Most of the video was shot with a Go-Pro 10 while the telephoto animal photography was shot on a Canon EOS M50. The M50 and iPhone 13Pro were used for standard photos and limited video.

The owners manual says specifically not to use these tow bars for towing. They are to be used for recovery towing out of mud sand. I recently bought the correct base plates and when I put them on, I noticed there was only three bolts holding each one on. And the bolts were grade 5 I could see now why it would be an issue just a heads up.
@whidbeyben28 күн бұрын
Although it says "Note: Do not use recovery hooks to recreationally tow your vehicle" on page 294, they probably mean not to use them without other equipment such as a tow bar and may be assuming a vehicle equipped with the standard "Capable" bumper. The optional heavy duty steel modular bumper, with the tow bar adapter described in this video creates as beefy a connection to the vehicle frame as other bolt on base plates. The recovery hooks on the standard "capable" bumper is certainly not up to the task of recreational towing. If your Bronco has a factory bumper that is not the optional heavy duty steel modular bumper, you do need a dedicated base plate. IMHO recovering a vehicle out of sand or mud puts way more stress on a recovery point than recreational towing in most situations.
@TonyBenigno-j9j25 күн бұрын
@ I have the same bumper as you. The other thing you’re not considering is the safety cable that comes with the new tow plates that are a fail safe when all else fails. It wraps around the cross member. The new plates also add another bolt that runs through the frame so a total of 4 now. And the extra one has shear strength instead of just the 3 heads holding it on. I’m all for not spending money for no reason but I don’t want to kill somebody accidentally cause I was cheap and found LIABLE.
@whidbeyben25 күн бұрын
There’s more than one way to skin a cat. A dedicated baseplate is the best option for Broncos that don’t have the heavy duty modular steel bumper. And there’s no reason not to use one even with the modular steel bumper, other than additional weight and labor. Some of the base plates on the market were developed before the HD modular steel bumper rolled off the production lines. I had actually planned on getting one when I ordered my Bronco in 2021, but mine didn’t get delivered until 2024. This solution came out after the modular steel bumpers were on the road for some time and manufacturers had more time to test solutions. As for liability, the manufacturers of these products are on the hook when they market products for specific applications. I have flat towed my Bronco over a thousand miles without a problem and there is no sign of damage or wear in any of the towbar components.

A pick and gloves? Really?
@whidbeyben2 ай бұрын
If I'm just eating a fresh crab directly, I'll skip the gloves and pick and use the leg tips for picks, but crab is very delicate for putting up frozen. Any contamination will cause it to spoil a lot faster. So if picking meat to put up for future use, I recommend gloves. The pick is still optional, but for video instruction purposes, it shows the anatomy more clearly.

I'm pretty sure you meant 35" tires not 33" tires @0:23
@whidbeyben56752 ай бұрын
Yes. There is confusion because the 315/70R17 tires actually measure 34.4" unmounted at 40psi but when loaded and aired down to 15psi trailside, they are closer to 33" top to bottom, but are marketed widely as 35", rounding up aired up to 40psi and measuring side to side. But when bragging about the size of your tires, always state the biggest number!

O'Reilly scan: Spark plug A or B of cylinder 2 or ECI Ignition module right bank of cylinder (N 92/1) its describe it as ECI, is that correct? Please advise.
@whidbeyben2 ай бұрын
The code you describe sounds like it relates to the Engine Control module or Ignition Control Module. It may be suggesting replacing a spark plug. This video relates to the Electronic Ignition Switch module which senses the presence of a key and authenticates it with the vehicle's anti-theft system to lock the ignition and transmission. If you have a Sprinter chassis with this particular module still attached unshielded on the side wall, you should strongly consider the modifications demonstrated in this video to prevent getting stranded.

Our trip is in 2025 for the same ship. Just to clarfiy, the waterproof pants are provided by Viking? Is it insulated. Do you recommend base layers?
@whidbeyben56753 ай бұрын
When we went, Viking fitted each passenger with very nice Helly Hansen waterproof Gortex pants and insulated excursion boots. You will receive detailed packing recommendations from Viking. As the weather can be quite variable, you want to pack layers including light and medium weight base layers, and pants to wear under the Gortex pants. Depending on how you wish to layer, these could be comfortable fleece lined or unlined trekking pants. Synthetics or wool will be more comfortable than cotton if they get wet. They did have up to 2XL on hand. We also were fitted with a Viking Parka and puffy inner insulating jacket which were ours to keep. We were sad to have to return the pants and boots, but they would have taken up another suit case anyways.

