Great adventure, driver got great skills to maneuver those muddy sections. Camera man well done, best capture of those moments.

Its all about what you have gotten used to! When the norm is high 80s-low 90s and you don't get a winter break, your body acclimates. Then when it drops down to 75, we get cold, lol

How exciting it is moving into your new house! It was the same as we built our house in Chiapas, moving out of the woodshed into our house as we continued building. I really love the color and grain patterns of rosewood and the other hardwoods in your home. I'm sure you'll discover many new changes when you return from your whirlwind trip!

Yes, I'm sure I will! And yes, it is beautiful wood. We are certainly blessed that the kinds of wood available here are so beautiful. Yes, you would definitely understand the wonderful feeling of coming home, in spite of the continuing projects still needing to be done. We are so thankful to finally be able to move in!

Easier to replace the truck than the lives in it. But yes, we are definitely grateful that the truck was not damaged in any way. We are praising God for looking out for the lives as well as the property!

Come to find out, steamed bread is actually a common way to bake bread. I looked it up online when I got out to town. I had never heard of it before and so I wasn't sure it would work. But thankfully it did :)

Getting closer - how exciting! Do the corrugated galvanized iron sheets make a lot of noise as the sun and clouds change positions? The ones on our buildings in Mexico always made popping and tapping contracting sounds as they heated or got cooler. How will you keep the critters out from the corrugated ends?
@lastfrontierpng9 ай бұрын
I haven't noticed the noises . . . we don't have a wide range of temperatures, but we also aren't living in it yet so we aren't there when it does cool down a little. Dad is using a foam that he can squirt into all the crevices. It starts out a bit soft but hardens up quickly. It will get squirted in any area that has cracks or crevices that provide access to the outside. We are certainly getting very excited as it gets closer to being done. Obviously, there is still a lot of work to do! But maybe in a couple of months we will be able to move in . . .

It's great to see the progress, and as a builder, I love to pause the video and study the details of the progress in each area. The lumber is beautiful, and everything looks so solid. That wood is HARD! I know you appreciate all the machines and tools you took with you - it is fun having the right equipment for the job.
@lastfrontierpng10 ай бұрын
We are so thankful every day for the progress also! Its exciting to finally be ready to put the siding on. We will probably stay in town for the weekend, then head home to Tipas on Sunday and get back to work on Monday :) It might only be a few weeks until its all closed in and buttoned up so mosquitos can't get in. We just might move in at that point even though we won't have plumbing and electrical yet. We've been living without that already, so no big deal right?

All you guys ...
@lastfrontierpng10 ай бұрын
It was definitely a team effort, but yes we did mill all the lumber ourselves. There was a team of local boys that learned the operation of the sawmill and did most of the actual milling. Then Dad and I did the planing, cutting, and tongue and groove. It was a lot of hard work!

Wow, the children sing well, especially if they are shy and still learning the songs! We used to hike or drive to distant villages in Chiapas and have Sabbath School programs for the children, and they loved it! So many memories! Here's the only video I made of one of those visits, back in 1975. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2fImYidf9R0g8k

So much fun! I enjoyed watching yours too :) These children are definitely learning to sing more. They still don't sing much during the main church service, but some of them are starting to. We can see their mouths moving, anyhow, even if we can't hear them yet. We heard one story about one of the boys. He was apparently singing one of the songs we taught him while he was at home. His father told him to stop singing. The boy responded by saying "You should come to church too, or I will shoot you." He was holding a small bow and arrow at the time, lol.

It is fun to find ways to be a kid every now and again. The people just laugh at me, lol, but I don't care! I'm just the crazy white girl that does the work of a man helping my Dad at the worksite. They comment about that all the time, lol.
@AdamsAmigos Жыл бұрын
Your progress videos are always so much fun to watch. We appreciate the descriptions of WHAT is being done, and HOW some things are done, like those long nails to hold the rafters together. Your way of doing everything probably seems so foreign to the natives, yet they pitch right in and help when needed. It will be much better when the roofs are on, making it easier to work inside during rains or on hot sunny days.
@lastfrontierpng Жыл бұрын
Yes, the people come down all the time to just look at the building and watch Dad and I work, lol. They just shake their head and wonder at the knowledge of the white man, lol. The roof going on will definitely make the work easier. It will also protect the flooring from direct sunlight which will help to keep the boards from warping. This is the main reason for waiting to put the flooring down until the roof is on. We are praying that God will straighten out the situation with the roofing soon so that it can be delivered.

I suspect that dozens of banana varieties grow in PNG. I can relate to your delicious cold banana custard dessert bites!
@lastfrontierpng Жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely a bunch of different varieties! Many of them are only good when cooked. Dad doesn't care for any of those, so we typically don't have them (besides, those are mostly best when fried and that isn't the healthiest of options, lol). But the fresh bananas for eating also have many varieties and we are already figuring out our favorites :)
