I've proposed the thought that Odin and Loki can be viewed as the soul and the brain. With Loki tricking, deceiving, and serving the ego.

I do believe Odin can take the shape of a man. Hence the stories like the battle against the Vanir and the Æsir. Or the killing of Ymir. Odin sacrificing his eye into a well and hanging himself on a tree and stabbing himself with a spear. But I do not believe he was human like us. There are stories of people who have dreamt of seeing Odin in the form of a man and hearing his voice but this doesn't change my idea

Did you spend time living in the US, or watch lots of American movies and television? When speaking English, you have a perfect American accent, which I've found is unusual for Norwegians, and really for Scandinavians generally, even though they are known for their mastery of English. My go-to accent example is Magnus Carlsen, who speaks nearly perfect English, but with a dinstinct accent and a slightly halting cadence at times.

I2 is a bit more complicated than I1. A lot of people will tell you I2 is Baltic or dinaric, but this isn’t exactly true. For example my I21b1 formerly I2a2a snow 6433 is Germanic. If you research the distribution of it, it will be all England, Germany and Sweden.

I think recently due to more and more evidence being uncovered that some historians are considering Frisian as Vikings as well as how close they were with Denmark etc. It depends on the broader definition of Vikings. Like the Frisian were Vikings and raided Britain some 200 years before the Scandinavian Vikings emerged followed suit and throughout the era maintained ties and commerce with Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia. Not exactly sure about the current academic literature though.

Hmmm.. I think these laws are synonyms. Gate, Fence/border etc can be a spiritual gate or fence/border. Not an actual door to the house or fence in the garden.

Another of many examples of how bad my education was; I went to a Christian school for 10yrs and not once did I ever hear of or celebrate Lammas as a Christian holliday. I never heard of it until I read a book on Saxon Witchcraft. LOL

There are some stone or bronze statues of the gods scattered throughout Europe. But they were created long after Christianity came in. I know Germany has one of Odin with his wolves, a statue of Thor riding his chariot is also somewhere in the north. Not idols per se, but still.

Thank you. The foundation of my Spiritual Maintenance is from teachings that exhist from ancient Hindu philosophy. I started a Spiritual path through a 12 step program in 1988. Through historical evidence I traced my ancestors to England then to Denmark. I am still learning the ways and traditions of my Scandinavian peoples and the Magna Getmania tribes. I have evolved into the Pagan rites and Cultures embedded in my DNA.

Odin was father christmas. The House-God - Hus-tomten was actually more accepted and a replacer for the Julbock due to the church. Christianity made every pagan symbol that could not be integrated into christian tradition the symbols of satan. The snake of wisdom, The wise-old lady became satans handymen, Her symbol the pentagram became the symbol of Satan, Thors goats, the Julbock became the face of Satan, Frejas black cats became the cat of the witch and bad luck. Even Jultomten got ridiculed. In Sweden we say "Tomtar på loftet" about someone we deem crazy. But Lucia and Jultomten could be associated with Lucia in Italy, the christian saint and S:t Nicolaus.

This is something of great interest to me, I'm a wood carver, and I've been interested in Tiki carving so have researched much of Polynesia and Melanesia, but I'm also very interested in Ancient Cultures and Religions like Hinduism (I'm currently reading the Tibetan Book of the Dead), I've seen many pyramids in Mexico and have been to the Shanghai Museum, also the American Indian totems and gods, and far beyond our "Recorded History". One thing I've noticed is just how connected everything is through the world, through out time, it's made me question this "civilized" society we have created as something superior.

These "gnostic" or mind-spirit-attuning traditions go clear back to shamanic practices. We pick up (and generally later discard when it has served its purpose) the feather, the horn, the bone, the stone, etc, not because it IS a divine object, but because we use it to link to the World Spirit of the creature or place it came from and relates to. These "fetishes" are more useful and necessary to focus the heart of the young and less advanced, until the communion of Spirit is an inherent part of the practitioner. It's also a way to form temporary relationships with things that are NOT in-built/invoked like our long-term allies/friends are. I do not carry a bluejay aspect normally, but for a while a jay feather may help translate its lessons or bargains without disrupting the balance of my other invocations. Ultimately, it is with the very creatures and places themselves that the magic is found. Of course, many practitioners find such items useful as theatrical props for ceremonial purposes, or to evoke wonder in the people who are less aware of the true reality. These items are also a way for their host Spirit to reach out to us, to call for our attention, and so we may carry them a while as that communication unfolds. It's like one african shaman told researchers from Britain: "The god does not live ON the mountain. The god IS the mountain." The magic is inherent in Nature herself, in systems and kinds. Items and artifacts are a means to an end, a way to initiate a bridge among pathways, nothing more. Once a given pathworking is complete, whatever relics may have been involved are just another stone, just another bone, just another thing not worth its weight to carry. I've found this attitude is baffling to many "occult" practitioners who were surprised that I had simply discarded items that they had thought held great power. For one who already knows the way, a map is irrelevant to navigation. The best compass is the ability to ask the right questions, and to listen for the answers that matter.

Thank you. Most words are important enough to me to research. Their origins and etymology. Also as dictionaries become radicalized by governments for a variety of reasons perhaps religious influence definitions change, some are removed and/or replaced. The word "worship" comes from the Old English word weordhscipe, which means "worthiness" or "meritoriousness". Weordhscipe is made up of weorth meaning "worth, worthy" and -scipe meaning "-ship (quality, condition) In the sense of giving, at its simplest, value to something. The Greek word for worship is proskuneo, which is pronounced "pros-koo-neh'-o". It means "to kneel before God" or "to kiss". In ancient Greek culture, it referred to showing devotion and reverence to God through kneeling, bowing, or drawing. Proskuneo is associated with showing profound reverence and submission to someone. Some scholars believe the word comes from the idea of a dog licking its master's hand. So the figurine of Odin on my prayer table denotes a being, a deity that exists which I value and is worthy to be recognized. Every morning I ask Odin to guide my thoughts and actions, to help me perhaps in a specific area and I ask for the protection of Thor also although his figure is not represented on my prayer table. The figurine of Odin has in front of it a likeness of a Viking Longship where a candle is lit and placed in the middle of the ship. I also placed a medallion of Hugin and Munin along with a figurine of a wolf to honor my Danish Warrior ancestors. Behind my home in the woods I built a Sacred Grove next to a Sacred Creek to honor my ancestors as well. Johan
