If you would've got some bacon and antibiotics and documented it all, I'd feel like i was watching the craziest KZbin video in existence.

Could the central tower be a sound detector? When a specific sound vibration pattern from, say, an animal vibrated the egg sack, it would be beneficial to hatch then? For example if a bird species that ate the spiders' predators was in the area, it's song would trigger the hatching. And the fence would provide extra protection. Idk if such a birth mechanism is possible though, maybe in the spiderlings' neurons. Edit: Humming birds eat ants so it's wings might be the cue.

When I was a kid my family lived outside of town on a farm in Iowa. I woke up one morning to see a tree in the yard was covered in Monarchs. It was a cool thing to see. I went out to look closer. It was really something to see. I had to go in for breakfast and when I came back out they were all gone but at least I got to see them. I’ll never forget that morning…

Why did you remove it instantly? Seems dumb to not observe it in its natural place, considernig it is so rare in the first place, and the hatched spiders never made it to adulthood til now? Oh well. Im not a biologist, it just seems dumb

Won't you be able to extract DNA from the structure itself? It is technically a dried out form of body fluid from the spider ... ?

The Pastor at my church shared this video in her weekly written message to us and I am so grateful she did. Wow. This is one of the most astonishingly beautiful things I have ever seen. Wow. Thank you for respectfully capturing and sharing this Great Monarch Migration with us all. God is amazing. Beyond amazing.
