Theory: remember the Double ending where it's revealed the goddesses are playing a game? I think it's this. Mother makes a vessel named Lamia then gets two daughters Aeon and Venus. Mother gives Aeon and Venus parasites. Eliza kills them. But, since Mother was not even in a physical body, she didn't really die, just the Lamia body, which Mother ressurected as Double. On top of that, Aeon and Venus's parasites allowed them to cheat death and control time and space, hence them playing with the world and timelines like a game. In short, Eliza actually lost. The Trinity won because they can now do ANYTHING to the Skullgirls world, like bring back Marie more than once, or have Double ALWAYS COME BACK.

Was kind of hoping they’d be all in on developing the canon story mode now that all the ingredients mentioned a decade ago are supposedly here but hopefully that’s well on its way.

Its about goddamned time they let Brain Drain in the game.

Me personally, I think this story-mode was definitely cool and had some interesting gimmick. It definitely shines the most on the story and character interactions, however, I feel like it does not do well in giving any replay-ability or giving the player any choice. The story mode is just a straight line with no branching paths. I think what would make it better is if you could actually swap characters and level up. I get why it got scrapped, but very cool at least.
