Interesting, the VihtaVuori website shows that their min charge for a 123 grains bullet using N120 is 23.6 grains and max one 26.5 grains, it's the one that I'm using and they average ~2406 FPS from my rifle with no sign of over-pressure. Maybe Hornady is being very conservative?

@BradleY97 - yeah it used to drive me nuts until I figured it out. They will blow out nicely. I think the most irritating thing was that the dimples would catch as they fed into the chamber. Glad this video helped! Happy reloading! 👍🏻

Hello there - I found out I have a Franklin Arsenal tumbler with media, polish, etc., that came with my Dillon 550C. In your professional opinion, how many times can you / do you re-use media before tossing it away? Appreciate you putting this together. It is helpful, you got another sub! I see below the question was asked previously below, in case someone asks after me. Great question/answer below. Very collaborative forum.
@k2defense

@theociba3762 - I use my media until it turns blackish or it takes a long time to just knock off the particulates. I fall victim to the shiny brass syndrome even though shiny brass doesn’t make the projectiles go faster. 😂 you can “recharge” your media with Nu Finish car polish or any of the media recharges you find at your local store or online. I also use, used dryer sheets to help remove some of the grime out of the media as well. My father-in-law uses the same media basically all year long. Some folks use lizard bedding, rice, etc. the main take away is that you want your brass free from debris and not have any chemicals on it that can corrode it. If you need shiny brass, you’ll need to replace and/or recharge your media frequently. Dry sheets are optional but in my opinion help with reduction of particulates. I’ve had others email me saying that the comment section is a great place to share info so I encourage people to ask questions and reply and reply back to others with their experience. I certainly do not know everything and have learned many new ways of doing things by interacting with all the viewers. Hope this helps! 👍🏻

Do you organize it so you can do a bigger batch in a shorter amount of time? Or does it have to be a one-at-a-time process? And how many can you get done in, say, a couple hours? Thanks!
@k2defense
@k2defense 19 күн бұрын
@johnmontana8540 - I go through a lot of .223/5.56 so I have what I call an assembly line. I use big containers and label them, clean, cleaned and resized, cleaned resized ready to reload, etc. it’s a great system if I have an hour or so I can grab the “ready to be primed” container and hand prime them while watching tv or what have you. I usually have a couple of five gallon buckets full that always need cleaning so I just dump them in when I know I’ll be around a few hours and keep an eye on them. I’ve always have something going on in the background keeping me busy. Personal organization is not something I typically try to teach others since everyone has their own method of madness. I have a system that works for me that I’m continually improving to save time, energy, and money (if possible). I really should make a video of how I do it. I just figure people figure out their own way with the space they have. Great question! 👍🏻

Lol your OAL will be all over the place as not every bullet is the exact same length. You really need to use the bullets ogive as a reference in regards to your measuring point.👍 If using the hornady bullet comparator with inserts in addition to your digital caliper’s you would be better well served. Great video quality and appreciate your efforts to educate those just starting out.

@goldenkangaroo4969 - sounds like you’re the expert in this department. Please elaborate more on your claim. Being that all of my reloads have the same OAL using this method. Perhaps you can explain to the viewers why my OAL is exactly the same and you suggest that it will be all over the place? I’m sure the viewers would LOVE to know what you’re doing differently. I’m guessing what you’re referring to is the CBOT and not the OAL? I don’t want to assume anything but your post is a bit confusing. Thanks for your expert opinion! 👍🏻

I have the same setup for 556 to 300Blk. With my Dillon press I was having issues resizing the case. It was jamming in the die. The anealed part of a case is the neck and is cut off when we convert it. I found that anealing it before resizing works better. I anealed it a second time after resizing because resizing rehardens it causing the mouth of the case to be smaller. Doing a second aneal makes the bullet easier to set into the case not to mention keeps the neck flexible as it should be.

i notice you do not mention letting the lube dry. Is this not a necessary step before resizing? Ive not reloaded rifle ammo yet so wanting to get it right.
@k2defense
@k2defense Ай бұрын
@Wccops61 - you should lube your bottle neck cases. I prefer to lube the lower third of the case. I do not lube the shoulders because of dimpling of the shoulders. Rather, I use spray lube for the case mouth to help with the squeaking and not marring up the die. Use as little as possible! You will have a higher chance of stuck cases if you don’t lube the lower third of the case. Does this help and make sense? I want to make sure you’re good to go. Let me know if you run into any issues. Been there done that with bottle neck cases. 👍🏻

