He was a boy that never held power, rich parents and a combat trained older brother, he basically never had to worry about anything in life, but when he starts killing more and more people he finally feels powerful for the first time probably, and as we know power, especially when gained suddenly, can corrupt character

I beat Batari by using the owl and dropped the fire bombs on the pillars when I first started. Then used the owl to drop bees on her to have an opening to shoot at her with her not being able to shoot back. Cleared the waves and did the same thing again until she came down to fight head on and used my beasts to attack her.

I played Far Cry 3 all the way through when I was 20-21, at the very start of my adulthood. Now, past 30 and with the journey I have experienced through my 20s, I have found new appreciation for this game and Jason's journey in it. Great video, man. Really made me wanna play through the entire game again, experience Jason's journey once more and reflect on my own while doing so.

I love the hard left swing at the end......"come on you guys.....don't to (puts very specific people on the screen) these people!!!" I'd honestly say the same if "acceptable role models" were used at the end. Any point you had when you choose to point in a specific direction starts to sound like rhetoric.

Far Cry 3 is easily the most thought-provoking game in the franchise. Jason Brody may hardly be a sympathetic protagonist, but he is nonetheless superbly realized as a character, and his journey taps into a primal part of our nature that few of us actually engage with in our world full of conveniences and comforts. When you really get down to it, the human experience, for the vast majority of our history, was defined by hardship. It is only within the last handful of generations that most people on earth have managed to escape subsistence living, and on an evolutionary timeline, that might as well be the blink of an eye. Although we generally seek to make our lives as easy as possible, the truth is that hardship gives us direction and purpose, and we struggle to cope with a lack of it. Ennui is pernicious. We aren't built for comfort, we are built to survive, adapt, and overcome adversity, and some part of us yearns for that at the very core of our being. Even in its stylism and over-the-top-ness, Far Cry 3 delves into that facet of our humanity. Jason Brody is the avatar through which we experience our own journey through hell. At first we are forced to do terrible things to survive and to protect those we care about; then, at some point later, we find ourselves willfully doing terrible things because we can, and we relish in it, and the people we set out to save don't even recognize us anymore. We have become the monster, but the descent into savagery and madness also comes with a taste of godhood. What awaits us in the end? By the time we get there we are in truth a completely different person than we were at the beginning, and there's no going back. The choice we face in the final moments of the journey is a profound one: either way, a part of us dies.

In the beginning of farcay 2 I always did the optional missions because it was a better route than doing the main route but towards the end of the game I stopped doing the optional missions because I was tried out driving from place to place. So I ended up killing both leaders of the waring factions and then killing myself in an explosion to help civilians escape the country.

I think that Pagan didn't ever tell Ajay the truth about being the heir to the throne on the radio because he felt like letting Ajay do whatever he wanted He realised that Ajay was doing the same as him and decided that the best thing to do was to let Ajay burn his feelings out on the murder bender he got into with the golden path Pagan doesn't really care for Kyrat, if Ajay feels like burning the country to the ground "for his mother" then let him! And when he's done playing in the ashes *then* Pagan can come in and do what he was going to do from the beginning.

The thing about this game that always stuck with me the most was how shitty absolutely everyone is, and Pagan Min just comes out looking the best because he's fun. I do think Ajay's lack of reaction is potentially a problem, but it just gave me, the player, the agency to feel about it *my* way. When I got either of the two endings with either faction, the end result was me massacring them. And since this game *is a sandbox* , I feel it lives up to its nature better by making Ajay a stand-in for the player. 3, on the other hand... I really think you overrate Jason. His bad ending is nonsense, and his good ending is just the goal established from the very beginning. His "descent into insanity" isn't even really there. Not really. I've played Far Cry 3 several times, and I never really bought into his story, both his initial reaction to what he's thrust into isn't visceral enough, but his actual descent into madness really didn't feel present, aside from the shitty LSD trips. And gameplay-wise, I always felt that 4 was just a straight upgrade. There's also just the craptonnes of lore written for 4 that simply don't exist in 3. Like regarding Ajay's father. Most people play the game, and *never learn* how much of an absolute he is/was, and slowly learning his story through the collectibles was actually really cool. I will agree with the idea of 3's sidequests being better than 4's, though. Ajay's personal agency being non-existent works within the main campaign, and allowing the player to better insert themselves within the story, but makes the side quests pretty miserable.

