Then with Willie Mae Ford Smith. She preformed with Clara WARD And Ward Singers. In 1930s her cousin Blues Pianist Cecile Gant played for her as she traveled doing events. Usually outdoors or small churches. He drove or they rode train. He made big hit," I Wonder " in 1947. They moved to LosAngeles in early 41. He went to Army. She continued to perform. Joining Harmony Missionary Baptist church in South Central LosAngeles in 1950s very early 60s, where Billy Preston was organist. Joshua Nelson is just gifted. He can sing so well. His voice is without peer. His spirituality is real. Each time he sings he touches the spirit in me. I saw him years ago on Bobby Jones Gospel on BET. I also watch his many videos on KZbin. He is one of a kind

Johnny, I think I was at either the first Mother's Day concert Emmit had in 1977 or 1978. It was at the Cow Palace and his featured guests were the Dixie Hummingbirds. That was way before I found out that a lot of these legends would end up becoming friends with me.

Thank you for posting this. With tears running down my eyes the memories of The Mother's Day concerts flood my mind. You see, my Aunt Rebecca Collins sand with Emmitt Powell & The Gospel Elites for over 30 years and I was with her/them alot! I met Cassietta, Inez, Shirley and many GREAT names. I little, but I hold a memory of Inez SINGING and then leaving the stage..she sand back stage for along time in The spirit..tears rolling down her face..this it info believe!
