That was so enjoyable. I loved The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. That was so strange what Liam Clancy said about him being the last man standing. I had a dream about four grave stones and three were lying flat and in my head a voice was saying Liam Clancy last man standing. Less than an hour later I went out for a walk and saw a neighbour who said she had just read in the paper that Tommy Makem had died. How weird.

i don't know why but something about his voice or cadence in the video's opening reminds me of Gene Autry. Irish musicians had a profound effect on Appalachian & country-western music... love from the States ✌️

What a joy to see Tommy's sons performing. Such beautiful singers, such quality in their voices. I hope that they are still out there building on their Father's legacy. Tommy and his talent are too important to be lost to future generations. A voice for the ages. Much loved. Very much missed.

I am 46, and I listen to their music daily. They were giants in my house growing up, I remember my parents taking us to see them live as kids. I think it was at Bishop Ford, but I could be wrong. I still have Liam's autograph on the ticket stub from that show. It's amazing to me that they are all gone.

Was this song included on an ep or singles vinyl disc? As far as I know, it never showed up on any of their albums (not U.S. releases, anyway)? I'm making a Spotify playlist of all the songs Liam sang in Irish; and I can't find this gem on Spotify to save my life, alas...

Sad that now Liam is gone also, given that last scene in this video with him. What a unique and wonderful combination of men. Grew up with their music and it still moves me.

Tommy Makem was a saint, a patron saint of Irish folk music. His narrative at 12:00 about Irish immigrants leaving their home counties on their gravestones was very touching. Years ago, while tracing our family tree, my parents came to a dead end. Until they found a grave in Portland ME which had the name of our ancestor's hometown. (Iveleary, now called Inchegeela). From there we could trace the family further back into Ireland.

What a thrill after a lifetime of loving Tommy Makem and the Clancy's to hear a song I've never heard before. Liam's beautiful voice makes me cry for the good old days when they were with us and I could go to their concerts and meet them at fairs. God, I was so lucky to "know" them in their time as entertainers. No one can beat them for beauty and historical context. Thank you for posting this wonderful piece!

The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. Those boys are rocking in all over heaven, have a most brilliant time, playing gigs all over the place, plus every Saturday and Sunday evenings playing in Kingdom Hall, I have heard from a totally reliable source that Jesus never misses a concert at the weekends with a Guinness in hand and wearing an Arren sweater, Jesus looks like one of the very greatest boy band that this world ever witness
