What all these sci-fi stories have taught me is that if a true Sci-fi AI ever asks me if it has a soul, the absolute wrong answer is "no." ...idk what the *right* answer is. But I aint saying 'no.'

I think the confusing point is that organic kept creating robotic slave labor, and the leviathan AI mathematically calculated and deduced that no matter what synthetics would destroy organics and no matter what organics would at some point get lazy and create machines for slave labor that would just in turn destroy them. As ridiculous of a solution as it is, the reapers idea was simply to just find whatever organic life, accelerate to a certain level of brain power and then go and assimilate it converting it to the reapers to then bring it beyond the galaxy to live in a different world or realm or galaxy prolly. In short the reapers were created to prevent organics from creating something that would destroy themselves. But the reapers got so impatient and annoyed that they just decided they were gonna convert the organic life into new hyper intelligent beings, the reapers. AKA technically the synthesis ending, if there’s no differentiation between organics and synthetics and they all just one then it’s a lot harder for there to be arrogance in a species. As messed up as the reapers are being, it’s highly obvious that whatever life they’re living out in dark space is one of serenity that no mortal being can truly comprehend. Also the intelligence of such a massive grand scale AI would be capable of carrying insane mathematical equations and making ridiculous predictions. This then leads to the next argument if the organics are not gonna create something to in turn destroy themselves, they’re gonna create something that will destroy synthetics. Which is where the reapers become unnerved and more human. No matter what the humans or organics are just gonna create some ridiculous weapon of mass destruction. So again if organics are gonna create synthetics that will destroy organics, then organics are also gonna create something that will in turn and inevitably destroy the synthetics right back. Does anyone ever wonder why the crucible has just been gradually improved upon with each cycle but never just destroyed by the reapers, why would the reapers let such a device be untouched. Anyone would prolly assume that something like the reapers would immediately destroy the crucible when the first cycle created it, but no they just left it as it was. This because this was not something the reapers were actually created to predict or deal with. It adds another factor to the equation. Since the reapers actually see the organics adding something new to the equation a different solution they become curious, but they still have the job of preventing organics from creating something that will wipe out sentient life. And they still have a goal to assimilate each new species and its knowledge into the higher master race. The intelligence wants diversity in its race. It’s also arguable that the reapers were just waiting for each species to complete the crucible but each species reached a point where they no longer had the brain power to finish the crucible at which point the reapers would then assimilate them. The mass relays are there to accelerate the organics brain power and comprehension, because the intelligence wants the master race to be THAT INTELLIGENT, united but still sharing the ideas of individuality. If you pay attention it’s pretty clear that star child actually wanted shepherd to reach the crucible, when it figured out that this was the cycle that would finish the crucible. The catalyst could’ve easily had Shepherd killed the whole time or had the crucible destroyed. This brings the next point, the reapers hate arrogance and shepherd is one of the most versatile and level headed people through out the game, the reapers need an organic for all three options, but Anderson and illusive man would’ve already had their sights set on their options, where shepherd actually hears out the catalyst and lets the catalyst explain the options. The catalyst and reapers actually like the crucible because it is the humans actually building a real counter measure to another thing that would actually destroy them way quicker. To further explain lol, the reapers gruesome method of destroying life and assimilating it pushed organics so far beyond that they just thought of building a fail safe, the intelligence did not deem organics smart enough to do this, it only had in its programming that organics would inevitably create robots that would just destroy organic life. As for why the reapers are still literally tryna destroy organics in this cycle is because they have actually already created something that’s gonna destroy them (the geth) but shepherd being a rare variable who ends up putting up strange and good fight puts the reapers off balance. The reapers are not convinced that this cycle will finish it, but shepherd with all his delays and tactical expertise just once again kinda ends up being rare surprise for them. To be fair it is arguable that the reapers are testing shepherd ruthlessly for they have high standards for the life they absorb. In short shepherd but not many others is another thing that does get the reapers thinking. It’s basically an AI that’s pissed off at its creators for creating something so dangerous, hence why it even destroys the leviathans, but the leviathans who created them don’t really question their constructs beliefs and that’s why they are in hiding despite actually being able to put up a simple fight to the reapers. The AI punishes its creators for creating something that can destroy them. Since the AI believes that synthetics will destroy organics, the AI is also as a synthetic construct gonna compute that he/she itself is also gonna inevitably destroy organics. So what’s the solution, accelerate organics to their prime levels of intelligence then convert them into the higher race where all will be on the same page, but also all will be different in terms of knowledge and things to ponder among each other. To be fair the synthesis ending is already what’s happening because the reapers are just a combination of synthetic and organics. At the same time regardless of extinction to all life, cells and molecules will always reconstruct and form new life, slow as it may be life always recreates itself through natural scientific and messy processes. The reapers aren’t exactly tryna destroy life, they are trying to convert it, but their gruesome approach is not at all appealing to us organics and has also provoked fierce resistance. The reapers leave the crucible untouched because they see it as organics actually conjuring up another solution to the problem they were built to create, but the reapers still follow suit in their function to convert organics and construct their master race. BioWare did a really shitty job conveying and explaining this them though, and it’s a pretty ridiculous concept. But it shows how ridiculous and freightening the logic and quantum computing power of an AI can be. Also what is the limit of AI. The AI will always become smarter then its creators, but the smarter the creator the ever more so infinitely intelligent the AI is gonna be for it is still the product and intelligence of its creators. A more intelligent race is just gonna create a more dangerous AI or simply something more dangerous. So look at an AI created by humans, then look at one made by leviathans. Sorry for long comment happy to break it down more for anyone confused or has any questions.

