are very complicated. With parts being hard to source/have to retrofit aftermarket parts. Compared yo its cousin VW wich has much simpler dual clutch transmissions. Its gunna be expensive. Even a simple range sensor is crazy expensive on these things and requires splitting apart the transmission.

I'm relatively new to the porsche market but I wonder how they could make a mistake this large if they are touted as some of the greatest engineers. Isn't this just a matter of knowing metal properties. Also is it worth buying one of these cars after the repairs have been made? I guess my real question is how damaging is it to run a car with oil leaks if you constantly top off the oil?

I don't really get the comparison of the macan to the boxter and the cayenne to the 911. The macan handles much better and is faster than the cayenne on tracks. Also the macan has an actual porsche engine and trasmission is pdk.. i think the cayenne uses an audi transmission maybe even engine.

Dude lost me when he said the 911 was a lot better built than a Boxster. Jeff Richardson got a hold of a 981 Boxster to pull apart and compare to a 991 Carerra and the vast majority of the part numbers are coded 991. His video is worth a watch. The cars and engines are assembled on the same production line in the same facility.

interesting but such a powerful engine is almost doomed for tragedy since the engine tuning and power delivery takes a lot of refining. It's like strapping a jet engine and saying it's powerful. The handling and suspension package has to reliability handle such power under all circumstances otherwise you just have a powerful engine and that will rocket the car right into the wall.

You are correct. Everything around it must be built to the same specs, including axles, transmission, which we also do, and big brakes are recommended. Also needs a really really good fire suppression system.

I'm looking to buy the same car, 3.6 v6 (300 hp) Cayenne 2016 with GTS body kit (from factory) Not sure if I'm doing the right decision between X5 or Range Rover (same year) My main concern is maintenance cost. I'm buying that car 28k € in Europe. The car has 75k miles on it and looks new. Note: If maintenance is around 1k per year including oil change I'm definitely down for it.

A well-maintained VR6 Cayenne will only have one issue - transfer box. And usually Porsche is fairly willing to exchange it for free or at a significant discount. Also, Sport Design (what you call GTS) package is very rare for VR6 so I encourage you to go for it