I don’t know if software other than FDRS can do this. It may depend on your comfort level with coding. These cars are so complex that transposing a digit could really mess up some entirely unrelated vehicle function. The good news is that for most users, the programming is probably unnecessary unless pulling a heavy trailer.

Thank you Whidbeyben, We are currently looking at January 2026 sailings. I see some amazing deals which include RT airfare for 2025 sailings but we have an Alaska cruise already booked. Wondering how far ahead did you book your sailing? It’s risky to wait but could potentially save between $3000.00 to $5000.00 per person if current prices hold. Thanks for the reply to the comments I left on part 2 of this series yesterday.
@whidbeyben3 ай бұрын
We booked a full year in advance because we wanted to do a Christmas cruise with our adult children and those always sell out shortly after bookings are opened. If you are flexible you could wait but the Viking Antarctica cruises were selling out months before departure. There are now more ships and companies doing these Antarctica expedition trips so there is more competition. If you can save some money that would be great because these are expensive trips, but we recently did a Rocky Mountaineer train trip that made Viking Antarctica an absolute bargain for cost per day. Good luck and Enjoy. I am actually on the Viking Orion looking out at the Ketchikan waterfront as I am typing this response. You will love Alaska too!

@@whidbeyben I booked the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary/Raptor Center/Eagle Creek/Sawmill Ketchikan shore excursions yesterday. My estimate for the Antarctica expedition for my wife and I sailing 12/17-12/29 2025 (13 days including round trip airfare, 1 night pre-cruise in Buenos Aires, and travel insurance @ $29,386.00) does this sound about right?
@whidbeyben56753 ай бұрын

My wife and I are in our early 60’s and we are considering an expedition on board either the Polaris or Octantis in 2026 and we don’t have a clue about doing anything like this. We only know that this wonderful and amazing part of our world is one of the few of its kind left and we want to respectfully experience its majestic scenery and wildlife while we are still physically able. We don’t do any social media so videos like yours really help to give people like us a window into the entire process that will make up this once in a lifetime experience. If you have any recommendations on other resources that we might find helpful as we continue to explore whether this is right for us, please reply with them. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and for sharing your adventure with us.
@whidbeyben3 ай бұрын
That is wonderful you are considering this adventure. There are tons of other KZbin videos on this particular subject, but you really just have to decide to make it a priority. You won't regret it. While this is a very expensive undertaking, in retrospect, we felt that Viking Expeditions offered an excellent value for the money. Beware, as noted in the video, that the journey to get into position from North America during the dead of winter to South America can be difficult and stressful. If you have the opportunity to book a pre cruise extension in Buenos Aires, I would heartily recommend it. We barely made it and our daughter and her fiancé had quite the unscheduled adventure getting to the ship. Buenos Aires is an exciting and fun place to spend a few days, and if you end up having flights cancelled or diverted due to weather, you'll just miss a day in Buenos Aires instead of missing out on the entire cruise. I imagine within a few years, authorities will start cracking down on Antarctic cruises because so many ships are now taking huge numbers of people down there, so don't wait too long. Also be aware that Antarctica herself will set the conditions on what and where you may be permitted to go and see. She's a very wild and unpredictable master. People who have a high sense of entitlement will be disappointed that it isn't a guaranteed Disney experience. Schedules are idealized guidelines but the Captains and crews must constantly adjust to the weather, seas and ice flows. We were very grateful for what we were able to experience in this incredible and wild place that is truly unlike anything else on this planet.

This is by far the best, most helpful, how-to video I have seen. He is easy to understand, gives clear descriptions of what he's doing, does not go into endless, useless, explanations, and gives viable work-arounds for procedures that the dealership probably has a special tool to use. The charges the local shops quoted were so high, that I had resigned myself to buying a new mower if I was unable to do the work myself. You saved me around $500. Took me two days to do what you did in a half-hour video, but that includes going after the belt and an M14 bolt. At that, I think I made pretty good wages. I can't thank you enough!

This was a great video. The balboa pump in my spa is $1100 so I want to repair the old unit for a hot spare. The one question I have is why didn’t you replace both front and rear bearings since you had it apart?
@whidbeyben56754 ай бұрын
I’ve only ever had the front bearings fail due to gradual failure of the front pump seal with water leakage into the bearings, but the labor is certainly more expensive than the bearings, so replacing both in an older pump isn’t a bad idea.
