Giles, your Decauville is absolutely gorgeous! Your engineering and modelling skills are truly a sight to behold. I model in 16mm, and I’ve built some of the 3D printed loco kits that are available, but none of my models match the standard of your beautiful little loco’s. I note that there is not a proprietary model of a Decauville currently available in 16mm scale - Accucraft produced a live steam version in 7/8ths scale, but having seen yours, I hope someone might fill this gap. Please keep adding your lovely video’s, I must get around to getting the Wild Swan book that you wrote!

Good advice and insights Giles. The loco is very nice Giles. 3D printing is a useful tool and you seem to play to the strengths of the various media. The thought of using computers in my railway modelling turns me cold (I know I'm cutting my nose to spite my face by not learning CAD). Do you still go to exhibitions and/or exhibit?

The dinkier the engine the better, have sen models of a Decauville Mallet, would make a nice model in OO9 and 7mm Narrow gauge (14mm and or 16.5mm gauges)
@alanbowers65542 ай бұрын
Incredibly interesting stuff. The Jouef Deucaville was my first loco too, many many years ago. Still have a soft spot for it as well. I have been hoping to make a 7 1/4 gauge version eventually. Yours is looking very nice. You're right about the drawings, many out there and few are correct. I hunted down some a few years ago, the seller claimed they were good but upon closer inspection, there were many faults. The garratt will be a fun project to watch progress. I recall the kit you mentioned, I believe you were correct in saying it was a Backwoods model. I recall seeing them but passing them up at the time, given my lack of experience soldering kits at that time. A bit off topic, but I was hoping to ask, what resin printer would you recommend nowdays? I am in the market, the family is looking for Christmas gifts. Your prints always seem to be incredibly high quality. I do believe I remember you making a video or two about printers but I was wondering if you'd made any changes or upgrades to your collection since then. All the best Alan

Hi Alan, funny you should ask! So far I have had a Mars 2 Pro, which is now very old in the tooth..... I am in the process of upgrading to a Saturn 4 Ultra, which should give me a bigger bed size and a really good definition.... if you didn't need that bigger size, I would go for the top of the range Mars Pro...... I shall still keel printing at smaller than advertised layour heights to get the best resolution (I print at 0.01) on the Mars 2 Pro)

FIRST! Marvelous stuff Giles, just marvelous. How did yiu construct the stone walls, they look really good👍 Are you planning to attend exhibitions with this layout and stock? 🤔🤞🙏😊✌️💜
@gilesengineer5 ай бұрын
@musoseven8218 The drystone walls were done the hard way! I cast thin slabs of Hydrocal light-weight plaster, çut into strips and then into individual stones, and then finally fettled the edges each blank to realistic 'stone' finish - a process that took about 2.5 minutes for each stone. A piece of harboard was cut the length and shape of the wall, but lower to actually attach the stones to. Each stone was glued onto position on the wall whilst the next one was made.... The wall was about 24 hours in the making (@ 4 foot long). When the wall was complete, it was first painted with very thin washes and finally it was bonded onto the layout and grassed in.
