Oregon has been rapidly trending towards _not_ playing down to their comp. They lost twice to a team that beat Texas and played in the championship game -- by a total of 6 points. And Oregon is more talented this year. In other words, UO 48 - Purdue 6 ... Purdue isn't going to be fer crap this year.

Some FSU sports fan will still accept an SEC invite. But conference selection if given an option will be the choice of the Administration and State of Florida and will be based on what benefits the entire campus, not just sports. B12 willing to pay more for FSU may not be enough if the matchups are not there to support elevated B12 viewerships. The B12 needs to increase its bigger brands in addition to Miami, Clemson, and FSU. Who are the candidates: perhaps Utah, BYU, TCU, WV??? UCF also has enormous potential. Which teams in the B12 are positioned to challenge the P2? Very interesting discussion.
@FSUMagnetic2024Күн бұрын
FSU vs BYU, Utah, UCF, TCU will certainly get higher viewership that BC, WF, and Syracuse but can those same schools maintain high viewership without playing a Clemson, Miami, or FSU?

Okay for every dingo dumb dumb individual who is going to justify it or twist the notion of promoting and relegating, here are some facts and key points that many of you failed to acknowledge or admit or deny. 1.) The promotion and relegation systems around the world usually involve professional leagues and entities and clubs and organizations and franchises and not college or lower level education non professional leagues and clubs and entities. 2. The promotion system and relegation system are backed by both public capital/equity and private capital/equity and corporate governance and management and services that can provide help or hindrance depending upon the situation of said team or sports organization/club. I will explain later on. 3. If a school is relegated down or out of a certain conference, is it just that sport and not all sports and academics or is it every sport and academics and thus forced to swap schools with said conferences designated as the promotion and relegation conferences that are aligned with? For instance; BiG10 aligned with MAC, CUSA, MWC. SEC aligned with AAC, SBC, CUSA. Big12 aligned with MWC, AAC, MAC. ACC aligned with AAC, SBC, CUSA. 4. If you only promote and demote in just football and football only, how many times does a team have to get demoted or promoted to be considered a permanent team in either league due to performances greater or lesser than expected results regularly? 5. Just what the heck do you do with the sporting venues and arenas and stadiums with conferences’ logos and affiliations? 6. What about the media revenue and revenue generated from non media outlets and entertainment companies and revenue streams? How do you justify taking away or giving revenue and income from one school to another in just one sport for one year or multiple sports in multiple years? I could point out way more details about how this would not work on so many different levels and different compositions no matter how you slice it down or try to figure out how to make it work. No matter what it just will not. The only way this could work is to create a super league (sort of). You have seven divisions/conference of ten teams that resembles the old power conferences configurations to a degree and one conference of 12 teams that are not autonomous and subject to promotion and relegation with the other G5/6 colleges/conferences. You give each autonomy college 60 million dollars flat media deal through a multi network system showcasing all sports and postseason tournaments/play. The division/conference of 12 teams that are non autonomous get 30 million dollars and the rest of G5/6 get 15 million. None of the teams/schools from the 7 autonomous divisions/conferences are subject to promotion or relegation; only the non autonomous ones are. You have it set on a four year cycle and curriculum and standards set to either stay in the 8th div/conference or get relegated down while another group of (whatever #) gets relegated up. But once again the money aspect comes into play here too. If you are a non-autonomous college, you would have to constantly budget as if you were making the 15 million dollars a year and not the 30 million dollars unless you knew you would constantly perform successfully enough to never get relegated down.

Intraconference relegation is best. When the Big 12 gets to 20 or 24 teams, it should try to make it work. a) it allows for unequal revenue distributions, b) it provides the best quality resume for its champion while mitigating risks of major upsets, c) it engenders intrigue for all matchups throughout the conference.

I love relegation and promotion, but the way it's described here just within the B1G is lame. Seems like there's no real consequence to getting relegated.
@xmositoxc1472 күн бұрын
I can see relegation working in the P2. Once the SEC and B10 get to 20 and the CFP goes to 16 Teams, the P2 can have a top and lower league. Top Leagues 3 Auto Bids. Lower Leagues 1 Auto Bid. That ends up being 8 spots. 1 for the G5 9 Spots 2 Auto Bids for the Big12 1 Auto Bid for the 4th strongest conference (ACC remnants. 12 spots. 4 At Larges. The Big12 and ACC can choose to keep 1 league or do relegation. The bottom Leagues wouldn't warrant an Auto bid. 4 at larges does allow the B10 and SEC to get as many as 8 teams. Big12 can get as many as 6. ACC can get as many as 5. No one actually believes that they ACC could get 5. Or that the Big12 would get 6 while the Big10 and SEC only get 4 each. And SEC on a very good year could still get 8 teams. Win win for everyone.... and the lower tier B10 and SEC winner gets in. At least 3 spots for relegation! ND as Moen noted, everyone gets paid the same.

Relegation? Nope.
@davidbrown3862 күн бұрын
Relegation is a non starter. Why? 1: I can imagine the lawsuits by states ( especially when it comes to State Schools). 2: What do you use as the relegation standard? Wins & Losses? That might not work. For example Nebraska has been bad for a decade but sell out every home game. What about Northwestern which is spending $800m on a new Stadium. Do you kick those two schools out of the Big 10?
@keahilanil3469Күн бұрын
No, you relegate them out of the Big Ten for at least a season. The other side of relegation is promotion and by doing well the next year, they can get promoted back into the Big Ten. The system works pretty well outside the U.S. where teams also have huge stadiums with sell-out crowds and large payrolls. Imagine that.
@davidbrown386Күн бұрын
Relegation is not happening. Perhaps the worst incident in college football history was Sandusky and Penn St when even the President of Penn St ( Graham Spannier) went to prison. Was Penn St kicked out of the Big 10? No. If the Big 10 did not boot PSU over that, they are not booting Indiana and ( or) Purdue over a 3-9 record.
@adamb63702 күн бұрын
I don’t see how relegation can work under existing portal rules. Players can put a school into relegation situation and then transfer out. Relegation doesn’t work unless we go back to a process where players can’t so easily come and go from schools

Would love to see this analysis with two things changed; FSU and CU added to the B12 with their CFP credits and a B12 contract renegotiated for on fair market value for FSU/CU + the four corners schools who I would assume were a more valuable addition than the 12 B12 teams that the $31.7 contract were based on. Or at least do analysis with the 100% increase in’31 based on reasonable estimates. Thanks.

This ACC deal is so flawed with the three new schools as those teams will look like crap with no money and little to no NIL. They will look like three MAC schools and create irreparable damage to themselves and to the ACC conference.

WildUte, It's simple. SEC and ESPN are married to each other
@xmositoxc1474 күн бұрын
Agree with WildUte on ESPN picking up the contract. Pick it up, best case only Clemson and FSU leave and you keep on paying Louisville, NCState, Miami pennies vs paying them more in the Big12. Depends on how the ACC contract is worded.... the contract is so long that in 2034 ESPN might be paying Big12 schools 55M and ACC schools 25M.
