Hey man I thrued the PCT in 21 and 22. I had to laugh at your description of that campsite at the 6:31 mark as being very crowded. Not because I think you were incorrect, but because I get it. When you camp in an area that has other hikers/campers, do you ever socialize with them in the evening or is everyone too tired and just wanting to turn in early?
@movingforward559919 күн бұрын
For the most part, everyone did their own thing: cooking dinner and going to bed. At this stage of the hike, the hikers who are left on the trail are very focused on making it to Canada (or whatever their end goal is) and are hiking long days to make that happen. They tend to go to bed early.

Imagine creating that trail, hauling all that red crush to make a path through the volcanic rock. My daughter worked for the the forest service after she moved from Michigan to Kalamath Falls. One of her jobs was trail maintenance, not on pct. She was not trained for chainsaw use so carried a 5’ crosscut saw bouncing on one shoulder and a polasky on the other. She had a young man helper but not always. Makes me real aware of trail work. She climbed Mt Mcloughlin several times. In fact she got married on a little lake similar to your lake, with the same mountain in the background. 4 Mile Lake. Anyway, thanks for the memories! Safe hiking!
@movingforward5599Ай бұрын
I did think of the effort involved in hauling that red rock in as I hiked through it! Tell your daughter thank you for what she did/does to create and maintain the trails we hike on. I remember hiking past Four Mile Lake. We didn't stop to visit it, though.

"California's National Parks, State Parks, and some County Parks prohibit cutting or collecting firewood within parks and instead encourage visitors to buy local or heat-treated firewood." (from Google) They used to allow cutting and collecting firewood. It seems like this would be a win-win situation. It would allow people to get firewood for the winter and also help clean up the forest floor. Regulations sometime seem stupid.