I remember not liking Jason in the beginning, feeling worse about him in the middle and really fw him at the end. But I slightly disagree with your interpretation. To say Jason was manipulated I think is misunderstanding the characters a bit. The woman in the game represented the conflicting desires all adrenaline junkies with unstable minds have: unchained chaos which FEELS like living in the moment. Or Familiar serenity The reason the jungle chick was so attractive to him was she not only gave him permission to explore this side of himself, she valued his potential which could never in a million years bring him anything worthwhile in civilization. She played into his escapism. But I don't think it's because she's any more manipulative than anyone else. Or her love is just so shallow. At the end of the day a lot of people become adrenaline junkies like Jason because they have become disconnected from their own emotions. Every cut scene you'll notice is like a litmus test for his ability to process or even experience his emotions. Jason's real character development was him learning to stop running away from tough decisions. He almost/did fall in love with the jungle because it gave him the tools to tackle his problems and emotions head on. I think if you take another look at the storyline. He actually becomes more open as the game progresses, he just seems quiet because people keep talking to him about stuff that his character wasn't meant to answer yet. Meaning some of the dialoge is more for us to get to know Jason better. Through the lens of the people around him. Sorry this is all over the place and incomplete. Im recovering from a night of clubbing lol. But it's a fun topic so if something doesn't make sense let me know

Look, im never one of those purists whos like "the first movie/book/game of the series is the best" but in this case, hands down, far cry 1 was the best. But I guess that's simply due to personal preference. I just loved the mechanic of the Aspect of the game that turned the MC into a a type of mutant. Thats also what I liked about Area 51 I guess.

In the modern day, there is so much media of all forms to get involved in that I think having good aesthetics is quite important, as it is an easy way to cull the number of media one consumes every year from something insane to something manageable with their own schedule. This is why games with poor aesthetics like Concord do so poorly, but the same can be said for games with poor gameplay like First Descendant, as people see through the shallowness quite quickly and leave. And frankly, I think unsexualized but attractive female characters do quite well in modern games. The hype over Monster Hunter Wilds is insane, yet the most sexualized character in it you barely see and it makes sense for her to be wearing skimpy clothes when she works beside a forge. All the other female characters are fully covered because they work in the field. But they're all decently popular because their appearances fit their roles. The awkward and nerdy girl is your handler and walking encyclopedia, and the buff one with short hair and flat lines is the hunter of the second squad. It's about fitting in with the aesthetics of the game, just like how Bayonetta's overly sexualization fits in due to the nature of her games. But intentionally ugly prominent characters are always going to be a detriment to a game's popularity, regardless of gender. I imagine that it was actually one of the factors for the Gollum game to fail, aside from all the other reasons.

I hate the equippable armor changes. Female armor: wears a bikini and some shoulder plates. Male armor: full body plating and a helmet. I would much rather have one armor look the same for both genders, or be able to switch from full body plate to bikini look on the same armor set. Idm the women looking hot as long as the men do too :o

I agree with the fact that female sexualization is often seen as negative, while male sexualization is sometimes seen as positive, and that this disparity is an issue. It should be either both or neither, or if a game caters to a specific audience, there’s no problem with sexualizing characters of either gender, but it’s important to be transparent about the type of game you're making. Just because a man has muscles and is shirtless doesn’t automatically mean he’s being sexualized. A good example of male sexualization is Nightwing in DC comics, where in certain issues, he’s drawn from angles specifically meant to make him look "hot". By contrast, a character like Batman, who is buff but simply wears a costume, isn’t considered sexualized. A great example of a game that sexualizes men as much as women are often sexualized in certain media is Nu Carnival (18+ game). This is a clear example of full-on male sexualization.

People have gotten so tied up over realistic graphics that they've become afraid of attractive people and can't seem to separate fiction from reality. I have never given a damn about whether a character is attractive, they just look the way they look because that's who they are in the context of the game, it's not real. I shouldn't bother questioning why they look how they do as long as it doesn't completely break their character. It's gone to hell with movies as well, where how attractive actors are have overtaken the characters they play as because people can't separate reality from fiction. It's not the content's fault, it's the perception of it. Even if I were someone who couldn't separate fiction from reality, I don't question why someone is gorgeous or fugly, they just are the way they are. Unless there's some starkly unappealing contrast between who they are and how they look, who cares? Videogames have proven time and time again that characters' personalities and narrative purposes go far beyond their appearances, and that opinions on sexual appeal mean little to nothing. In other words: The world has gone insane in purposefully making characters objectively LESS attractive even at the cost of stylistic appeal to pander to people who feel attacked when met with attractive fictional characters. If the character was created a certain way, let them be that way, attractive or not.
