Marx guy here, I finished that prewar Flyer #420 cast shell with Marx S/R motor. She runs and pulls well; I be plenty good and pleased. 11/14/24.

Just ordered one of these off e-bay, it will be a project. But, I finally got one! Yours came out very nice, I liked the way you did the pantograph- it does look nicer than the original, something for me to think about. best of luck, and thanks for sharing your trains with us!

From your comments it sounds like this stuff with be resale. The only good stuff I see worth anything are the two powered Alco’s. Too bad the 1666 is screwed with. Rail cars might average $5 - $8 apiece between good ones and junk at shows. All the HO stuff worthless to me, no interest. But there is a buyer for almost anything. Could be surprise profit. Recoup the $80 and making money may take time and effort.

I live in the greater New Haven area and have had many relatives and friends who worked at A.C.Gilbert. I have a 1941 catalog and it doesn't mention smoke. The choo choo unit was listed. Rumors persist that smoke might have made its premier in 1943, but the war prevented it. You may have a locomotive body in the manufacturing transition to smoke. Is there a date stamped inside the body shell?

@garystrains3146 hey bud iam interested in those 3 I asked about
@leverettrailfan54148 ай бұрын
The HO GG1 looks like it's a Penn Line. Never owned one, but they're supposed to be pretty nice. The HO budd car is an athearn with the "Hi-F" drive that uses elastic bands to transmit torque to the wheels. Those two identical diesels are based on a German prototype, and the manufacturer is marked on them, Lima. The Milwaukee B unit would be an Athearn too, the 0-6-0 chassis looks like Rivarossi, and the trolley/interurban car is probably Bowser. The 2-8-2 steamer is a Mantua product. Noticed some of the O gauge cars you got in your lot match some cars I got in a lot, which ended up all going to a set- 1473WS. Had a 2046 hudson, 2046W tender, 3464 boxcar, 6465 tank car, 6520 searchlight car, and 6357 illuminated caboose with no smokestack. I could tell I had a set because I had all the cars, and all of them had features that lined up with 1950 production. Check and see if the operating boxcar has door guide rivets with a flat head, and if the cars have staple end trucks.

Hi Gary, Excellent haul! The Lionel engines, train cars, transformers, blister packs and accessories are well worth your money --- (2 are postwar 6464 boxcars). The gray Marx 1666 steam engine / sound of power tender is a good catch. The HO engines also have some good value. When you get finished all of the engines / cars will look great and run perfectly.

So far I noticed you have an Atlas F9, even though a cheaply made Roco engine, you also have an FM C liner from Rivarossi, both are 2 rail of course, and don't discount those Atlas freight cars, one of worst kept secrets is that they work well on 3 rail as well, and the Atlas couplers in a pinch will work with Lionel couplers!

Excellent haul for $200! The Lionel 2055, 2035 and 1666 are in good shape and very good pullers ---- you will get them to run perfectly. The Lionel blue flat car is for a submarine load. I believe the Lionel Long Island dummy unit has a horn in it (1974). The Marx engines/tinplate cars and accessories are in good shape also. I believe KMT (Kris Model Trains) is 3 rail and will connect to Lionel cars. I also do not know anything about 2 rail O gauge, but some of the cars are quite nice----- maybe can convert to 3 rail? Best regards.

One thing I akways liked about the Marx passenger cars was the full color passenger window strips, not just shadows.

Nice find at a good price. This was an uncatalogued set Lionel made available to budget retailers at a price point meant to compete against Marx. Only available a couple of years.
@leverettrailfan54148 ай бұрын
Fun stuff, too bad there wasn't a tender for the 2055. those parts for that 2-rail chassis look like they might match a diecast shell for an EMD switcher I have. Been looking for a mechanism to put in it but haven't had one come my way for the right price yet. The 'budd car' looks to be a nice model of an electric interurban car... very jealous of that. I think Bowser made the same style car in HO as a diecast model, but I don't know who would have made this one. It might have been built from scratch or from a kit. If either is available, I'd be interested to know what the asking price was. Btw, that Rivarossi diesel is a Fairbanks Morse 'C-Liner'. AHM sold them in the 70s and/or 80s iirc, powered and dummy. I believe the powered units only had one motor, and they weren't super strong. They also sold a "casey jones" 4-6-0 and tender, and an Indiana Harbor Belt 0-8-0 and tender. Both were sold as un-powered kits, but you could purchase a seperate kit to turn them into motorized models. I believe the stock motors weren't the best for heavy hauling on those either. The motorization kits for the steamers tend to command a premium on eBay, they come up much less often than the locomotives themselves. I have a set of C-Liners I bought at a show, somebody chopped up the frames, reinforced them with some sheet brass, and replaced the Rivarossi guts with some Lionel horizontal F-3 trucks in front and 6 wheel Lionel MPC SD trucks in back, to make them look like the passenger version of the FM C-Liner. They had also been converted to can motors, directional lighting, and been configured to run in tandem. The price was right, so I picked em up.
Marx guy here, I love junk boxes, you done real well for two bills.

If you want to trade or sell the 2 rail trains, a good place to go in New England, if you live in that part of the country, is Norms O Scale trains. It is located in the town of Casco in the state of Maine. There are very good people who specialize in 2 rail O scale but also sell a lot of 3 rail O scale with a mixture of other scals. They are only open on Fridays, though, but it is well worth the visit if you are in the area. They are willing to do trades as well, so you could unload the 2 rail trains for some 3 rail trains.

I've got the Lionel 1055 "Texas Special" F-3 that has no E-unit and only runs forward. I taped a piece of cardboard under the lever slot and used super glue & baking soda and filled up the reverse lever slot. Then repainted after sanding. Came out looking pretty good. I also ended up with about 6 Conoco tank cars that took apart and repainted the frames. Cheers from eastern TN

The real Texas Special was a passenger train operated by the Frisco (SLSF) and Katy (MKT) between St. Louis and Texas. Both RR's bought equipment for it--your Alco FA approximates Katy's six-axle Alco PAs. 15:20: "Side panels" = Truck frames.

Those Airex cars also came in red and in a rare off color of the blue. Lionel was an Airex stockholder and, as I understand it, the fishing reals were a nice complement to the train line in hardware stores.