I shoot mostly cast bullets and prefer to seat the bullets first then crimp. Otherwise the crimp is simultaniously closing the case as the bullet is being seated and some shaving of lead does happen. Seperste the processes and the problem goes away

Hi there ! How many reloads can you do with the hornet case?
@k2defense
@k2defense Ай бұрын
@jonkayak5307 - so, there are many variable to consider when answering this question. If you want the short answer 2-3 reloads. The brass is super thin mainly causing case head separation. I use a compressed load when reloading my cases. I’d post my recipe but my channel would be taken down and shut off. I plan on two reloads per case. I don’t like having to go through the process of removing the stuck case in the chamber. I’ve mutilated one rifle doing this so I avoid having this happen again. Sorry for the long answer to a short question. Hope this helps! 👍🏻

Well.. my grandfather used to reload his hunting rounds.. I have never done it myself.. the reason I'm checking this video out is I've had a cowboy colt my grandpa gave me, 40 years ago. Well I've also only fired it about twelve times. I got it out the other day and it's still perfect. Well needless to say I checked into ammo and oh gawdamn has ammo gone up.. ok I'm going to buy ten boxes of ammo but I want to be able to reload my casings. One question I have.. how many times can you reload the 45 long? And what's the best ones for reloading. Lol I guess that was two questions.. thank you for your very well done video..
@k2defense
@k2defense Ай бұрын
@rusty1898 - I don’t go crazy when reloading this caliber. I’m midrange loads when I use cast projectiles. I’m using the same cases that I’ve had for years. Straight wall cases do not “stretch” as much as bottle neck cases. So you’ll get many more reloads. Most any brass you can find in the stores preloaded will last a long time. They are not well sought after like 9mm. The 9mm is more common so the will use other than brass for their cheap ammo. Some of it you can’t even reload. In short, your brass cases should last many times and secondly the preloaded ammo from the store should last you a long time. Like I said earlier, I’ve been reusing my brass for a long time. But I do not commonly use this round when going to the range. You’ll be happy with the reloads as well. One of the easier rounds to reload. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! 👍🏻

when you reload do you sort the 5.56 brass by headstamp or case weight? i know everyone goes into depth about that but can i just use the same load on all cases? for ex if i have ppu and lake city brass can i use the same primers, powder charge and bullet in those cases? or should i sort all my brass and have a load for each brand so when i load bulk i do all those at the same time
@k2defense
@k2defense Ай бұрын
@Therealmoletard - for plinking, I do not sort. Some will say that you have to. I just keep my loads midrange. I never make a hot load with mixed brass. For precision shooting, yes, I sort, weigh, etc. just make sure to not run 5.56 in a .223. I can go into depth about all of it but I like to keep it simple. Make sense? Did I answer your question?

@@k2defense thanks for the responce,i have 2 5.56 ar's that i want to start loading for ( plinking rounds) and have been really scared to start. i figured if i kept it mid range it would be ok but i got told it can blow the gun up. also would it be safe to shoot the reloads out of both my rifles if its midrange loads? another big thing i always see is only reload for 1 gun. if you have 2 5.56 ar's you need diffrent loads for them or it can blow the gun. it always confused me because factory ammo can be used in any 5.56 gun. sorry for the odd questions i just want to be sure im going about this as safe as i can. thanks for your time and the good info. love the videos man
@k2defense
@k2defense Ай бұрын
@Therealmortard - great questions! No worries! The reason I started this channel is to help others. Use your reloading manual. It should have about five different load options. Start with the lowest and work up to the max. Reloading manuals keep the reloading data low to keep it safe. Hornady is a classic example. They have their charge loads low. If you can afford it, buy a chronograph. I have one and it a great investment. I start off with sorting your brass. Miss brass is not the best for working up loads. Use the lowest charge, reload five. Somehow mark them so you know what you reloaded them with. Do that for each load they have for that specific projectile. Now go out and shoot them. Once you identify the ones with the least standard deviation, bingo! It takes time to figure things out so don’t get frustrated. It took me a while to get the right recipe for my 5.56. I keep a journal for each round I work up. Then I refer back to it when I reload. Hope this response lowers your anxiety with reloading. Make sure to watch my other videos to help increase your knowledge base. If you need more help, just drop another comment. Here to help! 👍🏻
