After the 26Feb93 and 11Sep01 attacks, I quit that world and entered into FMA. The stick became my medicine. This particular video demo I watched thousands and thousands of times over training to be the very best I could be. My sincere gratitude and thanks to Eric.

My teacher, David Wink, another big guy (6'4") was Eric's main training partner and is also phenomenally powerful and fluid with all weapons including stick obviously. We trained in full contact sparring Ala dog brothers when I was an undergrad and he was a postdoc at MIT. He is now a director and senior investigator at NIH. I was blessed to train under Dave and hope to meet Eric one day. I've heard alot of war stories when they both trained under Geand Tuhon Leo Gaje together with other exceptional martial artists like Tom Bisio and Bill McGrath. What a golden era that must've been with all that collective talent training together!

This stuff just doesn't really work. I mean, everyone is just running at him, putting their hands out, and letting him throw them. There's no real intention to attack, even considering that this is practice. If it did work, I'm sure we would've seen at least one decent UFC competitor use it by now.

aikido is based on love, it based on spiritual forces,the 7th dans+ who excel at it are aware of these spiritual forces at work,thats why they excelled to 7th dan, you are meant to back down at all costs to fight and not fight for "money or ego or show". This is harmony with the universe the ones who truly excel at aikido (7th 8th 9th dan) are very aware of this therefore cannot accept a fight, YOU have to attack them FIRST it is the only way to make them fight, a average aikido pracctioner is noot aware of this universal love or spiritual forces and therefore they do not excel and would get beat,its spiritual harmony in the movements.
@misterguy232910 жыл бұрын
Jack Howard "aikido is based on love, it based on spiritual forces" No, it isn't. It's based on joint manipulations and angular momentum. "you are meant to back down at all costs to fight and not fight for money or ego or show" That's a load of bullshit. Morihei Ueshiba fought for money in the Japanese army, and he trained Japanese soldiers. In addition, stories within Aikido mythology feature him doing things like defeating Kendo champions without a sword. Aside from these stories being unverifiable bullshit, there is no reason to defeat an armed sport player without your own sword other than to boost your ego or to destroy theirs (via humiliation). So, no, the aversion to competition is a coverup for the fact that they can't win. "7th dans+ who excel at it are aware of these spiritual forces at work,thats why they excelled to 7th dan" That's not why they "excelled" to whatever rank. Rank is meaningless. It's given out by other Aikido people, and no external test of skill exists. It's not like you have to show that you can defend yourself against a 6th dan Kyokushinkai attacker using your Aikido, and he's motivated to defeat you. You demonstrate moves on COMPLIANT partners, most likely your own students (since you obviously want to rehearse before your demonstration, and already you see them regularly), and if your stuff looks good, the masters promote you. At no point do you ever show your moves against non-compliant people.

Mister Guy when he fought in the army that was before his enlightenment, he realized that theultimate way was no true winner, as in he didnt break anyones jaw or arm or ko them, there own energy did it,the whole thing is based on gods love and harmony with the universe. Seagal surpassed the other japanese guys because he took intrest in the spiritual side which people didnt believe are real anyway.
@misterguy232910 жыл бұрын
Jack Howard "the whole thing is based on gods love and harmony with the universe" No, it is not. It's based on joint manipulations and angular momentum. This love crap is fluff and mystical-sounding bullshit that doesn't have anything to do with the reality of the situation. This is a set of combat techniques designed to win fights in a certain way. It happens not to work very well. "Seagal surpassed the other japanese guys because he took intrest in the spiritual side which people didnt believe are real anyway." No, he surpassed them because he did such better wrist locks and shit that they absolutely could not deny his superior skill, despite the extreme racism that is present in that culture. It had nothing to do with "spiritual" nonsense. "when he fought in the army that was before his enlightenment" I don't care what rationale you use, the fact is that the guy who founded it killed people while fighting for a soldier's wage. And the fact remains that nobody trained in Aikido has proven himself a competent fighter, so non-violence and spiritual nonsense is used to mask the fact that the techniques and training methods (mainly the training methods) are highly ineffective compared to other martial arts.

Mister Guy yes he fought in the war he was serving his country and he was young... In 1925, Ueshiba reportedly defeated an aggressive naval officer's bokken (wooden katana) without hurting the man. He then walked to his garden and experienced something significant- "..."I felt the universe suddenly quake, and that a golden spirit sprang up from the ground, veiled my body, and changed my body into a golden one. At the same time my body became light. I was able to understand the whispering of the birds, and was clearly aware of the mind of God, the creator of the universe. At that moment I was enlightened: the source of budo is God's love - the spirit of loving protection for all beings ... Budo is not the felling of an opponent by force; nor is it a tool to lead the world to destruction with arms. True Budo is to accept the spirit of the universe, keep the peace of the world, correctly produce, protect and cultivate all beings in nature."

