Still a handy shortcut, For when the Northern half of the Beenleigh/Gold Coast line is under maintenance, Which is possibly what was seen in this video, Airport and Ferny Grove going North, Gold Coast and Beenleigh going South! And of course still a major freight corridor.

This line has quite some history. It was opened in 1889 and the section from Lota to Cleveland was closed in October 1960 and reopened on almost the exact same alignment in October 1987. It also has a dual gauge freight line to the Port Of Brisbane at Fisherman Islands running parallel that was federally funded under the Keating Government's 'One Nation' rail infrastructure package costing 83,000,000 dollars although opened way behind schedule in February 1997. Many of the adjacent narrow gauge trestle bridges dating from 1889 got upgraded in the process.
@QueenslandTrains1012 ай бұрын
Yeah I also like how the Cleveland line alternates from single track to double track between Manly and Cleveland with Birkdlale and Ormiston stations having only one platform
@RangaTurk2 ай бұрын
@@QueenslandTrains101 I haven't checked that out but the line is state of the art compared to what existed before October 1960. Funny enough a 2000 class railmotor service began to Cleveland one week before closure. Talk about short-sighted. Not many remember but there used to be some sort of level crossing at the Paxton Street corner going towards Cleveland Point back in the 1990s. If not Paxton Street it would be Station Street the next one down.

Once the swimming center is built on the site of the former Roma Street railway yards and the Olympic Stadium is built at Victoria Park things will be way more electric. Roma Street Station always has a more Central Station feel this time of the week.

A bygone era is what you could say this is - that was what I grew up with, and although I regard the station to be at least fifty times better than it was before right after receiving its accessibility upgrade, I cannot help but to feel a bit nostalgic about how it used to look as a little boy compared to when I enter my 20s as of now. Oh gosh, that *ordinary* staircase really played with my emotions as a little child. 😅😂 (even when I matured more as a teenager, I still was preferring to cross the train tracks at the level crossing) Thank goodness as well that they kept the original stationmaster building which previously sold the tickets, I definitely would had considered a shame to see it go, although I really would just like to seeing it actually being used for something rather than just sitting there more like a piece of artwork rather than anything else - but yes, I do know that that building is heritage listed.
