Guard your thoughts because not all are meant for sharing. As Lao Tzu wisely said, 'Those who know do not speak. Those who speak do not know.' Preserve your energy and wisdom for those who truly value them.

I am a certified yapper. I agree with almost everything you say here. Specifically what you are saying with sharing accomplishments. Allowing people to influence your dreams, aspirations, or goals negatively is the most detrimental thing to personal growth PERIOD. That being said, I do disagree a little with your argument against 'small talk' or hypotheticals. I think asking interesting and fun questions might seem uneventful and non-impactful to people who are used to communicating complex things regularly, but to people who have issues communicating or opening up they can be a serious gateway to eventful conversation. Great video though!
@yesiamjose

thank you! i feel as though we’re on the same page; i love me a good hypothetical question and i think that small talk is prerequisite for establishing the the necessary comfort and familiarity needed for more personal and intimate dialogue. what i was trying to get at is that, at a certain point, you have to ask yourself if you’re asking these questions because you want to know more about how the other person thinks or if you’re just bored; are you telling someone aspects of your life because you want to enjoy a conversation or because you’re bored of the silence? nothing bad can come from speaking thoughtlessly. but nothing good can come from speaking without intention.

Definitely a yapper. But I will say the person who asks those questions help to keep work from being a drag. I ask them and enjoy when others ask, and yeah, sometimes I do remember those small details about them. I agree it's hard to balance for me sometimes, when people provide quick answers with no details, the conversation ends up being dry and boring.

I would say there is a value to keeping cards close from being judged or dismissed. I will say if you’re a yapper, people may not remember what you said but, will remember how positive you were and struck up a conversation with them. Asking those 3 items questions on slow work day, can really turn someone’s day around.
@yesiamjose
@yesiamjose 10 күн бұрын
you’re honestly right, i didn’t think about that. we might not be remembered by what we’ve said but we will be remembered by how we’ve made people feel. i feel that that's all the more reason to make sure that what we say matters.

I feel you, I think when I was younger, I would often feel kind of inadequate because I asked questions that I personally would have given in-depth answers for, only to get a monosyllabic response. Sometimes it would even make me a bit frustrated, too. But when I started working in customer service I learned how to interact with people in a polite and short manner, often listening to them yap as well, I ultimately learned to just listen, no yapping. What a relief! when i watch your videos i feel like we’re just having a conversation and it’s so fun, so chill, the lines of thought you go through are so interesting to explore! loved it since the first vid, great job!

i know just what you mean. one of my biggest expenses is eating out and it's so hard to stop! but when i want to order something i ask myself if i'm doing it out of laziness or convenience. if it makes more sense to buy a meal, i'm on doordash in a heartbeat. but if i'm honest with myself and it's because i just don't want to cook, i'm gonna ready myself to do some dishes because i'm making a meal!

seeing people actively charge ahead despite the very real pitfalls of failure is nothing short of inspiring. much like yourself, I've wanted to create a space online to share parts of myself with the world but always convince myself otherwise. It's like this internal voice in my head protecting me from all the criticisms that, as you said, feel like an attack on my character. Once I have more to say, ill take a stab at it, for now I root for those willing to take the leap. You got this!

thank you so much, this is such a nice thing to say!!!!! i definitely had that internal monologue when i was working on this video. even now, a couple of days after it's been up, i still can't believe i didn't listen to it like i always do and not take the leap. it wasn't easy for sure, but it's so rewarding when you see yourself on the other side. i hope you start carving out a place for yourself on the internet; i'll be rooting for you when you do

being bullied and stuff really leaves an impact. humans are a social species, so our brains have evolved to fear negative social reactions, which makes sense cuz like back in the day, if you piss off ppl in the village ur dead (think salem witch trials). plus we evolved to feel literal pain when imagining bad outcomes to risky decisions, but we didnt evolve to feel literal pleasure when imagining good potential outcomes, which is why it's sooo hard to change behavior. im struggling w this right now and this is inspiring. i think this video was recommended to me bc this year i identified that the reason why i havent acted upon my social media goals is fear!!! and have been researching how to overcome it. i intend to face this fear and make progress toward overcoming it this summer and it is very fricken scary lol. but thank you, this video is empowering for me to continue :) (btw this is account is *not* my "posting" youtube, in case anyone wonders)
@yesiamjose
@yesiamjose 3 ай бұрын
i never really thought about it like that! it makes a whole lot of sense, though i wish there was a way to trick the mind. i feel as though if i think about it logically the benefits of reaching my goals seem to be significantly greater than the risk of failure, yet i’m more inclined to not act upon what i want. i guess fear is a powerful thing; we really can’t divorce our emotions from the decision making process, which is so annoying. i’m glad you decided to take action and face your fears and i hope you reach the goals that you set!

You're not alone in feeling this way ( 2:02 ) for sure. I'm a year in to putting out content and still battling hard against that self-criticism. You've got a great mindset with regards to effort = success though. That silly fear that we might all feel at putting something out in to the world is worth ignoring. Because each time we put something out we're taking a step. A step that isn't otherwise taken. A step that can be judged, sure. But isn't that better than a step that isn't taken at all? Good luck on your journey man. The change in mic quality from before the dead cat to after, is really noticeable, i'm buying some dead cats right now. With enough duct tape I could probably fit 10 or so to my mic arm, and that will hopefully make me sound like a real person.

i’m glad i’m not the only one that thinks like this and i love the way you put it. honestly this video is something small and menial compared to all the content that’s out there and the creators that make it, but if i want to be like them i need to know that i need to be bad before i’m good, and that it’s a bunch of little efforts that will make a big change. thank you for your kind words and i’m glad you noticed the difference in audio lol.