Seagal can fight but this demonstration is ridiculous and doesn't simulate what would happen in a real street fight. Even an experienced fighter will usually be overwhelmed by more than one opponent by virtue of being outnumbered. A couple of hard nosed street guys that gang up on someone will bumrush the individual, grab him, and pull the individual to the ground to pound him out. This is simply what happens in most street fights.

Ueshiba sparred against other styles to attain his level didn't he? So why shouldn't we Aikidoists spar full contact against other effective styles like wrestling? I think that if we don't, we are only diluting our training to some shadow of what the original art was, something that is not only effective against Aikido, but also boxing, bjj and wrestling.
@patrik79a12 жыл бұрын
and thats exactly the point... not saying that self development isn´t possible with other arts... Maybe the essence of aikido isn´t even possible to attain. Maybe it´s an Ism just like different politacle ideals, but maybe, just maybe it´s an ideal to strive for?

No its not bullshit but its not practical not saying its useless but there are far far better or I should say more practical martial arts out there. But whatever floats your boat I guess. Bruce Lee blew the lid off that stuff years ago. You would learn a lot more practical stuff and become a much tougher, better fighter from something like boxing. We are not samurai`s we dont need that stuff. However its likely that learning aikido would make you a better person then boxing would-
@patrik79a12 жыл бұрын
as have I - and so far i´m not hurt - i did get the chanse to go home after being attacked, and i thank aikido for it... Not saying there aren´t problems with the art, or difficulties, but to think it´s bullshit just from watching KZbin is weird to me... furthermore. haven´t had ONE incident in 15 years where I, or my teachers couldn´t handle - mostly guys - coming to the dojo to test us... but im guessing that doenst count???

LOL, um no. Aikido is nonsense, as demonstrated by this video. The 'attackers' were throwing themselves. Not being thrown by con man seagal. All MA are NOT effective. Wing Chun and Aikido have NEVER been shown to be effective in a real fight. I dare you to find video to prove me wrong.

I have been in dozens of fights and not once have somebody rushed me like a zombie with their arms out like that i wish they would, aikido is a poor martial art and not practical in modern times. look at how many people in the ufc use it, none why do you think that is? No joint manipulation? Wrong its just not practical. And seagal is a joke gene lebell an old man, choked him out and made him piss his pants for real. Seagal claims he taught anderson silva how to kick what a bullshitter.

@Novarg07 - your argument is based on pure conjecture. It was already proved which is the most effective self defence system. Gracie Jiu Jitsu proved itself over and over and over again.
@Novarg0713 жыл бұрын
@acquiesce100 I don't think that even a very good BJJ fighter would stand a change against Masutatsu Oyama. And Aikido can be very effective. The only thing is that it requires a lot more training than some other martial arts. P.S. best for self defense is ofc. Russian Combat Sambo :)
@girtrute13 жыл бұрын
@acquiesce100 bjj is the best for sports fighting, there were rules even in the dojo fights. But other martial arts teach bjj but also eye gaulging,small join minipulation and bone density strengthing,your not even allowed to chop to the throat. And didnt sakuraba own all the gracies. but theres plenty times in ufc matches where he could have been eye gualged.
@acquiesce10013 жыл бұрын
Aikido has it's own appeal but stop pretending it is something more than it is. I love Aikido but I am also a realist and when you deal with a good BJJ fighter it has no use against it. It's a fact. I know its sad but that is life.
@acquiesce10013 жыл бұрын
@allosavros21 - Look dude - I have done Aikido since 1996 and I have done BJJ for 3 years. Stop coming out with all this crap about cages and rules. MMA is based on Gracie Jiu Jitsu and from a self defence system Gracie Jiu Jitsu is unbeatable and it was proven over and over again. Go and look at the first UFC when it was style vs style and look at Rickson Gracies fights with brawlers. It is there for everyone to see You have no idea what it is like to go up against a good BJJ fighter.

@TheBigDead0ne In boxing they continue only if the fighter can stand and the doctor allows it. In boxing you stop when someone falls - in mma you keep going and they HAVE to stop it because otherwise they would die. In Aikido and boxing they don't need to stop because there is a risk of someone dying...
