Im in the wrong state 😅😅 i keep seeing all these subs say they make 200+ a day. Wherr im at its only $110. If you get a long term position, 24+ days, its like 170 or 180 something 😭😭 and you are expected to actually teach (minimum of course but still)

I do want to sub in your school district. I subbed last fall in my school district, I made $17/hour, no benefits. I ended up going back to full time teaching because I couldn't afford aftercare for my kids so I could work, as a sub I was a contractor and not an employee of the district.

Man, $250 a day subbing is insane. In my district it's only $95 a day with a bachelor's degree, and the only jobs available are for elementary and middle school

I’m a certified teacher. Hate subbing. Kids immediately disregard you and the class when they realize their teacher isn’t there. You’re being tested by kids all day and even teachers! Both groups try to bully you in some way. I didn’t set up the room myself so I usually hate it!! I don’t know where anything is and it feels very dysfunctional. Teachers leave crappy plans, tech plans, or give stupid info but not what you really need. This is probably because I’m a teacher but it sucks honestly. I do it for extra cash when I have time off from my main job. The pay is also horrendous for what I’m expected to do, $20 a day where I am.

Subbing is easy. I do it full time. There is always work available. My rules are simple. Be respectful and get your work done. As long as they get all the work done on the sub plans, the rest of the day/period they can have free. I can also work whenever I want. No bringing work home. No meetings. No lesson planning. Show up. Follow the plans. go home.

Subbing is great unless you get a class with a teachers aide who can't get the hint that you dont want to do small talk with them....

You took the time to plan & edit this video & didn't find your content inappropriate at all? Did you ever pause and think about what kind of message you were sending? I agree with many people here that this video was insulting. You're supposedly an educated person & you're basically saying you're lazy & not putting in the work (and worse letting everyone know). This isn't professional & I don't think parents, teachers, etc. would be happy to know this is how you view & treat your job. Many districts would frown upon this sort of thing. Some even have policies about not using your phone when inappropriate to & to be careful about what you say about your district etc. You're also not transparent in that this only relates to your choice of working at high schools & that how they operate makes it for an easy day for you. This video isn't a good review of what it's like to substitute teach in a general sense. Your specific experiences are very limited & you're just seeking something easy instead of something that will be rewarding, and challenging for you to help you grow and learn from a variety of experiences. You aren't in this for the right reasons if you're only seeking out good pay for little work.

Don't feel bad, we all start from renting in the bay area. Eventually we will own something here as long as you both work. I"m speaking from my experience.

You are not doing the job properly if this is a typical day. Try actually teaching and do laps of the class to check they all understand and are on task. Sort out conflicts and problems. Give feedback to the teacher and prepare for the next lesson ahead of time. Check rolls, the school email and messages. And do make sure the room is tidy at the end. This is misrepresented and of course there will be no sick or holiday pay. ☑️

You are paying a huge amount for rent, i know that we live in a dump of a house in Australia and we pay in bottom 15% of renting in our area. But with $200k you should have enough for a deposit for a house in 2 to 3 years.

Northern Cal is to expensive I’m single, earn $180k year, have a 3bed/2 bath in a full acre at $2.6 month. $280 car note & maybe $$115 groceries weekly. etc, etc I have ZERO credit card debt

Ohh. high school subbing is not bad.But I sub for all grade levels. It's not boring, and it's really hard and tiresome. I like being able to help teachers. I feel like alot of teachers don't get the support they need. And at least I can support many of them.

It has been my thought in the last couple years, I paid off my house and now I am thinking to sell it and put it into investment while renting. I tried to judge is it beneficial or not. I am not sure if this spreadsheet suitable to tell me what to do.

The whole reasoning is flawed because while a bank will lend you money to buy a house, they won't lend you money to put into an index fund, because they don't have a collateral to cease easily if you don't pay back. One of the primary reasons buying a house is worth it is because of that leverage effect

I have some observations I'd like to share :D The cost of property taxes and insurance appreciate proportionally to the value of the house which is 5% not the inflation rate in your example. Just this is enough of a deal breaker for me. But then the example assumes that you will acquire new furniture once at the beginning and keep the same furniture for 30 years. The maintenance estimates are very conservative. In the example the total budget for maintenance over 30 years is 18,765$. What if you have children and need to repurpose a room, or want to spend on improvements like adding a pool, remodeling your kitchen, renovating anything? 30 years is a long time, look at your spending habits today and tell me seriously that you won't bust your 24k budget (initial furniture + maintenance) in 30 years. Lastly, the example accounts for the monetary cost of maintenance but does not account for the time cost of maintaining the house which is a third deal breaker IMO For the rent side, I guess we must be looking at different sources, I've found sources saying the average return of the s&p is 9% or more, your 7% estimate is pretty conservative Anyway thanks again for the video :)

Subbing was awesome while I was in college b/c I could get all my homework/assignments done during the school day and relax when I got off. I would absolutely hate to do it now, I would be bored out of my mind 😖

Where are you substitute teaching? i don't believe this.

I wanted to be a math teacher but school officials, particularly the DOE, discouraged me from chasing my dream. I also recall CUNY guidance counselors discouraging me from pursuing my academic objectives. This was all done in an effort to keep certain minorities from reaching success and job security. So, I did others things with my life. Now at 59 years old with three college degrees, I find myself working as a security guard making peanuts for a living in a dead-end job. How about that for a story? Note: I also worked as a sub teacher in NYC for 8 years (2000-2008).

My experience in HS & Middle school were absolutely not just sitting at the desk. The kids are not even reasonable quiet which is all I ask. I can’t have the noise level so high it can be heard in the hallway. Also, they don’t want to stay in their seats. I’ve had boys who insisted on “sparring” during class & refused to sit down. Many kids are mean bullies who are quite intimidating. Some are bigger than me which is extremely intimidating. Aside from the terrible pay (depending on where you live) the only benefit is the schedule. It helps that I am already married.
