`Hey, Fight Films Guy! I emailed you a couple of years ago. I'd love to interview you just in relation to boxing history and these historic films you 've restored have been absolute gems. If interested, it would be great. My email is on my profile here on KZbin. Either way, take care and cheers!

Not sure this is actually Gunboat Smith. But there is a website by a company called BFI that claims, if you live in Europe you can view the Carpentier vs Gunboat Smith fight? Anybody overseas actually viewed this supposedly lost film? Check out BFI on line,

Lived in Santa Clarita, CA, back in the 60/70's. Jerry and his brother Mike would often train up at 'The Oaks' on Bouquet Canyon road which was and remains a popular winding road used by auto and motorcycle enthusiasts alike. Whenever I'd see more than the usual amount of parked cars, I knew one of the Quarry's was more than likely there. Out back there was a heavy as well as a speedbag, also a ring, and various equipment one would expect to see at a gym. Jerry in particular was such a genuinely nice guy. He'd often come out to the dining area and mingle after training sessions. I had been there so often back then he knew me by name and would invite me to come out back and watch If I'd like. I always did, often with a date or a friend in tow. We would marvel in disbelief at the sheer power of the punches he delivered on bags and sparring victims alike. His double left hooks were beautiful to witness and the sound of the impact made when connecting are something I remember vividly to this day. You'd swear he could kill a bear.

Before anyone criticizes the fighters comparing them to modern ones, remember that this one was scheduled for 45 rounds. You have to save your energy in case it lasts that long. No unnecessary moving around the ring. You also don't want to punch yourself out too early. Few long jabs that can tire one out. Etc. Etc. You had to be prepared to change your strategy to fight a 45 rounder.

Sadly the unnecessary distractions on the screen make it unwatchable.

Totally different style to today, more a toughness and stamina contest. They had to conserve stamina due to the potential length of the fight. Lots of wrestling and hitting inside whilst holding or being held.

If I were in Quarry's corner, I would have stopped it at least 1 round earlier. Quarry was a punching bag.

Poor Quarry. He had the heart and stamina of a Rocky Marciano. He could take a punch but the cuts and beating were brutal. And Frazier was a warrior he could take a bruising and deliver it. Ali sure found out.

Rocky Marciano was a fab fighter . He was a gentleman full of class and dignity. There is a fab boxing movie about fight fixing in the 1950s called , the harder they fall. It’s stars Humphrey Bogart Rod Steiger jersey Joe Walcott and max Baer. It’s a knockout and 100% worth checking out?

I needed a George Dixon card to finish my 1910 T220 set. It's a gorgeous set of cards. If anyone collects vintage trading cards, these are wonderful. I never expected to find this clip. Amazing....

Charles did what the hard hitting bob saterfield couldn’t, knockout Rex Layne. Charles with a perfect cross on a Layne whose hands are way too low for too long (just like in the satterfield fight). Though bob was more a left hook artist…

best heavy weight fight and demolition display from dempsey i ever seen, and i seen just about all his fights - many suggest his fight with jess Willard as the most dangerous Dempsey ever, i absolutely believe it was this dempsey who fought Firpo as his prime!!! his technique was so good, his knockdowns of Firpo had the illusion of not much effort - this against a bonified beast in Firpo who def was either in his prime or a tic or 2 away... which makes this all the more insane, i am surprised more people in the boxing world haven't pointed this out as far as i know.

Thks for the effort that went into this . Here goes Wills had a long career of course , past his prime in these bouts no doubt . Dempsey to me was past his prime also , but not as bad as Harry Wills . I'll take the Mauler during this time frame but Sam Langford is a different story . On the level , handcuffs off give me Sam vs either one . Jack shure knew it and maybe Harry too. if all 3 in their prime .

Galento thumbed Nova early in the fight and almost lost his eye. Max Baer would TKO Galento in 7 closed both of Galento s eyes in 1940 yet Max Baer would lose twice to Lou Nova 1939 and Baers last fight in 1941. So Lou Nova is the only boxer to defeat Max Baer twice.
