Hi, just after some advice please! I have a mariner 40hp 6e9. It starts up but the pull cord is really hard to pull out sometimes and sometimes comes out smoothly? When it’s hard to pull it’s almost like it slips a bit then starts then slips a bit. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers
@MarineEngineServicing12 сағат бұрын
Hi, sounds like it could be the recoil starter, that’s where I would start. I believe it can be removed with a few bolts. Maybe needs some WD-40. When you say it slips it could be down to worn prawls which engage on the flywheel, these then retract when the engine is running / recoil is stopped. They fly out when the recoiler is pulled hard and should engage on the flywheel

is there a trick for getting the fuel to fill the filter again? I've been pumping the fuel bulb but can't get the filter to completely fill up while I have the motor on a hose and in idle.
@MarineEngineServicingАй бұрын
In my experience this is a normal thing, I’ve replaced many filter like this over the years and have the same. I even have an old car that has the same filter and that is never “full” & runs all the through the rev range on load. As long as you have no leaks I.e air or fuel then you should be fine. You’ll see the filter running with fuel when the engines running and the fuel pump is “on”

some grease on the impeller key and shaft where the impeller sits goes a long way in preventing the impeller from getting seized to the housing. the o ring im sure popped off as you tried to put the impeller into the housing when turning, hence not showing that part. to prevent this, put some 847 permatex under the o ring groove all around let it dry for 10 minutes. a quick smear of grease will help to seal it. to prime the pump making it more efficient, turn the impeller counter clockwise 1/8-1/4 turn while pulling UP on the driveshaft. improves efficiency.

Thank you for this video. I’m about to attempt replacing the fuel tank sender unit on my Mk3 GT6. It looks very similar however the fuel tank is in a different position, under the boot floor and the sending unit sits at the top of the tank. One of the connectors of the two electrical wires has snapped off. I also found that even with a full tank, my fuel gauge only showed 3/4s full. So I suspect some fuel has leaked into the little plastic float which is weighing it down. I’ll let you know how it goes! Thank you again for the very clear instructions!
