Great Video! Brought back good memories. I grew up in Sarasota and the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s were my railfanning years. I witnessed the last run of the Sarasota Switcher under CSX and the first week of SGLR operations. Looks like that little railroad has grown up some.

Yes they have, that’s cool to hear. What were the operations like in Sarasota for CSX? Where’d they start/end their days?

Two locals worked out of Bradenton in the 70’s and early 80’s. One would work customers south of Fruitville Road to Venice and the other would work customers on the former ACL truncated at Whitfield Road after the SAL/ACL merger. The freight depot stood on Fruitville Road across the street from the passenger depot and the REA building was across the street to the north of the passenger depot. The crews would often interchange cars in the small yard that was located between Fruitville Road and 8th Street, all gone now unfortunately, but SGLR still uses the former ACL coach yard at the wye for trans loading. Everything started going downhill with the completion of interstate 75 and trucks began delivering more. I live in Georgia now and while CSX, NS and Amtrak run through the city I miss local railroading and the friendly slower pace. Keep making your videos, your doing a great job!

The reason why a few trains get an EC-1 to go over Massachusetts Ave when those gates failed was because the failure would not appear on their train orders as it was just reported. If there was a train that would be heading down the carters sub and went on duty between P091 reporting it and signals dept. fixing it, they would automatically get that EC-1 line 6A as a Dispatcher bulletin. We also have to blow the standard crossing horn sequence for any activation failure or False/Partial Activation, even in quiet zones. (Much to the annoyances of the local Karens lol) EC-1's are a versatile form as a dispatcher can give me track authority, Speed restrictions, Dispatcher Bulletin annulments, or other instructions using one kind of form instead of me having to have 3-4 different books of forms for different kinds of messages.

Enjoyed seeing someone capture the Seminole Gulf. I know it's not as busy as the sexier lines around the Tampa area, but I've been wanting to see either you or Kotabeaner or Danny Harmon do a video on this line. The Punta Gorda depot recognizes the horrible Jim Crow era by maintaining the signs "WHITE" and "COLORED" above 2 exterior doors on its north side. It angered me to see it when I first moved to the area, but it also reminded me of how far we've come since then, and then angered me again to be reminded that some politicians are still trying to divide us by race (and other categories) so they can get votes. Also, I highly recommend the Murder Mystery Train out of Fort Myers. Been on it twice now with my wife. Excellent food, and entertaining mysteries played out car by car.

Excellent coverage there Christian. Ian’s impact not only washed out the Caloosahatchee bridge, but also the Peace River bridge north of Arcadia. Before Ian they wisely positioned some power in the Arcadia yard. However the yard flooded so they had to replace the traction motors on the locomotives. The row south of Arcadia also had numerous washouts between Arcadia and Punta Gorda. Great shots of the beautiful Punta Gorda depot. On August 15 the full route of the Murder Mystery Dinner Train resumed traveling north to Tuckers Grade. Perhaps I missed it but those gondolas are loaded with rip rap being used to rebuild the Sanibel Island causeway. The CSX symbols for the connection to the Seminole Gulf at Arcadia are L 850 north (tues, fri) and L 851 south (mon, thurs) to/from Mulberry

Thanks for talking us to Chicagoland. You’re always full of facts in Florida and Georgia which I appreciate being a new-bee to CSX territory. Please allow me to amplify and correct some of your statements. BNSF triple-track mainline (BNSF Chicago Sub)is important to BNSF freight operations but the former ATSF Chillicothe Sub carries far more tonnage in/out of Chicagoland. The Chicago Sub handles traffic to/from the Pacific Northwest, Galesburg classification, unit trains (coal, crude oil, ethanol, grain) Also 8 Amtrak trains per day.BNSF train symbols: the eb manifest was either H GALBRC or H NTWBRC (Galesburg or Northtown to the Belt Railway clearing yard)(not to Cicero). Based on the time of day, eb intermodal was Z SSE CHC(South Seattle-Chicago Cicero. The wb intermodal was Z CHCSSE (Chicago Cicero-South Seattle). There are no container ports for ocean-going ships on Lake Michigan. The Sioux Locks are too small to handle container ships. If you return to Chicago and want to watch trains safely, in the downtown area, the Roosevelt Road overpass just south of Union Station is a great spot.

Weeds or flowers? Well, the difference is mainly where they're growing. Whenever a plant is growing where someone doesn't want them, they magically turn into weeds. That's pretty well all there is to it. Even dandelions are flowers, they aren't liked because they proliferate with such ease, and end up growing where people don't want them to. BTW, i like your production quality. You have a knack for this.
