Hy , i saw all your Videos and i am impressed how slow u get your engines to run. i am currently Building the 1885 otto from the Emporium and i wonder if u might have any tips to get a nice slow runner. the flywheel is fairly heavy , so i think i can get enough momentum stored so it could be a possible slow runner. Any Tips would be apreciated .

Outstanding diorama! it is amazing that coal firing works this well in such a small scale. It never gets old watching these beautiful steam models.

That’s just great, do the pipes get too dirty? Thanks. Best vid I have seen in ages.
@nathanamosengineering1836 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately yes they do get dirty like any coal fired boiler but it's easy to remove the boiler for cleaning when needed.

You could theoretically also heat your house with the radiator loop. Very useful because its very quiet and makes electricity.

No I have only built one and it is not for sale. Glad you like it though.:)

A great video - thanks for sharing. Old efficient tech finding a way to act as backup power supply for all kinds of uses (ie charging cell phones and more) powered by a 12 Volt generator. Super clever and clean design too. ..

This is absolutely amazing. I love the scale running speed too. So many model engines run too fast, but this is spot on!! Great work.
@nathanamosengineering18364 жыл бұрын
Thanks, It takes a lot of modifications to get a model engine to run nice and slow. Many engines are designed without sufficient understanding how carburettors and gas flow scale, with many choosing sizes that are way too big to produce a fast moving well mixed charge reaching the cylinder. Air and liquid fuel just cant be scaled down, so keeping gas flow up is crucial. Also the geometry of bore and stroke work against slow running. Excessive compression and flywheels that can not store enough inertia compound the problems too. Every engine I build I make changes from the start as its obvious that it would run poor with some of the suggested dimensions.

Great running engine . Good job!
@nathanamosengineering18364 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but it took ages to get it to produce any decent usable power and still be flexible to run slow when required . Making the volt meeter was a challenge too. all worth it though.

That's very smart! Wish my Lister was that quiet and started so easily. I like your home-made rad too, does that keep it cool enough? If my cat lived there I guarantee it would put its tail in that open pulley within 30 seconds :)
@nathanamosengineering18364 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it. Applying acoustic engineering principles helped me quieten it down lots whilst easy starting is achieved by having an excellent magneto and fuel mixture set up. So many people put up with poor running and starting engines with week magnetos and knackered engines. The home made radiator was not quite big enough do dissipate all the heat sadly whilst mounted in the shed. Cats, dogs, children and engines should never be mixed as it can make a bloody mess :-D.

The most amazing fact about most of the Listers, is that you can hear the alternator over them, working at full chat.

What makes this setup so smooth and quiet? Is it because the engine is water cooled ? And/or low compression ? Please tell.

Low RPM, Thick cast iron block, water jacket and external exhaust.
@TheFlyingBusman4 жыл бұрын
Starts and runs very well. Open top exhaust is asking for trouble though. Get a flap on there. Otherwise it’s a nice setup.
@nathanamosengineering18364 жыл бұрын
At the bottom of the pipe is a tee with a drain hole to drain out any water or condensate. At the back of the shed was a silencer with a capacity of 25 liters also with a drain hole. I'm far from a short sighted, stupid or an idiot. I design and engineer things carefully and think of all possible issues before starting. The exhaust on this is almost totally condensing due to the large capacity hence ample drainage. It was done to avoid having to have a flap as they make noise of their own don't they. Thanks for your assumption and concerns though lol. I say this in the nicest possible way..... Best not make assumptions. Much better to ask how water, rain or condensate is prevented from collecting or building up rather than assuming. Kind regards etc.