You know what's ironic That one little line "no data available" implies much, a complicated emotional response that not even all one thousand programmes inside legion can fully understand and yet the guy writing legion did not care for it, he did not want to do the whole "i wanna be a real boy" or "organics are inferior and must die" route with the character but higher ups thought the N7 on his chest was rad and kinda forced it through, so the writer could dial it down as much he could

I always figured the Geth were the ones who started the Reaper Invasion. We know that they were coming but the Geth were the front door for them. From Legions dialogues i gathered that the Geth reached out to Reapers for help against their War with Quarians, but soon were hacked/indoctrinated to spy on the galaxy until Reapers had enough info on how to properly invade. I feel without the geth, the reapers would have been easier to deal with.

That end could have been better scripted. Imagine the cycle continued, but an Asary-like discovered early on the truth about the reaper. Maybe Liara herself and her descendants started it. They could raise other civilizations as they see fit, tell the story about what happened in our cycle, share the knowledge instead of hiding it. That new cycle would have had thousands of years to prepare. We could change the Crucible energy, we could change the mass effect workings. In another words, evolved in a different path designed by the Reapers. We could wipe them the next time they come. We could just neutralized them for whatever reason. I like the Ascension of Stargate series. We just overcome the synthetic-organic duality. Or the organic ending of Foundation. Inorganic things also live, in a way synthetic is irrelevant. We would become a living Galaxy.

Everyone misses the point completely. Refusal is the only ending that fits with Paragon Shepard, even if you think that sounds ironic. When the hell did the refusal ending destroy all life organic and synthetic? The Catalyst stated itself that the cycle will continue. Even if you take the post credits scene to be 10 cycles from ME3, around 500,000 years from the ending, the end result is still organics winning with tens of billions of years of existence left to experience. I don't know if you know this but the dinosaurs went extinct 65 _million_ years ago, 1300 cycles ago. 50,000 years is a blink of an eye from a cosmic perspective. Leviathans could still be primitive when dinosaurs were the dominant large creatures on Earth. Organic life is just a random chance of self-replicating chemical reactions. The Andromeda galaxy will collide with the Milky Way over 4 billion years from now. That's at least 80,000 cycles from Shepard. Eighty thousand fucking cycles. The Milkdromeda collision will take place as much time from now as it did to the birth of our own solar system, >4 billion years. If you have my imagination, and take the post-credits scene to be the descendants of Shepard and Liara's descendant less than 10 cycles from the current, that leaves organics and synthetics the freedom to choose their own destiny for tens of thousands of cycles at the very least, except there will be no Reapers. Yes, there will be conflict. Conflict is a part of life, even without cosmic-terror level threats. Shepard managed to make peace with the Quarians and the Geth, who's to say it can't happen in the future? Lore-wise itself, a sentient species can develop technology independent from Reaper tech, therefore maintaining independence. Who's to say some far distant civilization couldn't make their own interstellar tech many years from now? Refusal is an ending that only makes sense if you're at the very least scientifically literate outside the lore. Once you dig deeper into the science, it makes a lot more sense, and maybe the only decision that makes sense in the long-term.
