If you have to knead by hand how long do you knead for. Thank you. I really want to try this.
@MargaretsMakeandBakeАй бұрын
You kneed until it has a smooth texture and can be stretched without tearing. This could take about 10 mins. Thanks for your question...👍

I'm going to try this today to make filled chocolates for Halloween. I hope it works (looking at the comments I'm not 100% sure about this method) - other people's videos show a seeding method. I'm putting ALL my trust in you !

Hello 👋 Margaret, this is a keeper, an excellent recipe. I've never baked malt loaf in my life and I took a chance doubling up the ingredients. My son who can be quite critical loved it, which is praise indeed. I've shared with friends and gifted a large portion to a close friend with a block of Kerrygold butter for her birthday. She contacted me to say how thrilled she was. Thank you for sharing. ❤ All the best to you. 🎉

No luck finding malt extract in the shops here in Canada, but I found a wonderful beer making place near home that cheerfully supplied some "Amber Malt Extract" to have a go at this! It is almost ready to come out of the oven and the house smells fantastic. I doubt that I will be able to wait the two days to let it cure . . . . Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!!

Yes it is very similar 😀 I have not heard of Irish T Brack, so have googled it! It looks lovely. I imagine with human migration, many bakes have crossed over boarders and been changed over time. Thanks for teaching me something new today...👍

You just melted chocolate. Where is the tempering? You're supposed to add in regular temperature chocolate to the heated chocolate
@MargaretsMakeandBakeАй бұрын
Hi there... Yes, what you have described is one way of tempering chocolate. This method I have used is for small amounts of chocolate and keeps the chocolate in temper throughout. Thanks for popping by...👋
@RayRaza787Ай бұрын
This cant be tempering. This is just heating chocolate up.
@MargaretsMakeandBakeАй бұрын
You're right! It is keeping the chocolate in temper by making sure it does not heat up too much. It can be shaped as desired, and when it sets, it is glossy and has a snap. Thanks for your comment...👍

Lovely! May I respectfully suggest that you use a plate instead of clingfilm to cover the bowl? The earth is suffering extreme toxicity from overuse of plastic, which is so often non-recyclable.

@MargaretsMakeandBake4 ай бұрын
Hi, It's quite a wet batter when the egg is added. It really does need the egg to make the right texture once it's cooked. Hope it came out OK and don't forget to spread the sliced loaf with slatherings of butter. Thanks for popping by...👋
@BlazedReefer4 ай бұрын
This isn't tempered lol, to Temper you have to lower temp once melted then raise again then use it, this just gives you chocolate that will bloom unless your using pre tempered chocolate you never heated past the point of 30c to which all you did was keep the original temper as didn't take it hot enough to ruin it
@MargaretsMakeandBake4 ай бұрын
Yes, you are right. This is tempered chocolate. I am not tempering chocolate here, I am keeping it in temper. If this process is followed carefully, the chocolate sets, is shiny and has a lovely 'snap' when broken. It doesn't bloom... Thanks for popping by...😉

Can't find it on your website. Made it the other day. It does bring back memories of when I lived in Cardiff as a child. Barra Brith is great and your instructions are very easy. Only problem is it's very hard to hide up. So before you know it there's only the last slice left.
@Makethemhearragtime5 ай бұрын
I remember now, that it would all go in one sitting in Cardiff. Hence why cut and come again cake will be my next cake. It implies there's more than one slice for the cook.
