Andy Griffith made one of the best movies of the 50s, A Face in the Crowd. Did he create The Andy Griffith Show to counter the image of rural America depicted in that film?
@CortHowell19 сағат бұрын
Despite it taking place in present day 1960s, The Andy Griffith Show was meant to feel like the 1930s era he grew up in.

It was a great, wholesome, OLD FASHIONED, family values kinda show. I remember laying in front of the TV watching Andy, Barney and Gomer and learning a plethora of cuss words. A real solid foundation for a successful life.

I am 62 now I still enjoy watching all of the episodes with Don Knotts…to me, ‘he’ was the show. Watching episodes now I think there were some (episodes) that had smoking depicted. Even Thelma Lou smoked as is witnessed in this video! As prevalent as cigarettes were in Hollywood, advertising, music, etc., RJ Reynolds’s actually should have been credited in everything that radio, cinema and later television did. Just throw the tobacco lobbyists, chemists (adding the poison to the tobacco), CEO’s, etc., on both opening and closing credits!

I watch these reruns over and over. I still bust out laughing! My small group at church did a Bible Study based on some of the episodes. Mr. Darling was one of my favorites! “More power to ya’.” It really was genius! These actors were tremendously gifted!

When they shot the opening sceen where Opie threw the rock into the water, Opie always came short of the water, so in the final shot Opie threw the rock but the rock you see hit the water was thrown by the producer

It was just a good wholesome old fashioned old school show. No violence. Racism. Cussing. Just a good ole show. Grew up watching it and have been to the fictional show town of Mount Airy NC. Or Mayberry as it's sometimes s called.....

My Dad ( who looked just like Andy and walked like him- same mannerisms) always had this show on with reruns when he got older and we all loved the show. Since Dad died in 2020 at 90 yrs old I can not bring myself to watch it. I will one day soon, when I am ready for a good cry.

Me too. That one is in my "comfort TV" line up. Cheers, Frasier, Seinfeld etc etc. Shows you can watch without having to think a lot about a plot or characters dialogue. I've seen every episode AT LEAST 20 times (the originals, not "Andy Of Mayberry") and still counting. Once there was no more Barney, it fizzled IMO.

Thank you for sharing this! I’m 47, and have been watching this show since I can remember. My grandparents watched it, and my dad and I watched it together. My mom wasn’t a fan.😁 Now, my son and I watch it almost daily. It’s such a magical thing about it, you can watch every episode so many times and it’s still so amazing. You can kick back after a long stressful day, and the cares just melt away as you take a trip to the small town of Mayberry.

Ron Howard grew up watching Andy cheat on his wife with almost all his tv girl friends behind the scenes and his father was part of that bullshit. They are all rich perverts but perverts non the less.
