Yes this behaviour is normal and is expected. This is so that when you update the elements inside that compound, it should update everywhere else. And this way is very useful in many other things. So what you can do is also make a copy of the objects inside that compound and link them to the new compound, that way what ever you do It will not affect the original compound. Another thing you could is select the compound and make a simple shape from it. It will create a shape that is completely independent and not have any underlying elements tied to it. i'm glad this helps you. Freecad has added new improvements, i'm constantly thinking of how to get the necessary hardware to create more updated video tutorials. But only time will tell as i'm so busy with many other things.

Thank. Unfortunately I've lost all the content and initial recording when I had a system crash failure. That's why I've not had time and capacity to reinvest on a resilient system. But in the future if all goes well I have an interest to resume youtube. As there as been major updates and work that has been done since then.

Thanks. I still use freecad. But it depends on the project. For personal projects where I can afford to be picky with every detail I use freecad. But for clients projects where they change their mind all too fast, I don't use freecad because of stringent deadlines.

Hi Regis, I've had TurboCAD on trial (the Deluxe package seems limited, and am unable to get clarity on the things that you have confirmed with FreeCAD. My trial is up in a day's time, so I need to make a decision). I like the idea of buying a package outright and know that FreeCAD relies on donations, which I am more than happy to do, if it is the right program for me. I did try FreeCAD for a while, gave up and went onto TurboCAD; now I have done full circle, and am back looking into FreeCAD. However, there are some things that I just cannot get confirmation on (with TurboCAD). I guess the other thing that I need to know is whether FreeCAD can do interiors like kitchens, stairs and 3D Sections. I want to be able to draw a house with some details like roof trusses or beams and view a Section in 3D, if that is possible? If you are able to recommend some basic tutorials, I would be grateful, thanks Linda@@RegisNdeTene

Indeed most of the comments you pointed out are true since at the time i was new to this and also experimenting trying to push as much useful material out. It is also true that Freecad has known some most notable improvements since my last videos and so the videos require some updates. Right now my challenge is gathering enough resources to be able to put together a good set of working hardware (and if you mention mac, then mac hardware aswell). When working at fore front of tech, things do often break and so there is a constant need to invest in back up of systems and hardware, and have fall over and failover systems to support the main infrastructure. Currently that has been my main challenge when it comes to moving this channel forward in the most consistent way possible. I keep on collecting all the comments, opinions, remarks made so that should i be able to put things together, i'll be able to have a guided direction based on some of the comments. Once again I appreciation your comments as they are of value to make things better and without which I would not have a single clue of what makes this works beneficial to others and how to improve it.

@Atomic_Sheep, indeed video 5 was a live video i did. Instead of a recording that I uploaded to youtube. the video quality was not good and many people were complaining, so i removed it.

@@RegisNdeTene Reading through the comments of your videos, there does seem to be a lot of criticism. Perhaps too much. I'm not sure most of it is warranted. Hard to figure out what to pay attention to and what to ignore. I think the music is fine. Plus it's of a perfect volume. Your pace is perfect too. I pretty much didn't have to rewind while watching. I have no problems with your delivery.

I remember having a similar issue one time. Maybe it's the version. What version of freecad are you using?

@@RegisNdeTene i went to the website and downloaded it like 3 hours ago so its the latest i think, it looked different from yours but close enough to where i can somewhat follow the tutorial, but there were a lot of things that were default for you but i had to change in my case

So if you see the video at 21:40-45. I mention that the reason I copy is to break the link of the compound. So you can make a new copy of the mirrored compound. I think k it should break the link. Try that and let me know.

@@RegisNdeTene Hello. I just tried that but it didn't work. Stepwise, here's what I tried: I created a door, turned it into a compound, then mirrored it, then copied the mirrored door. It seems I can move the copy as freely as I want, but as soon as I make a change or delete the original door, such change propagates to both the mirrored and the copied doors.

Ok that must have been a new development. I have another idea. Do you have the bim workbench installed?

Ah c'est une bonne chose. Si j'ai du temps dans le futur je reviendrais faire jouer avec et faire des mis à jour. Et des tutos génial. Mais pour l'instant j'ai dautres prerogatives qui me coincent. Mais sinon n'hésitez pas à partager ce que tu concoit avec freecad. J'aime toujours voir ce que les autres réussissent à créer avec freecad.
