I’ve kept bettas for decades, here’s my hints; 1; they appreciate as much tank space as any other fish, they are intelligent, inquisitive, have their own personalities, no two bettas are the same, recognize and bond with their keeper, and are at their best in a heated, heavily planted tank with gentle currents (sponge filters are ideal) I have a ‘Giant’ betta in a 40 gallon breeder tank (low and wide) and he uses every inch of that 3 foot long, 17 inch deep and tall tank footprint. Those long, fancy fins add increased weight and drag, and make it HARDER for the fish to swim, the worst examples are the ‘dumbo’ variants, their oversized fins are incredibly inefficient, the healthiest and best swimmers are short finned females or ‘Plakat’ short finned males (closer to their original finnage) Certain breeds like Koi and Dragonscale are actually so inbred that they can go blind, their scales actually grow over their eyes, blinding them (‘Diamond Eye’) Although the hobby has said for a while females can be housed together in a single tank (20 long or bigger), it’s inherently risky, as each fish has their own personality, multiple males CANNOT share a tank as they will fight to the death, and breeding male/female pairs should be separated the moment the spawning is complete, the male guards the bubble nest and fry, the female would be chased/harassed/killed if she stayed with the male And the nest/fry Great fish, but as the video says, they need some special care for best quality of life.

Most probably won’t agree with this method but it’s a little old school but works. I pulled Willie out and put him in a glass bowl. Put the bowl in a spot so he couldn’t see me come in the room. Grabbed a metal spoon, snuck up on him and wacked the glass a few times and scared the 💩 right out of him. 😏 He was happy and back to wiggling just fine. Put him back in with his buddies and he relieved himself in peace and not bloated anymore.. Oh this method works superb on skittish fish like a pro.. Js

This js honestly the worst video to take advise of, bettas are carnivores they will bloat if they eat vegetables, they'll eat it because bettas dont have a limit, they will eat themselves to death if given the chance, never give bettas vegetables there is no good way to prepare vegetables. Bettas get their nutrition from the animals they eat daphnia eat fiborous food like algea, betta get their fiber from daphnia not peas, peas will kill them, cats get their nutrition and water from mice and rats because rats and mice eat berries and plants and cats can get that beneficial nutrition without ingesting plants, same thing with betta fish.

Yes, mine flare at everyone but me, and the female does full body breaches when it’s feeding time. She literally bites onto the tweezers and won’t let go. Anything that feisty gotta be smart. And the male waits under the opening in the lid for food when he’s ready to eat lol. I bred them once, and when it came time to take away the babies he got SUPER depressed and was pissed at me. He’s still not over it.

Stay with the short-finned varieties like Plakats, they don’t have as much drag as the elaborate finned varieties.

Me aqua diary , I noticed my sister's betta has been having fin rot , his fins a quite damaged . I am afraid I can't buy medication or afford it , what can I do possibly? I will keep his water quality perfect, and I have bought a heater as well to keep him warm . We will also buy a gravel vacuum. Any other advice? Also my betta , on his front fins , he seems to have white tips , of equal size , I bought him 2 days ago , is he ok ? I have cycled his tank a lot , have very good filters and alive plants to keep the water even cleaner. If he has fin rot , he is in very early stages . What can I do to stop it now ?
